Root Noob with custom rom question

Hello all, I have had my evo for over a year now and it has been rooted for almost the entire time. I am not too knowlegeable about rooting but im ususally pretty quick to pick up on things. I know I can not do an ota update because of root. And i rooted mainly in order to remove bloatware and in an attempt to get better battery life.

So, my question is, how would I get the latest update onto my phone, since I have not updated since root? Flash a custom rom?

If so, I can look up how to do so. Could someone give me a reccomendation as to which rom to use? I don't play games besides things like I words with friends. I mainly text and use the browser. Any help would be great. I guess as close to stock as possible, with btter battery life if possible

You only need to flash a custom Rom built off of the latest Ota with root permissions. The Rom listed above is a good start, I would also recommend MikG. Very stable, very fast. Lots of added stuff you won't find on a stock Rom.

If I were you I'd personally skip illuminiati and flash MikG.

MikG has been out forever, is fast, stable, and has great dev support...... whereas illuminiati just came out and who knows.

Bottom line..... If you looking for something you can flash and stick with go MikG
 
Found much more on MikG. I think I will go with that. I dont need anything crazy.

Can i do this using my macbook pro or do i need to it it from a windows based pc?

it should be fine on your mac. just make sure that it does not unzip the file when it downloads. you just need your computer to download the file and transfer it to the card.
