I was one of the many who became pissed off at the Hero lagginess, the dialer in particular! I rooted about a month ago, but even though I am a pc geek and don't hesitate to fry a PC, this is my phone we're talking about and I don't have the upgrade for a new one yet or the money to outright buy one. BUT I was chicken and just rooted the stock HTC Sense ROM thinking that maybe just being able to remove Amazon MP3, NASCAR, NFL and all the other bloatware, my problems would be over. NOT!
So I took the plunge Sunday morning and had no problems rooting to AOSP. I have Beautiful widgets and a cool almost HTC like home screen. I got my contacts and everything else setup. THis ROCKS! if you're lurking and pissed off at the general suckiness of your phone. Pay someone to root it for you! If you're in Memphis we can do it over (or once we're done) some beers! It doesn't take long and it is SO easy the stupid caveman can do it.
But it's not without some gotchas. Until 5 minutes ago I just had some minor questions...some I even had with Sense...just never bothered to ask anyone.
I have my comcast account and gmail accounts setup. Is there anyway in either app to 'mark all read.' Not a big deal, but that's always been an annoyance.
The main issue that just came up is the camera doesn't work. The app loaded everytime I tried it, but when I actually tried to take a pic using the softkey on the app screen, it froze and now it won't load. Not a big deal, but I figured someone has it fixed.
Also, is there a setting somewhere that tells apps to install on the SD card by default? Or can you make them move after install? I have the free version of titanium backup and I don't see how to. Unless it is this easy: Back up the app....remove the app...then restore the app but restore it to the SD card? If so, is there a certain folder /apps or something I need to put it on the SD card?
The only other thing I am seeing is more battery usage...maybe 10-15% per day. I have all the extra's off...bluetooth, wifi and gps. Is this mainly because of the overclocked cpu? It could also be I take it out and turn it on ever 5 minutes just to watch the dialer pop up instantly.
Highly recommended anyone root their phone. These minor annoyances are worth having a PHONE you can dial again!
Thanks Android forum!
