So I posted a while ago about my phone being destroyed. About 4 weeks ago I left it in my pocket and put it through the washer, including a 2 hour soak cycle in soapy water. When I couldn't find it and realized what had happened, I was devastated. I took it out and the screen was about 65% full of water. I took apart as quickly as possible, but couldn't get the screen off (that is a big deal involving a heat gun). I let everything dry for about two days, then put it in rice, and left it for close to a week. After a week - it was still dead and the screen was about 50% covered in water. I realized I had an extra battery (the extended was in it, I still had the stock battery in storage) and tried it out. It actually came on! My happiness quickly faded when I realized that it took it about 10-15 minutes to boot to the home screen, the screen itself was still completely covered in water and impossible to see through, and the backlight was flickering. Despite that, the touch screen still worked through the water, but I knew it was toast. I put it back in my desk in the container of rice and left it, purchasing an Evo 3D the next day (an amazing upgrade over the original EVO, btw, except for two things: signal strength and speakerphone quality).
Anyway, a few days ago (about 3 weeks after leaving it in the drawer) I pulled it out to look at it. The water was all gone from the screen. Curious, I turned it on - and it booted up in about 30 seconds, to a perfectly visible, non-flickering home screen. I played with it for a bit and realized it was essentially exactly the same as how it was before it was washed. Everything worked perfectly. Using wifi, (since the phone was deactivated) I played Pandora on it to check the speakers, surfed the internet, took pictures, etc. My final test was to see if it would give out - so I left it on for a few days. It didn't turn itself off once, and it seems to be in perfect order.
Sooo...I returned my 3D (in the nick of time) and reactivated by original EVO. Though it needed about a MONTH to dry out, it completely survived a trip through the washer and a 2 hour soaking in hot, soapy water. Quite amazing really.
Now just one question, when the Samsung Within comes out (if it gets good reviews) obviously I can't sell this phone on ebay, back to sprint, etc (since it has water damage and it would be wrong to do so), so what should I do with it? Just keep it as a back up phone for the future?
