Root no root is working for my device....

So ive tried to root my droid x and no luck what so ever :(

The z4root just crashes after saying some things when you try to root.

another root i used said installing motorola drivers and just sits there like its froze up.

another looks like it works and finishes but really doesnt in the end.

So im asking can i get some help here or where i should go to download the best files for a droid x 2.2 firmware??

Are you on the stock 2.3.340? If so pull the battery and turn your phone back on and try z4 again. i never can get z4 to work unless it right after a reboot.
Let us know if we can help more! ;)

Try uninstalling and reinstalling z4root once its installed immediately reboot your phone and try running it again. It may take a few minutes but it has worked every time for me.
what does z4root say before it crashes? Did you press permanent root or temp. root?

At one point my phone wouldn't root no matter what I did - z4, super one click, manually...

I had to do a factory reset before I could root it. Very weird, but the exploit just wouldn't finish.

Not a great answer but its something you could try.

Which version of z4 are you using? The latest is 1.3.0. Also, in settings-applications-development, you should have a check mark next to debugging.

Answer these questions, let us know and we'll go from there, ok? :)

not only that, but he just said he was on "Android 2.2" which doesn't necessarily mean he is on .340 where he needs to be...

At this point, we need to hear back from the OP to get answers to our questions. I'll check in throughout the day.

I've used the latest version of z4root and superoneclick neither have worked unfortunately... I've tried every root possible and none work like one member posted above. Maybe ill factory reset it depends on how y'all feel?? I appreciate everyones help. Like stated before im on 2.2 android.

Here's my prescription. Do a factory data reset to 2.2. THEN... go to settings>phone>check for updates. You SHOULD get a prompt for an update to 2.2.1. Take it and update your phone to the latest over the air (OTA) update. From there, install z4root.

Make sure you have 3rd party apps and debugging checked in system-applications. INSTALL z4root. After installation, REBOOT. THEN run permanent root and let it do its thing. Let us know. This should do you, bro.

I would try Z4 immediately upon factory reset. Changing multiple variables in any troubleshooting means that you don't know what solved it.

If he resets, then upgrades, then installs, then reboots... what step solved the problem? Maybe just the factory reset? Maybe just the upgrade? Maybe a combination?

Just MHO, of course.

it would have been the factory reset. He needs the update anyway to get on the current system, radio, bootloader, etc.

Ok steven so i done everything you told me to do and no luck screw my life.... Like i said it just says installing root and crashes out without doing nothing. Im sorry but im like ready to give up. I do not understand what the problem is I've done everything right and the factory data reset did not help ugh.

I am not new to rooting.
I rooted my hero and my incredible.
I just got my droid x from insurance and it was brand new not factory refurb.
I tried everything to root that damn device all methods described did not work.
Here's what I did.
Download and install driver from motorola.
Download superoneclick and put I no file on desktop.
Restart computer and phone.
Set USB debugging on phone.Set to windows sync
Run superoneclick as admin

That worked for me after hours of being mad.
Hope it helps.
