O2 Update this morning

echoed

you are dealing with devices that are worth alot of money, it takes 30 seconds longer to read a guide properly and understand what you are doing.

dont cause unnecessary problems for yourself

Well once you recover, you still will have to do this anyway. So recover, back up what you can and run the o2 (assuming you want to keep the branding for warranty purposes) froyo RUU from your PC.

Download is here: Shipped ROMs

Use this as a guide: http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/148932-froyo-ruu-update-available.html

Is there an alternate download location for this as it doesn't want to finish downloading.

Checked the hardare setting on my desire, and my MAC address has vanished. Good times.

I've been having overheating/crashing/rebooting problems on my Desire, with 2.1-updated installed.

Just loaded Froyo and hopefully it will fix my problem.

Noticed there is a flashlight button now in programs, that i didnt have before. That's handy for me.
Also there is an 'App Sharing' button.

My HTC Sense weather / clock thingy from the home screen has suddenly started working....after having no weather on there for weeks!

hope this is going to sort my problems out for good.

:D

Downloading now, hope all goes well. :D

Edit: Downloaded and installed successfully, does actually seem to run faster? Placebo effect? Or is it supposed to?

Any cool apps I can get on 2.2 now?

froyo using jit in dalvic, its about 3.5 times faster than 2.1
get quadrant and see for yourself

Is there anyway this update can be downloaded on my PC then moved to the SD card and installed from there? Don't want to use a large part of my web allowance on this update. Don't have a wifi connection just yet.

Thanks.

yes

Check the front page of the RUU thread which links to the EXE tool you use in windows
(make sure you pick the O2 RUU and not the other one)

this will however wipe your device so make sure you sync your contacts with google

Just updated without a hitch from stock branded O2 handset with AMOLED screen. Have so far tested Flash 10.1, wifi tethering, and some games etc. and all are working perfectly. So far I am very pleased with the update, the phone seems generally faster, Android Market is working much quicker and proper Flash is a blessing...

Finally...

Ben

just got my O2 update installed but now stuck in a HTC sense loading and get a HTC has stopped warning and force close!!! what do i do?? :(

Thanks for nothing O2.

Try to do the OTA update last night, sadly all seemd to go horribly wrong. The phone seemed to be happily updating then it got stuck on the O2 welcome screen for two hours.

I then spent an hour on the phone to "technical support" being told O2 hadn't realleased an update before they agreeed to replace my paper weight...sorry i meant phone.

Typical as i had just got my profile just the way i wanted it after months of fine tuning. That will teach me not to backup stuff! When will i learn

Yeah its clearly o2's fault.
as you can see on this forum there is a risk associated with any update that it can go wrong. in your case it went wrong but in many cases it doesnt.
would you rather o2 became another orange and not update their devices to a version everyone has been crying over?

youll need to do a factory reset mate, there was probably something you have on your phone conflicting with the update

Thanks for this.

I ended up just going and downloading this update through my phone, it was taking forever so I left it downloading while I went on to bed. Woke up and it was at 85%, back to sleep, woke up an hour later and it had an error saying "download corrupted" with an option of "download or cancel" that's what I think it said as I was zombie-like at the time :p I could be wrong.

Anyone else had this problem? Would the update have saved on the phone anywhere or is it completely gone?

Anyway update was unsuccessful, I will try again next week once I have a Wi-Fi connection.

Cheers!

The shipped-roms site does seem a bit slow and flaky for downloads. I had to resume my download a good few times (it is 170MB) but it got there eventually.

If you are going to update your phone I'd suggest 2 things.

1) Wait until you're on a wifi connection if you do the OTA update and...
2) Download this onto your PC just incase it goes horribly wrong and you can do an RUU update to de-brick your phone.

Updated mine last night about 5pm. Very quick over WiFi. Can't see what all the fuss was about. Phone's no quicker. The only thing it'll let me do (which is quite useful) is move many apps (not all) to my SD card. Oh, and by the way, SWYPE wont work any more - BUGGER!
