The only time my DX2 gets hot is when I use navigation extensively. I also usually play mp3's to my car stereo at the same time so It is getting double use on the processor. Other than that, I can run netflix, flash, etc and don't notice a heat issue. Also, my DX got hot under the same circumstances. Navigation seems to really tax the cpu. BTW - I just want to reiterate that my DX2 is running very nice since 2.3.4 OTA. I'll probably get the RAZR, but honestly am quite happy with my X2. Of note is that my X2 even while stock on froyo and early GB OTA's never had much for audio pops (a few but not bad), etc, but I can say there are zero audio issues and lag during swiping is basically gone since 2.3.4.

I've been debating between the phones and am currently leaning (heavily) toward the Razr. I've seen too many problems with the Charge locking up, battery overheating, GPS failures, poor radio etc. Most of these issues seem far too common on Samsung hardware. Moto is vastly superior for everything but screen tech and the Razr solves that (albeit at a lower resolution).
I'm naturally tempted by the GNex's screen but I'd rather have a great device than just a great screen. I'll also make use of the vastly better peripherals Moto offers.
Moto has confirmed ICS for the Razr (and Bionic) for early next year. I'm fine with that. I'm in no hurry to beta test ICS for Google. I'll actually make use of 70% of the Moto bloat anyway (some of those are very nice apps).
I'm not thrilled about the non-removable battery but that's less of an issue than not having an SD card slot! I already have a few external Duracell power packs and they work perfectly well for me without an actual battery swap. I expect the Razr will have vastly better battery life too (we'll see once released). I read somewhere (Moto's forum?) that you can hold power and a volume key or such to do a reset so battery pull is a non-issue.
I don't care that much about the camera so that's not a big deal. NFC is mostly useless as is a barometer. I'll get much better use out of a tough build, splash guard, battery life, and quality radios.
I'll wait until I can hold (and play) with both before I decide but those are my thoughts for what they're worth. To each their own!

Can any Bionic owners speak to this? My DX is a great mug warmer on GPS too. Does the Bionic melt a hole in the dash, or is it a better heat manager?
I wonder if the kevlar backing and everything else would help with any heat that would come from the phone?

It will probably help to not feel the heat coming from inside. But I'm not sure if it will also help with efficient heat dissipation. Seems like very tight space in it.
That's what I was thinking. I would hope moto figured something out so the battery doesn't drain like the htc thunderbolt's battery did otherwise they could have some huge backlash if battery life is really bad. I am waiting to decide what to get until battery info comes out for the razr.
Keep in mind kevlar and the Gorilla glass have about the same thermal coefficient, and both are very low. In English, both are excellent insulators. So, either Moto has a clever way to evenly spread the heat around and keep the guts cool while the glass and kevlar dispose of the heat very slowly. Or, there will be one spot on the Razr that will glow cherry red after 15 minutes of Stupid Zombies.

I highly doubt google would let that happen. If no bloat will be on it bing won't be either. Not to mention google is hardwired into vanilla android.

Don't worry, it won't. It's been confirmed already. It's a pure Google phone, no carrier bloat, unlocked bootloader, and Google does the updates themselves. The only major things I'm aware of that have not been confirmed in some official capacity are;
-storage (16/32GB or both available on Verizon?)
-price (leaked MAP is $299.99)
-date (leaked is 11/10)

I tend to agree with the article and have voiced this very opinion. Back in my DF days I said that as hardware/software progresses the NEED to flash custom ROMs will decline.

I agree, phones are fast enough now with enough memory that all you really need is root. There isn't the need there once was for a full custom ROM. There will always be those that want such control and for them there's no phone but the GNex.
However, as a professional software developer, I spend enough time with other folks' software. I just want a phone that works without me needing to spend my quality time futzing around with flashing ROMs!
I'm impressed with the latest Moto UI (Blur+?) and the apps Moto dropped on the Razr are actually truly useful. I can live with a locked boot loader though still wish it weren't. There just isn't a 'perfect' phone is there?!
