Help No Wi Fi After Update today!!???

From what I've heard, this is the running problem with everyone, not just myself.
Correct me if I'm wrong...but it seems to usually be only one place that's screwed after the update...some people have connectivity problems with ALL WiFi, which I do as well, but some will let the connection go at least for a LITTLE while, with limited capabilities...Some other people are able to use WiFi just fine on one (like the person above that I was commenting on) but another connection is totally now useless.

Still, Samsung has no fix for us. And THAT'S the part that pisses ME off the worst.

I posted on May 16th....

"I have found a work around for this, I think !!!"

I have been working just fine for several weeks now using the Set DNS program I purchased for $3 at the app store.

I ran Set DNS and changed my dns to the open DNS option and applied it.

This works great on all wifi except those corporate wifi set=up's that make you get a splash screen to accept some sort of screen before you can get to the internet. The issue here is that public DNS servers can't direct you to a private web page.

Yeah I remember that.. I thanked you back then for the info.. has anyone tried either of these very similiar fixes? I don't have a wifi issue but I've always used opendns anyway...

I have not tried any fixes, but like you, I also haven't had any problems with the update. I'd also like to hear what everyone has to say about what they've tried as a workaround, what worked, and for how long.

I imagine a big part of the difference between those having a problem and those who aren't boils down to a minor detail, which is why I'm interested in whether or not anyone else also tried updating their firmware, PRL, or profile after the update. The more we can narrow down the possibilities of what was different, the better equipped we'll be to find a permanent solution.

I went ahead and updated everything after the original update came through automatically, I went in and updated the other 2, 3?

And I'm one of the ones having problems.

The techs on the phone had me hard reset, and also update the others again, just in case. But since nothing changed, I'm convinced it was the original update that screwed everything up.

Still crossing my fingers they fix it ASAP. :-(

I have found a work around for this, I think !!!

First off, I have found that the wifi is really working, the issue is that DNS is not working.... this means that though you have a wifi connection, your browser can not resolve the URL names.... aka, Google is not found because the DNS server can not be found to change google.com to 74.125.45.138..... to test this, turn on your wifi, open your browser, in the URL line, put 74.125.45.138 and google will open....

I tested all this by using the following apps;
Ping & DNS this program allows you to do DNS lookup's on the phone.
Set DNS this program allows you to configure a DNS setting on your currently running wifi.... I used Open DNS as my setting.....
(set dns is free for 24 hours to test it, after that I am going to have to buy it for $3)

After installing these two apps, I ran Set DNS and changed my dns to the open DNS option and applied it. I then ran a ping test using Ping & DNS and it showed that it pinged google.com 3 time successfully.

I then opened my browser and wala!!! it works now....

give us all feedback if you find a better DNS set program and/or if you are successful as I was!!!

TYPING THE NUMBERS IN MY BROWSER WHILE CONNECTED TO WIFI DOES BRING ME to Google. But I don't understand what I'm supposed to do after this. I'm still nervous to screw something up downloading stuff, which I'm also confused as to how you CAN download if there's no net connection on my phone :-/
Help?

The whole DNS settings thing, if someone could walk me through how to try that...In kindergardener terms, preferably, as I'm completely new to all this tinkering with technology...

And will tinkering with this DNS thing screw things up for my laptop or PS3? Because if it will, I don't want to mess them up too.

No it won't screw up your other connected devices... you can get the app, but I think it requires root. Or you can change your routers dns servers. Tell me the make and model number of your router and I will try to find you a specific guide for that router type. Or you could go to opendns and look for it yourself. I suggest pming me if you want my help with this since my phone will notify me when you do.

Hmmm was it an open message or a pm? I can only view pms with tapatalk not open messages.. and I am always on the go lol

I have an unrooted Boost Mobile phone & I encountered the same limited functionality wifi problem (3G still worked though). I tried the wifi direct by @saoldan & it worked but I would have to repeat this every time I wanted to connect. I then installed Wifi Buddy Beta (free app from the Play Store) & set the wifi sleep policy to never. The wifi direct + wifi never sleep worked for me, the connection seems slower than before the update, but at least it works. Hope Samsung comes out with a fix soon. Also, I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I saw on Wikipedia that Android 2.3.6 affected wifi tethering on some phones, so Google released a fix (2.3.7). Could be a similar situation with our phones.

I seriously want to throw my phone and cry...not sure yet in which order.

Tried the open DNS thing in my router settings, and still the same shit.

