Note 7 specs - whoa! (if it becomes a reality..)

So, instead of getting the Spigen Ultra Slim, I opted for ordering the VRS transparent tpu w/ kickstand.

I'm hoping I don't regret that choice, since I've found that these types of cases were still too thick for my preference. In any event, I ordered some ultra slim tpu cases from aliexpress, just to have some other options (especially since they're inexpensive).

Hell, I might dump Verizon if they get an INFERIOR variant than everyone else. WTH would Samsung or Verizon do that?

I would LOVE to dump Verizon, but they are the only carrier around here with sufficient coverage. So I'm stuck. If other variants come out with 6GB RAM and Verizon sports 4GB (which is unimaginable, as there is no rationale for it), then I will vote with my wallet and skip the Note7. And I'll be very vocal in letting Samsung and Verizon know WHY they're not getting my $800+.

Or, just hope that Samsung does the same thing with the Note 7, that they did with the S7/S7 Edge, and offer an Unlocked version that'll work on all the US providers. If Verizon somehow limited their variant, nothing they can do on the unlocked variant.

They don't usually offer the unlocked/dev phones right away though, do they? I am buying out of pocket, so if we knew there would be a Dev edition I'd most likely wait for that as long as the wait wasn't too long.

Don't hold your breath for a US Developer Edition with an unlockable bootloader, for any carrier.
SIM Free/Carrier bloat free, most likely, but, not bootloader unlocked....

I wasn't holding my breath, I didn't expect they would offer one. But you never know I guess. Main point for me, I had already decided I would live without root and just get the retail version of the N7, but if the Verizon variant is also a lower spec'd phone than other carriers get, hell I don't know if I can stomach that. We will know in a few weeks, but disappointing news on this phone gets tiring.

I'm sitting this one out,at least on opening day & perhaps until next year.
Definitely not getting a US unlocked or US Carrier branded model,if it follows in the S7/Edge footsteps of being locked-down for development on day one.
I suspect any vulnerabilities in the S7/Edge will be patched for the Note7 SD Powered variant, making development,if even ever possible, too far down the road to care at that juncture.

I suspect part of the reason they might be going with what are basically S7 spec'd internals could be because they have locked that hardware down even more. I am very disappointed with internals that are already 6+ months old though. I don't mod much, I just need root for titanium, ad block, and a few other things here and there it is nice for. Hopefully there will be work-arounds enough for those types of things on the retail version.

Ive been waiting for a while for this phone because my s6 edge isnt what it used to be. And I didnt just buy the S7 edge because this was supposed to be better. But if this phone will be less impressive than originally rumored, I might go for the Moto Z Force this time around. Considering Ive read itll be cheap relative to flagship devices I may just use it as a stopgap option until the S8 comes out.

Well, things are boding well for the rumors that the Note7 will receive Android 7.0 fairly quickly. The final Developer Preview for Android Nougat has been released:

http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2016/07/final-developer-preview.html

While I'm not holding my breath that the Note 7 will launch with nougat, they have stated nougat will be launched in Q3. That could explain why there were rumors the Note 7 would launch in July with nougat.... and just maybe had to be a delayed a few weeks for the final version of nougat to come out so launching in August instead.

Like I said, not holding my breath, but that would be a big deal if Samsung launches it on Note 7 instead of updating at a later date. If it does come with nougat, this will be a day one buy for me.

Considering that the Note7 is already in production, I highly doubt that Nougat will be baked in at launch. At best, we can expect an OTA shortly after launch.

That is, of course, with the exception of the Verizon version, which can expect the Android N update right around the same time that Android Q is released :p

So happy about Evan Blass' last tweet. He said there is gonna be a BOGO deal for the T-mobile Note 7! That means I'll be swooping up 2 of these bad boys.

I would rather have a more stable, current gen version of an OS. I have always felt OS upgrades were overated anyway. The first roll outs seem to have issues that need to be fixed frequently for a while. I am still on Lollipop on my N4 as I have it working how I want and since it's a Dev edition I don't want to break some major function (like Occulus gear, etc) that all work right now. So I am not one to think having the very first version of Nougat is something of a big deal. Give me a fine tuned version of Marshmallow and I will be cool. I am more concerned about the specs of the internals. Sounds like S7 level specs, which is still disappointing.

I've never owned a Galaxy S, so I guess the specs won't disappoint me as much. I'm cautiously optimistic about this phone, even if it's a gap-filler until the Note 8 is released next year with 4K UHD resolution. We'll find out soon enough.

TWO WEEKS TO GO!

Guess we'll see in a couple weeks. I'm 50/50 right now on getting this phone. If it has nougat, then it's a day one buy for me. If not... 50/50. The iris scanner would be kind of cool to have, and I really do want to go back to Verizon. Some of the places I travel to have pretty terrible AT&T coverage, so.... :)
