Root No Mobile Data

-Mike-

Android Enthusiast
after the fiasco with pac man rom, i now cant get a consistent mobile connection. I have tried updating prl and profile and i keep getting an error saying to contact customer service. i have had some apps update on their own. does my phone need to be provisioned again? do i have to call in to sprint? ive done the reboot/wipe cache/wipe dalvik.....

currently on Viper, s-off, 3.16

im really on the verge of 'losing' the phone and opting for a new one. :(

Try and flash a stock Rom, it can be a rooted stock one. Then try to update the PRL first , then update the data profile.

If that doesn't work, give customer service a call. Ask if they are working on the towers in your area, or if Network Vision is borking the network.

If not, tell them you've done the usual power cycle, hard reboot, factory reset and PRL and Profile updates right off the bat to get the ball rolling faster. Maybe a reprovision on their end will clear it up, unless they are working on the towers in your area.

Ok, I have had to call sprint 3 times now to re-provision my phone. I'm on viper, came from Pac man, s-off and running 3.16. Radios were updated with capt throwbacks last zip.

Is it iPhone time? LOL

wow. have you tried a stock rooted rom like Granite suggested?

might try carrying it in to sprint and let them test your radios. does it work on wifi?

I can't even imagine what your problem is! good luck!

Lol, you sound like my wife.....

I have not tried a stock rooted Rom. I'm telling yall, all was good until Pac man. My WiFi does work. Maybe Ill try that. I was hoping Viper would reel me back in. Guess not. Although viper seems like a super sweet Rom. Looks like it has a ton of tweaks and stuff. If my voicemail would sync, I would be fine but, it won't. Ill try the stock Rom.

Think maybe I need to run an ruu?

I am not up on ruu's,have heard it mentioned to get back to stock but don't know the ramifications or procedure.

wondering if you have done the prl and profile update while on wifi?

do you have a nand that you can go back to from before pacman?

I have had various asop roms make my gps inop before but it usually came back by going to a sense rom. Once it was a bit more of a struggle. :)

try that update from wifi and see what happens.

you can run a ruu if you like keep in mind that it will wipe the recovery. it does not hurt to try it.....if you like.

another idea is maybe try a different firmware as thanx to captain we can now downgrade them.

there is no ramifications to running ruu's with s-off. for those with s-on, they can't unless the ruu is signed by google. it is one of the drawbacks for not being s-off.

I did a prl/profile update while on WiFi. It was done by accident. Could that have fudged it up?

updating profile and prl should not have any effect on your phone other then to improve things. i have never heard that they can have a negative effect before.

so my two suggestions is to either try a ruu (make sure that it matches with what your radio is) or downgrade your firmware(as long as you are s-off).

and by the way, i'm sorry that you are having such issues.

I guess ill try downgrading to 3.15. I was fine there...

But... To scratch my itch.... What about running 3.16 again?

i would try and downgrade and then go back if that did not work at least that is what i would do. but re-flashing the newest radios i guess would not hurt.

I flashed 3.16. I lose connectivity but after cycling airplane mode on and off, it comes back. Any idea why this happens?

I have read where folk have had that problem. Have had it myself after 3.16 going from wifi to 3g a few times.

Don't know why or if sprint has recognized it.

I have to do this on mine. Once I lose a 3G connection, I need to cycle airplane mode on and off to get it back. This is not the latest firmware doing it to me either. Mine has been doing it since I got it.

I remember you stating this a while ago. Have you figured out why this happens?

No I haven't. It seems worse when I'm using the Airave for signal at the house, but it also happens while I'm out and about.

Different Roms, firmware, PRL and profile updates don't make a difference. It doesn't bother me anymore since I just hit the airplane toggle in quick settings. Takes a second or two, no worries on my end. :)
