Offical Gingerbread coming Friday to the X.

you should include, take it with a grain of salt, cause there have been many times, where they say we get it, then it gets delayed because of a bug lol, even though we have no bugs, but they do :p

Seems kind of strange to do it on a long, holiday weekend, but I'm hoping we'll see it.

Hopefully, they'll be a way to root it pretty quickly.

I am assuming that they blocked the letter for certain copyright reasons. Not really news, but nice to see it might come on Friday.

If you don't want to loose root, just do not accept the OTA

yeah, i saw this too..thanks for reposting..

i have one question..I'm rooted, on Apex 1.4.1 and EVERYTHING on my phone works flawlessly..all of my apps are mint, i'm OC'ed and UV'ed, etc., etc...

is there a way to avoid the OTA when it comes out on Friday until it's been rooted and fixed up a bit? (or am i already on a build that won't receive it?)

tia.

I am running the Gingerbread leak .595. I'm hoping that I can just run the update once it's released without re-flashing back to 2.2.

I do not believe you can do that. It is my understanding that you will need to be on Froyo stock with nothing frozen or removed in order to get the OTA.

if you're running ApeX the update will fail...so you're fine

not officially...you will have to wait for Team Black Hat to release a flashable zip file

can you point me to a link where Verizon or Moto has ever said anything officially about GB for the X?

I see droidlife.com already saying rooting maybe a big problem, how does anyone know how hard it will be? All other releases have been rooted within days.

they don't know...P3 said that it would probably require a new method of rooting (ie: Gingerbreak won't work)...so people are jumping to conclusions that it is going to be hard to do...im positive it will get rooted

Yeah, I would imagine with all the talented people will get it rooted quickly.

Maybe slightly off topic... my dad is running a rooted DX with 2.2.1 OTA. He is not very quick to learn new software and finally has 2.2.1 all figured out, what is the EASIEST way to make sure he doesn't get the OTA until he is ready? What should I rename/freeze?

Thanks in advance.

frankly if he is not very quick with this stuff then he SHOULD take the OTA...if he ever has any problems with the phone and has to take it to a VZW store, or deal with CS...they are going to have him update...they are only going to support the latest version of the software...

also...GB is just plain better than Froyo...and there should be just about zero learning curve moving from Froyo to GB

no no, i meant previously...

he said..."cause there have been many times, where they say we get it, then it gets delayed because of a bug lol"

as far as i know neither VZW or Moto has ever said a WORD about the X getting GB

Seriously, why are you like this? I know you are a pretty intelligent person and mostly I agree with your posts. But, what good will come from you asking snarky questions when you already know the answer?
Wouldn't it have been easier just to post that Moto/Verizon have never made a statement publicly regarding an GB update time frame (like you did in your second post).
Sorry, I don't see the point of reacting like this. Maybe I'm missing something.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to some GB. I just sbf'd back to stock last night. Coincidence? I think so... :p
