Did you try turning your ringer and notification volumes all the way down and just leaving them on vibrate?
That does work, but if you don't use Tasker it is way too much work.
I'm not actually doing it in Tasker this second, but off the top of my head:
Add > Context: Application > (select music app) > New Task > Audio > Notification > Set volume to 0
this doesnt work when the music application is running in the background. any workarounds?
I just put it into airplane mode when I am working out and listening to music. Problem solved!
As annoying as they can be I can't imagine not wanting to know when I have a message or call...except when sleeping.if you really want to be in "do not interrupt mode" I think you are going to have to do it manually. I don't see there being a lot of demand from people to block notifications. People are too addicted or too well trained to respond to every ring ding and beep.
Just tried that app. Doesn't work. After deeper research I've found that there is no way to unlink the volume and notification unless you install a custom rom that's coded in that option. AOKP Jelly Bean nightlies doesn't even have it.. yet.

CM9 has that option
Isn't CM9 ICS based though?
Yes, are you on JB? I'm sure the option is still there in CM10, I just don't have a stable enough ROM to test on my phone
