Nexus 7 LTE?

I beleive this is correct.

I need to move the SIM from the Xoom to the Nexus because I already have a Xoom on there under contract for a few more months.

Just make sure it's the right size. The Nexus 7 will take a micro sim, so if you have a standard you will need to cut it down to size.

If I go to VZW store, I can just go in and ask to get a Micro SIM card activated, no questions asked? Do the really care what I am using?

Activating a SIM card usually requires providing the IMEI of the device so that they can check it against the blacklisted data base to make sure you're not activating a stolen device. However, they may also use this to discover that it's not a device in their system and they've only ever activated devices in their system in the past. Hence why an earlier poster noted that the rep didn't know if the device would work or not.

Yup, the Xoom doesn't have a micro Sim, has the next size up, that's why I need to cannibalize the one from my old Razr.

N7 comes tomorrow so I'll circle back with results.

I am interested in what you guys find...

Me too. Mine hasn't shipped yet so I have time to cancel it if you guys get horrible results. From the video posted earlier, it looks like it should be fine. I have a SIM card from my old S3 that's still active and I plan to use. I talked to Verizon and they said there's no way that SIM will work with any other device than the S3 it was associated with. Which is false because I regularly plug it into all kinds of stuff and it always works right away. BUT...we'll see.

While in the VZW Corp store today to have my DNA looked at, I inquired about using the Nexus 7. It appears that nobody knows what will really happen. They said they would try to get it registered on the network and if it works, great. if not, I would have to activate some other 4G device and transfer the card. The problem with this is it could require both Data and Phone monthly charges.

Spirk, is your S3 card billed for both voice and data?

Is it possible to have a smart phone activated with Data only for $10/month on the share plan?

My rule of thumb is never trust what Verizon employees say because most of them are clueless. Sometimes you get a sharp one, but most are only there because it's a job. But you should be good to go since the S3 takes a micro sim and it's active. I'm just hoping my T-Mobile prepaid SIM works. Unlimited data throttled after 5GB for 30 dollars is pretty sweet, though not as sweet as some of you still with Verizon unlimited plans that you plan to stick your Nexus tab on. :p

Yep. It is unchanged since I got my S4 and asked to change my number to a local number. The dude at Verizon misunderstood and made a completely new number for my S4. I figured it out 5 minutes later and told them. The response was that I'd have to pay hundreds to change it now that I accepted the new number. That anger is for another forum though.

I'm no expert but I highly doubt it.

Exactly. It's gotten to the point where we place bets on whether we'll know more than the employee that gets assigned to us when we walk in to the store. I can usually stump at least 3 people before getting someone that knows what they're talking about.

Loving this awesome tablet!!

T-Mobile cellular is okay... I've yet to see full LTE bar reception since getting it yesterday in the afternoon. It goes to 3G or HSPA(?) most of the time and it's acutally faster than my Galaxy S3 using 4G reception! As soon as the month of the free trial 2G is used up, I'm switching over to AT&T's LTE plan. No complaints really but I believe that T-Mobile's LTE coverages isn't as good or as fast at AT&T's.

Haven't had any issues yet since I haven't tested out the GPS or mapping software and the touch controls feel smooth as it should be. I really wished Google would provide a larger storage capacity or the option to use MicroSD cards but for the price and the features, it's a great tablet.

Received the N7 LTE this evening.

Called Verizon and told them I was putting a different SIM in my XOOM.

She did not ask for MEID, probably because they see it on the account. I gave her SIM number from the card i pulled out of my old razr.

She told me to put SIM in my XOOM and turn it on.

I put SIM in N7 and turned it on and LTE popped right in and she saw on the network.

LTE works great and the screen is much better than the previous version.

For those of you who aren't swapping devices I guess this doesn't help much other than to validate that the N7Lte does indeed work on verizon.

Note - the N7 doesn't have a 3g radio so you can only get LTE but since its basically everywhere, should not be an issue.

Enjoy!

Pun intended. When I went to check my account info it now shows my tablet line as a Razr phone. So I called the idiots back.

CSR insisted that the N7 isn't supported and won't work on the Verizon network. And yet I was using it while I was talking to her.

Gave her the IME # and she said its not in a format accepted by their system.

She said that it was billing at the $10/month so I shouldn't worry about it.

Who wants to bet they'll hit me for more next month?

I hate Verizon. I really do. They could not be harder to deal with.

Let me know how you guys make out and if there are magic words I need to utter to make them help.

Hopefully not.. VZW pissesnme off at times, but it is the best service in many areas still. I have not pulled the trigger yet, but thinking it might be the way for me to go. I prefer surfing and stuff on my tablet over my RAZR MAXX, partly because the maxx is laggy.. I am due for a new phone too

So if we do not have an existing Data only device in the system we are SOL?