Ugh. I really do not want to do this rooting my phone and downloading stuff...with the Odin or whatever. Has anybody else been pestering Samsung or Boost? Surely SOMEone can get them to fix their screwup???

I have read in a couple of posts that wikipedia has some info about a 2.3.7 update coming soon. So it's just a hurry up and wait game right now.

After trying to do the DNS server thing with my router, nothing worked any differently. So I just changed everything back to the way it was.
Then I went back in my cell and tried to open the WiFi Direct thing, even though nothing happens when I do...though I can tell it to scan just to scan, even though there's nothing it ever finds...Then I disconnected it and let it automatically reconnect to my router, and then just closed it all out.
The bars for WiFi signal turned back to green instead of grey again, but it does that once in a while anyway.
But the next time I tried to use WiFi it worked. And if I mess with the WiFi direct thing every now and then, it seems to work here and there...soooooooooo maybe I have a temporary solution for now? I just hope it stays working when I do this.
I'm afraid to get excited at this point LOL!

Its very weird that your phone was not finding anything.. it is my understanding that phones could connect but not get internet service.. sort of like when you computer connects to your router and then says no internet connectivity...

I'm still sitting and waiting and paying for a broken service, in hopes that they'll fix it. Now I'm curious? How many people who are having this problem updated over wifi and how many updated by 3g? Is it possible that this was caused by doing the upgrade on wifi as I did? Or are those who updated using 3g having the same problem? It's just that I know that not everyone is having the problem since the update and I haven't seen any mention of this possibility.

Any thoughts? Or am I just grasping at straws?

I updated using 3g & my wifi connection was affected. Hope Samsung comes out with a fix soon.

5 weeks and still no fix, no update, no reply in hardly any way from either boost or samsung....this is BEYOND ridiculous!! I can't believe they are having that many issues un-doing what thier update did. How hard could it possibly be to simply do a roll-back to 2.3.4, or fix the wi-fi connectivity issues in the 2.3.6. It's mind numbing that this is still a problem!!

OK, now I getting irritated, I have changed nothing since I got the replacement phone from the insurance carrier (except add a couple apps) I am having the most difficult time keeping a signal 3g or WiFi, I am getting that same thing where that color is gone from the signal icons and they are white or gray (dang color blindness) If I leave the phone setting on the table with WiFi working and app running using the WiFi, it will start cutting out and cause the app to stall.

I keep getting the install update (2.3.6) but I delete this file and then let it think its going to update by rebooting. It then boots into CWM and I select reboot and no update and I don't lose root. So why is this so fudged up? What is the solution exactly? I have been thinking of flashing a backup before this crud has been happening. I cannot run Pandora and my gps at the same time with out it slowing down or not responding at all. Taking for ever to load these apps. Have been running Star-ScROM for quite some time now, may change to see what happens.

So after all this time sitting and waiting and trying my best to just be patient...
I tried the WiFi direct thing where you tell it to connect (green check mark) then I click the menu button, click on "Scan" and even though it doesn't find anything or actually DO anything, I then just uncheck the green check mark and exit. It seems to work again. So it works, to a certain degree, but it's still unacceptably irritating how Samsung can't seem to just send out a quick update fix. To me, it sounds like they just don't care. Even with all these people talking about it, I still just think they're saying basically, "Deal with it."
Horrid customer service.
So now I'm stuck with Boost Mobile AND Samsung, two companies I will never again want to do business with once I have enough money to get out of both...sadly that will take a really long time :-( Other things in life more important for a few years.
Hopefully someone will push the right button with Samsung eventually (hopefully sooner rather than later) and get them to finally do the right thing and fix the screwup by releasing either a revert back to the old O.S. or an updated new version to move forward with.
Sigh.
I remember the days when technology was easy :-/
Anybody else have any update news?

LOL, I remember when this was open-source and the companies weren't trying to stop you. Now it seem like there is some trickery going on I haven't applied an update yet but am having huge issues with loosing my bars which is causing the app to stop or even crash. This all happened after the update downloaded.

So I've been using the Wifi Direct option and I have internet most of the time. I have to make sure to go into my settings and resest it anytime I go from home to work, and sometimes I have to reset for no particular reason, but it works most of the time now at least.

It's stunning that neither Boost nor Samsung has responded to this issue at all, though. I bought this phone 2 weeks before the update and love it, but the issues I have had dealing with the broken wifi are ridiculous and don't speak highly of either company. And I was pretty damn happy with Boost for the last 4 years. :/ Hoping for an update fix for those having worse luck than me.
