I thought the milestone was rooted and so was can the X. It is the bootloader that is locked and this means you cant put custom roms on, but it is still technically rooted.
 
The milestone does not have full root (let's not get into technicalities here). If you want to brush up on the possibility/progress of a Droid X root, check this out: http://androidforums.com/motorola-d...roid-x-encrypted-bootloader-efuse-thread.html Lot's of good info in there.

Personally, if I can't flash custom roms, I do not want it. Motorola lost me upon announcing they are locking the Droid X and Droid 2 down completely. Now, this may all change if a work around is found, but it's highly unlikely.
 
Last question, I have to get a new phone soon because of my 3 yr old phone keeps getting freezed, and I can get Inc today if I want. What do you think?

1. HTC Incredible that you can root easily
2. Moto Droid X that rooting seems impossible but 4.3 in large screen
3. Samsung Fascinate that you can root and best feature than others (at least for me), but you don't know when it'll come out

Should I just wait and wait and wait? If Inc is good, i will just go for it, but I heard Inc has many problems.

Just look at the Droid X press release compared to the Fascinate press release. The Verizon rep at the Fascinate release is an idiot that probably got sent there because his boss didn't want to go. Verizon could care less about the Fascinate and is more proud of the Droid X. That's what worries me about the Fascinate

Couldnt have said it better myself. Good analogy and both of those guys seem like morons. That VZW rep sounds like hes going off a brochure he read in preparation for this interview.
 
To keep this back on topic, I don't see Verizon announcing the Fascinate's availability until after the Droid X's release, as well as for some time after it. I think Verizon is looking to get people on board with the Droid X, then once the initial rush dies down, we will see an announcement for the Fascinate.

By the time you would receive your Incredible (delays all over the place), an announcement should be made about the Fascinate. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the new Incredibles being shipped with regular LCD screens now? It really is up to you. I have a droid, have been rooted, and am waiting for the Fascinate. It's a gamble. They are all good phones. It comes down to what you personally want to do with it. I am going for the Fascinate as Samsung does not lock the bootloader. Sounds to me like you need a new phone and want it now. I would wait and go to a store and see what phone feels good for you in hand. If you like the Droid X, do it up! It's not like you would be disappointed as it is a fantastic piece of hardware.

i think i should just go see how droid x looks like tmr and decide whether droid x or inc. personally i like droid x but rooting problem is holding me. at least if droid x has sense UI i would just go for it.

If you are trying to decide between the Droid X and the Incredible, I would definitely go for the Droid X hands down. Performance-wise, as well as build, the Droid X smokes the Incredible. Just because word on the street is that root has slim to no chance on the Droid X shouldn't stop you. Tons of devs are flocking to it and hopefully they can crack it. Also, you have a 30 day window to return it if you don't like it. I say go for the Droid X. If root really is an issue and you want custom roms, wait for the Fascinate. Makes sense. Plus more time for devs to get fed up with the Droid X and switch over to creating roms for Samsung fulltime. Win-win. My Droid can hold me over til then.

Get real. Win-win nothing. This blows. Period.

We know you want the unlocked bootloader (you have mentioned it a few times we think :rolleyes:), but more relevant in this SAMSUNG forum is that we can't get the phone we were looking forward to for a while. This really sucks ..
 
And the worst part of this is that it will STILL probably come out with 2.1 . If they have months until release, and 2.2 is available now, there is no reason why they can't launch with 2.2 so far from now. But I bet it will be 2.1. Man I am so mad at VZW now ...

I think when the Fascinate is released we will hear more concrete evidence of the Droid Pro and maybe the Galaxy S Pro.

If the rumors are true about those bad boys, I will be saving an upgrade for one of them. But that's always how it goes, get a phone and a new better stronger faster one comes out 31 days later (always seems to be right after the return period expires :p)

Very disappointing news if true. Especially given the recent info on the Droid X. I have to switch to Verizon soon and I don't have a phone I want :(

Agreed. I'm waiting on the Fascinate....Samsung supports open source. So i think I'll be with them for a while. More and more people are getting into the whole concept of "root." Yes it's very addictive, it's actually my "ahem" drug lol. Taking it away also bores me. Everyone's phone will be the same. Seeing a few tests about the Fascinate, I'm leaving Moto and going to Samsung. Comparing it to the iPhone 4 in a few vids, I can see it'll be a huge contender to it over the Droid X. Six-Axis feature and so on. It's definitely the phone to be recon with. 5 MegaPix camera is just as good as the iPhone 4, which is better than the Droid X's 8 MegaPix, and still can record 720p HD. Yep, it's definitely something I will get. It dirted the Nexus One in a GPU test by a looooonnnnnggggg shot lol. Yep, this is "the" phone. Will be getting it this fall....

They will need a phone for the fall because by the time thanksgiving/black friday and all the holidays roll around, all 3 droids are kind of old news...

I agree. If LTE... is I won't upgrade for a while. Since they're still supporting open source, and since a fall release seem to make more sense, ROMs and all that good stuff would follow. Can't wait. Right now Droid pissed me off with locking the bootloader....I was looking 4ward 2 the Droid X, til I heard that. Then I heard about the Fascinate....I'm sold already ....
