Root noooooooooob question

Like many people, I am considering rooting, but I am a bit nervous to actually give it a shot.

One of the reasons I am wary is that I am very absent minded and usually a complete bonehead about backing stuff up. No matter how many times I've lost hours of work I've done because I neglected to save as I went. The only thing that has kept me from jumping out the window a few times is auto-recover on many programs. Which brings me to my question...

Is there a way (setting, app, etc.) to set an automatic daily or weekly nandroid backup so if I follow my usual pattern and forget to back it up I'll always have a (somewhat) current working backup if I screw things up?

there is nothing like that that i know of. the main thing is procedure. anytime you flash a rom, theme, or mod you should always make a nandroid backup. and that is the only time that you should ever make one. daily or weekly nandroid backups are completely unnecessary. main thing is to never rush into anything and do the research as well as ask a lot of questions. this forum is great for that.

here are my basic steps when i flash a new rom:
1)wipe (data, cache, and dalvik cache)
2)make a nandroid backup
3)flash a custom rom

also make sure that you read and understand the rooting for dummies guide. it is great and has helped me take that leap.

hope that helps, and if not please feel free to ask questions.

You can actually schedule a back up on whatever frequency you like through rom manager. You were likely unaware ocn because most of us don't use rom manager. But its in there. You can also schedule a system data and app back up through TB.

FYI, you might want to switch steps 1 and 2...

1- Make a nandroid backup
2- Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache
3- flash rom

If you wipe then make a backup, youll be backing up a fresh rom with all of your settings gone :)

Make the backup first, so that if anything goes wrong, you can go back to your backup

You can download Titanium Backup from the market, and schedule daily backups nightly, like I do. Now, just in case you catastrophically F up your rom, you can wipe, reflash, and restore your apps. You could also backup your system settings using TiBackup, but I would advise against if you're jumping from ROM to ROM.

Good luck.

A while ago, I was in your shoes. Now I'm rooted. No regrets. No going back to stock.