What if I take the SIM out of my DNA and have it put into my N7 and tell them to update it. And then get a new SIM for my DNA.

Would that work? The VZW store said they would try to activate it for me.

So far, that's looking like the case. It's what I expected :(

If I were to transfer my DNA SIM to the N7 and have my Mobile # forwarded to a Google Voice #, would that essentially allow me to ditch my phone for the N7 and a headset?Any downside besides having to use the N7 everywhere I go?

Found this interesting article which may help (but do not quote me on this)
Update: Straight Talk's Bring Your Own Verizon Phone Site is Now Working | Prepaid Phone News

What I found interesting is this.... and not sure it is relevant for this situation

"Ot looks like the site only accepts decimal MEIDs. When I entered the Pixi's hexcidecmal MEID I got an error "We cannot process you transaction at this time with the information you provided." with the MEID field highlighted in red. I converted the hexidecimal MEID into decimal using the converter at checkesnfree.com and it was accepted. Decimal MEIDs are 18 or 19 digits long and contain only numbers. Hexidecimal MEIDs are 14 or 15 characters long and contain both letters and numbers."

No worries. I still am debating the new nexus. I want one but not sure what to do with the old one.. I could sell it or let the kids share it even though they not have iPods.

I am thinking having the network option on the 7 will be quite handy

I think this has something do with the differences between Verizon 3G only phones and phones that have LTE. Their program supports 3G only phones, which are the ones with only decimal MEID's.

I'm kind of in a similar predicament.

So where is the MEID located? I think I may just order the new tablet, there are some time when it will come in handy I think

The MEID (for CDMA devices) or IMEI (for GSM devices) is located in two places. There's a physical copy generally on a sticker on the box the device comes in (along with the serial number), and it's programmed into the device that you can find by going into device settings -> about phone/tablet -> status.

Okay,

Finally broke down and ordered the LTE version Today.. looking forward to having the ability to use it when WiFi is not avail.. Looking forward to getting it

Copy/Paste from my posts on another forum

I just got off the phone with Felicia from Verizon Wireless customer service. It was like talking to a child. We went in circles for almost an hour. She would tell me I didn't know where to find the device ID and I would tell her it didn't have one, only an IMEI, she said impossible, I insisted it wasn't, etc etc etc over and over again. She became angry VERY quickly and decided to try to push my buttons. I'm glad the recording heard her yell "I don't care if it's illegal!". That's going to make it very easy when the FCC catches wind of this. 47 minutes into the call, she hit mute on her end and waited for me to ask if she was there. When she came back I heard people chuckling in the background so I'm sure she wasn't consulting with someone more knowledgeable. WHICH would have been anyone in the building. These people are clearly trained, or at least encouraged, to frustrate customers until they give up. No problem. I have all day. Round 2.

(An hour later)

SUCCESS! I hope.

I did more research after hanging up with Felicia and I came across Verizon's DMD - Device Management Database. If a phone is not in the DMD, an "add device request" is filled out by the rep and the new device, with it's IMEI, is listed under the customer's account. I called tech support at 866-221-4096. After entering the personal info it required, I selected option 6 for 'Tablets'. Someone was on the line not 5 seconds later. His name was Bobby and he is by far the best customer service rep I've ever spoke with in my experience with 4 different wireless providers. We talked all about the tablet and why it wasn't supported by Verizon. He agreed that the FCC 700 MHz open access regulations required Verizon to enable my device since it had a 700 MHz antenna. I told him about the DMD and he put me on hold. He came back after speaking with an engineer and said the add device request was exactly what we needed to do.

After he submitted the request, he put in an order for a "naked" SIM card to be shipped to me overnight for free. When the SIM card arrives I am supposed to call Verizon customer service and reference the DMD request and it will be added to my account as a $10/month tablet. That's why I started with "I hope"; we all know everything can go horribly wrong between now and then. I currently have a 4G SIM card from my old S3 in my Nexus 7 and I get great service here in Colorado Springs. I'm paying the $140 for voice and data until the new SIM comes in and takes its place.

THE CATCH: Since the Nexus 7 2013 is not provisioned, and therefor not supported, by Verizon (YET), I will not be able to receive technical support from Verizon. I would have to call Google if something went wrong with the device. That's what I would do anyway since Verizon has absolutely no foothold in this device like they do in all the devices they sell from their stores/website.

There is a brand new SIM in the mail from Verizon. My Nexus 7 wasn't in their system but now there is an official add device request from Verizon to Verizon. I didn't have to buy a tablet, activate it, and return it just to get the $10/month tablet plan.

I'm going to call that a win.
