Help No Wi Fi After Update today!!???

The thing I am wondering about now is that a lot of us are having issues with the WiFi not working, like me. Except the WiFi will ONLY work on google.com or any of it's tabs on the mobile page. So figure that one out! Also I Odin'd back to 2.3.4 and I noticed my touch screen works like a dream! Not sure if it has to do with it carrying over something from the 2.3.6 update, since I only flashed the recovery, kernel, and system images to it. But the WiFi works fine on 2.3.4 and now my touch screen is MUCH better, still have those pesky CIQ's though!!! So I'm sticking with that until interdpth has a working Odin flash for it. I mainly wanted the update for the screen fix since it use to make playing draw something a pain in the arse! So now it's time to hurry up and wait, like the rest of you

I already had called both Boost and Samsung before posting here. I just went and posted on both of their facebook walls as well. I still think it's beyond stupid that they have no solution to this problem, and they only have the stock "send in your phone for repairs" answer. I even had them try to tell me that my warranty was void because it must have been a "3rd party function download"....really!?!?!?! And they call that "customer support"...

on a lighter note, I downgraded back to 2.3.4 and my wifi works fine and for some reason my touch screen isn't crappy anymore. It makes playing draw something awesome now and moving things around on the home screen is a breeze! Not sure what happened but I think it might have carried over certain parts from the 2.3.6 update when I reverted back to 2.3.4 and fixed the screen issue we all seem to have. Now if only it would have gotten rid of those pesky CIQ's. Guess I'll just have to wait for interdpth to make a rooted version for us......

How do you "downgrade" back to 2.3.4? I would love to have my phone back to the way it was 24 hours ago. I dont have a clue what this Odin is that I keep seeing people post about, and keep in mind that I'm nowhere near being a tech-geek, so use small words...lol

Chuck, follow this link to my post on a different thread. It shows step by step how to do it. It does take a while to download the system file though so just be patient.

Note that sometimes the site that hosts the software changes the odin file to a .bin file, all you need to do to open is change it from .bin to .exe if it isn't already .exe

I found a workaround! If you use a static IP then your wifi will work fine. It seems there is a DHCP problem with the latest update (2.3.6) that is not connecting to the DNS properly.

Actually, that's the first thing I tried and that didn't work for me. I'm not saying you're wrong, it just didn't help me get my wifi working.

You put in all the reqs?

  • IP Address
  • Gateway
  • Subnet Mask
  • DNS - Usually your providers unless you have your own DNS server like me.

They must all be in from your router in order to work.

On a side note i see the phone is constantly scanning for wireless networks even when connected. This must be a doozy of a bug. Hope they get it fixed soon.

Yeah I immediately put it all in to see if that worked, and the samsung rep had me trie it as well as part of the troubleshooting

Interesting. I did a reboot after putting the info in and it works perfect now until I turn static ip off then back to nothing but then I add the IP back in and its been good to go.

It won't mess that up. Go to settings, wiresless & network setting, Wi-Fi Setting, hit the menu button, advanced, select use static ip. Then enter the info for your network.

Yeah...I'm using a cisco router. I see the option of, well take a look. I'm not very router savy.

My instructions are for what to do on your phone not in your router. :)

You don't have to do anything to your router. But you do need to figure out what your ip should be, gateway, netmask, and dns. If you've never setup a static IP before you might want to google search on how to do so with your router.

Oh...my bad. Thanks for your help. I'll attempt to tackle that task tomorrow.

Samsung told me I might have to send the phone in for "repairs"....

Hmmmm that sounds a bit familiar... let me guess... they also told you that they have not heard of such a problem and you were the first to tell them... right???

Be careful sending it in they might tell you AFTER you send it that you must pay 150.00 for a new keyboard slider because it has a scratch on it and they must fix it before thay can reflash your phone back to a working order so you can use your wifi again.

i did nothing to my phone and the wifi seems to be working fine again, but now it keeps telling me i dont have my sd chip in it? anyone else getting this too?

Okay so I downloaded from google play "static wifi", which gave me my gateway, netmask,etc.... so I wrote those down and deleted the app... I didn't want two programs conflicting with each other. Under wi fi settings I entered the static ip info, turned off the phone, turned it back on and made sure ip static was selected and everything was wifi-ing again... still b.s. that this should have to be done

After static IP seemed to have fixed the problem last night, it has now stopped working again.

Edited to add: So last night I JUST set up static IP, but without inputting specific DNS. It worked, but stopped working by morning. Today I set it up with the DNS and it's working again.

C'mon, Samsung, get it together.

Yes, when I mention the fix is because when I did packet sniffing to determine if it was a phone issue or router issue I saw that the phone was missing the DNS request that are needed to translate domain to IP. This is why static IP with DNS should work for the most part but if its a problem that I think it is then it could still lose out after some use. The more I look at it it seems to be an issue with IPv4 protocol on the phone.

Nerdyshel I had that problem today. Also I had to hold the power button down for longer for it to light up. I took my battery out for a few mins. Haven't had any problems since. But we shall see.
