No way...EVO Waterproof?

In my experience, electronics are semi-waterproof....for a few minutes. When I got my iPhone 3g to replace my original iPhone, I ran it under water just like that. It never turned off. In fact the only thing that stopped working was the cable port. It cant charge anymore.

And then theres this video:

YouTube - iPhone 3GS dropped in the pool. Still works!

Keep your phone away from water why do people insist on taking their phones around water then act like it couldnt happen long story short keep your phone away from pools bathrooms lakes beaches preety much any place with a vast amount of liquid on the ground.

So I dropped my phone in the toilet and it went into car panel mode and the screen stayed on the whole time and even when i pulled it of the water it still stayed on until i pulled the battery out. I poured the water out stuck the battery back in restart it works fine but touch screen wont work so then i hit it with the hair dryer and all is well now again.

Hair dryer itself could of messed your phone up. your best bet is to stick it in rice for 2 days be patient.dont turn on right away there still might be hope if you dint turn it on and fry it. Also I heard wash with distilled water then rice method.

So I posted a while ago about my phone being destroyed. About 4 weeks ago I left it in my pocket and put it through the washer, including a 2 hour soak cycle in soapy water. When I couldn't find it and realized what had happened, I was devastated. I took it out and the screen was about 65% full of water. I took apart as quickly as possible, but couldn't get the screen off (that is a big deal involving a heat gun). I let everything dry for about two days, then put it in rice, and left it for close to a week. After a week - it was still dead and the screen was about 50% covered in water. I realized I had an extra battery (the extended was in it, I still had the stock battery in storage) and tried it out. It actually came on! My happiness quickly faded when I realized that it took it about 10-15 minutes to boot to the home screen, the screen itself was still completely covered in water and impossible to see through, and the backlight was flickering. Despite that, the touch screen still worked through the water, but I knew it was toast. I put it back in my desk in the container of rice and left it, purchasing an Evo 3D the next day (an amazing upgrade over the original EVO, btw, except for two things: signal strength and speakerphone quality).

Anyway, a few days ago (about 3 weeks after leaving it in the drawer) I pulled it out to look at it. The water was all gone from the screen. Curious, I turned it on - and it booted up in about 30 seconds, to a perfectly visible, non-flickering home screen. I played with it for a bit and realized it was essentially exactly the same as how it was before it was washed. Everything worked perfectly. Using wifi, (since the phone was deactivated) I played Pandora on it to check the speakers, surfed the internet, took pictures, etc. My final test was to see if it would give out - so I left it on for a few days. It didn't turn itself off once, and it seems to be in perfect order.

Sooo...I returned my 3D (in the nick of time) and reactivated by original EVO. Though it needed about a MONTH to dry out, it completely survived a trip through the washer and a 2 hour soaking in hot, soapy water. Quite amazing really.

Now just one question, when the Samsung Within comes out (if it gets good reviews) obviously I can't sell this phone on ebay, back to sprint, etc (since it has water damage and it would be wrong to do so), so what should I do with it? Just keep it as a back up phone for the future?

i do not see why you can't return your evo in for a trade in. they usually do not check for water damage on trade ins. as long as it works you should be good to go. if you need something fixed then that is a different issue.

He's really convincing with the are you serious, and the wow is this phone water proof or something. Either way you have to be rooted to have a black splash screen like that cause I had to put the same one on mine. And it sat on that splash screen the whole time so obviously the phone was ****ed from the get go.

I was working on a boat (in SW Florida) when the platform I was standing on broke ( add fat joke here ) of course I had my awesome EVO in my pocket when I hit the water ... About 6 feet under. I removed my battery as quickly as I could, flushed it out with fresh water and finished the boat job. When I got home I submerged the phone again in fresh water for about a half hour ( while I showered ) Pulled the phone apart (thank you to all who have posted on this website) Using a heat gun and a infrared temp gun I repeatedly brought the temperature of the phone up to 125 several times, allowing it to cool between each warming. Then into a bag of rice for 24 hours. Reassembled the phone and a different battery pack ....

It fired up like nothing ever happened !!!! There are still water stains on the LCD but it works ... all except for the camera.

Big Thanks to all who have written usable information on this site .... AWESOME

Swimming pool mishap over the weekend...I went in and so did the Evo...was in the water for about 5-10 seconds (intoxicated)...since then, it has been in rice and drying in the sun outside....5 days later, it will fully run but it is still damp under the screen and the camera isn't working. Evo is a beast!

I'm going with the "water damage doesnt always kill a phone" option. I had an iPhone 4 that had SEVERE damage (opened up the back and the inside was COATED in rust --- link to pic) but the only issue I experianced was Video-out stopped working and a *faint* usually unnoticeable yellow tint on a few spots on the screen... (even battery life was fine, which is a KNOWN problem with water-damaged iPhones) It just depends on what gets wet...

EDIT:
Also just a tip (never tried this but read it a LOT), if you DO drop your phone in water, leave it there till it powers off, remove the battery and submerge the phone for ~24 hours in Isopropanl (sp?) Alcohol - this will remove the water from the phone, then allow it to dry for 2-3 days before powering on, this has saved countless phones from rust damage
