Root Non-voodoo to voodoo....making the switch?

Yes absolutely
So the screen filter icon is the one in the bottom right corner. I click it and it engages at my preset. To adjust I bring my notification bar up/down and it gives me the top screen of these two. Mind you when it says 100% thats just what you set the screen default as in my case 0% brightness so the screen can get really dim if you turn it down low enough

So you may have me sold on it Ill have to try it out. Because most ppl think Im a dork for it but I dont use wigets. All my docks are full but I perfer to just go into app drawer where they are listed alphabetically. So I have blank screens other than clock/weather widget. And 1 more screen with just for the brightness widget.

You and me both, well technically I have one widget the BW but thats it. Im also down from 7 to just 3 homescreens now. Screens 1 and 3 have my most used apps. I keep 2 free for my BW and wallpaper. Simple is nice

That screen filter is awesome!.This may not make any sense and may be completely out there, but I think, if I remember correctly, that I had better battery life with the stock DJ05 kernel that was part of the whole package. Does that sound possible? Whats the best way to get that back just to try it out again?

Its not stock but many including myself noticed jt's old clean rom v.3 for DJ05 was a battery life all-star. If you want battery life I still say try imnuts -100mv 01/08 kernel. However, I do also have the rom and just the kernel for v.3 if you want that too. But try the imnuts kernel first http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17111376/Kernels/url_list.txt

Ok I'll test out the -100 for now. Also using screen filter now so that may help too. Thanks for your help and suggestions!

I might try this kernel later today for better battery, even though I am enjoying pretty good battery length on StupidFast 1.98. How's performance on that kernel? Pretty fast?

Edit: By "that" I mean imnuts -100v 1/08 kernel.

performance on stock speed voodoo5 is more or less going to be the same as any other voodoo5 stock speed kernel...battery life seems good on it though

Okay, after doing plenty of research I have come to the conclusion that most of the warnings used with Voodoo were given before Voodoo5 because Voodoo5 seems extremely easy to use (I am still proceeding with a lot of caution after reading some of the stories of Voodoo trouble). Just to be sure before I get into this (if I get into this), I am going to write my interpretation of the process and if somebody could chime in and tell me if I am on the right track that would be great (and hopefully helpful to anybody else that might be attempting this):

1) Full Nandroid backup - reboot into recovery - wipe cache - flash voodoo5 kernel that I put on the root of my sdcard - wait until finished - then reboot and once again wait a long while.

......and that's it? That seems far too easy, but great, I am here.

2) Now, if I ever want to make a nandroid backup, I need to do disable lagfix by either

A) Using Root Explorer add a file into sdcard/Voodoo folder named disable_lagfix then reboot into recovery and make the backup. Then delete disable_lagfix file and reboot.

or

B) Boot into red recovery and select disable lagfix in the Voodoo menu. Then make the backup - then enable lagfix again

Then to get rid of voodoo, I need to disable the lagfix like the previous step, reboot, wipe cache, and then flash a nonvoodoo kernel.

Am I on track?

Questions: If I want to flash a theme or rom, I will need to disable lagfix then flash and then go back to menu and enable lagfix? And I do not need to disable to simply flash voodoo5 kernels over other ones - only wipe cache and flash?

Recovery I am assuming becomes red recovery. It is not something I need to specifically go into? And if I ever want to get rid of it after getting rid of Voodoo I will need to flash something like jt's 11/29 nonvoodoo kernel?

Thanks for any help. I know information is easily spelled out in places like here - http://androidforums.com/fascinate-all-things-root/198102-how-flash-voodoo-kernels-more-look-here-first.html#post1737150
but I just want to be 100% sure I am reading and interpreting it correctly.

Sounds like you pretty much got it. Other than in your questions part. You said disable lagfix to flash roms and you do not have to do this. I have flashed a few roms with voodoo5 and not disabled it 1 time. Now I'm not sure if you have to for aosp because I've not gone to it but I'm sure someone will step in and answer that. But other than that sounds like you have done your research. :D

Peter
1) yes thats its very easy and yes v5 is much more user friendly than v4 ever easy
2) once you have the red cwm you can do everything right from there no need to disable lagfix for theme flashes or restores nandroids made in red. So if you have a pre voodoo nandroid once you flash onto voodoo make another one in red cwm and that one you can restore to from red/voodoo

So, basically when I flash voodoo, I will have red recovery. From there, I can freely make nandroid backups, and flash themes and roms. Only thing I need to disable lag_fix to do in regards to nandroid is if (for some reason) I wanted to restore one I made before going voodoo.

Thanks again, the help here is tremendous.

Yes if you made a nandroid in green restore in green, if you made it in red restore in red, lagfix does not need to be disabled if its red to red
Beat ya and I swyped mine ;)
Yes I saw that speedy;)

OK so after a day of use on imnuts-100, I'm posting a little better battery life I think. Been unplugged for just under 14 hours and sitting at 55%. Could be the kernel, but could also be the screen filter. Either way, Im definitely happy with the results so far. I still think it could be better so ill keep trying different things. Saps, how can I get my hands on the v.3 kernel?

Here ya go http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15246936/cleanv3kernel.zip
But I dont think it will beat the imnuts one, still good stuff

Is this a voodoo kernel? Do I need to wipe data and/or cache?
Wow you know I dont really know or remember :(:confused: Im kinda embarrassed :o:o. Honestly though that kernel I just linked is -50mv whereas the Im nuts is -100mv so in theory the imnuts should be better
