Notification light

I hope that HTC is paying attention to this and is working on a remedy. Other than this issue I love the phone, and wouldn't trade it for a different model with a working notification light! All of the iPhone slappies out there don't have one, I only got used to it from years of BlackBerry ownership.

lets hope - would be a good improvement for me as i use led for notifications all the time
...i imagine they will say 'contact support' :/ :D

I posted on here how to fix this and the cause but no one wants to listen. I've fixed my phone. But just ignore it if you wish.

It is an issue with using the Google restore option when you first set up your phone.

Very plausible. A Google settings backup from a prior device, that had more notification settings, being imported into the M8 and causing havoc with the LED settings. Moving from Samsung settings -> HTC settings could be problematic.
Or a prior application that worked on a prior device, being imported into the M8 and causing havoc with the LED.

So skip the initial set up step where you import settings (and applications) from Google, and magically the notification LED will work fine.

I outlined a safe mode and diagnostics test, but it is largely ignored as well.
(the new HTC Guide application method is handy, but forgoes the important step of disabling all other 3rd party applications)

Hope I can help. I had the same issue and after lots of searching and reading I found a fix. It's a crappy fix but it works. It seems to be the Google restore option when you set up your phone. You have to do a factory reset, skip the option to restore using Google.

When your done setting up your phone, manually download your apps and you have working led notifications

Factory reset sucks I know. But it worked for me and others

Thanks, I followed your instructions and it worked! I thought mine was broken but by not allowing google's restore option, the lights are working now. It's a pain to manually redownload everything but at least the lights are working now.

I added this information to the HTC M8 FAQ for quick reference under links!

Bought a new M8 on Saturday and had the same issue, no LED notifications, Spent an hour on the phone yesterday with first Verizon and then HTC. The HTC support guy was great (in Eastern Tennessee). Tried several things with no success and the last resort before returning the phone was a factory data reset. That worked! No more issue with receiving the LED notifications. Although they only stay on for 5 minutes. Apparently there was a recent update pushed to the phone that needs the factory data reset.

HTC have contacted me and want to repair my phone :-D mmm.. yeah i don't think that will work, but hey :-D

Let us know! They gave me a new phone, and same issue, but I did use Google to transfer everything, and I used Google to transfer everything to my first one from my GS4.

No problem, I'm glad it worked for you as well!

Edit. The 5 min thing is by design and I wish we could have a setting to make it whatever amount of time we want!

Hopefully they can come out with a fix so you don't have to do a factory reset, but for now that's all we can do.

Also. The notification light is much brighter than the charging light!

yes that would be good... i can't get any sense out of HTC about it.. they are just treating it as a bug with my device :-\
