Official 2.2 Froyo OTA thread

How did your update to 2.2 turn out!

ok well then hopefully u can answer my questoins. uhh why does my phone run so hot? and does your speaker also suck? and like i said when i made the post i heard that motorola claimed to fix the speaker through a patch and that sounds ******ed to me.
 
the speaker does suck. 2.2 will hopefully fix that. as far as the heat, i'm really not sure. give the hard reset a shot. that usually does the trick.
 
hard reset can i pull card first? i was told at verizon if i did that i would lose everything even stuff that is on the card. i dont want to lose contacts pictures and etc......
 
Today my phone decided to turn itself off too. First time it has done that. It was sitting on my desk and then the next time I looked at it, I saw the Motorola logo.

I'm on my 22nd day so I hope this doesn't happen again.

Edit: I'm rooted.
Edit Again: WTF right after I posted this I definitely found a dead pixel that was not there before. Now I'm freaking out...

A more accurate comparison would be between the Droid 2 and the original Droid. They share many similar parts. The biggest similarity between the D2 and the DX is that they both use 45nm technology.

Take a look at the two following links of the D2 and DX disassembled. It's apparent that they are different. Even the main board layouts differ:

I'm no smart phone genius or tech whiz but I received the 2.2 update last night and after 5 battery removals it finally plays videos and is working out the bugs. As for tethering I am right now and am having no trouble and am running a stock phone. I'm not using the tethering feature though. Maybe I'm not getting what the issue is. I would like to know how to get the Flash stuff though.
 
Have a Droid X, and I was wondering what will happen to our Apps/Photos/Videos after we finally get the update to Froyo? Are these items saved in a database somewhere much like Itunes does with Ipods/Iphones, or will our photos & apps get deleted? (sorry if somebody has already asked/answered this question, but I have been looking everywhere for this info, and I have yet to find it). Been hearing rumors that photos/videos will get wiped within a new update. Im not worried so much about my apps, because I hear the android market keeps track of purchased apps in the downloads category of the marketplace. Any info on this topic would be much appreciated, thank you. :)
 
Your photos and videos are on your memory card. In the slight chance the OTA does something to your apps (which it shouldn't), it will still not affect your media.
 
When my Eris updated from 1.5 to 2.1 everything was still intact. However, I did a factory reset out of habit to clear things up.

what carrier are you with? might explain why you got it last night
 
I will admit I have no idea about the hardware similarities between the DX and the D2 but I went to the Verizon store yesterday and compared speeds between the D2 and my DX and all I can say is WOW, the DX seems to blow the D2 away. I tested the browser, scrolling through apps, openning apps..etc. In all cases, my DX seemed snappier. Also I have around 190 apps downloaded already. This leads me to believe that there is alot more differences between the two phones than just the keyboard and the screen size. Now I can't wait for the 2.2 update to go back and do another comparison.

Hopefully you can post a few pics of your phone with the new software version showing. Otherwise you'll start getting the "pics of it didn't happen" replies.

This is the Droid X forum, you have the Droid. End of confusion/hope.

He's in the wrong thread. He's talking about the original Droid. Look at the devices listed in his profile.

he has one post and his phone is listed as a droid 855. he probiably posted in the wrong forum/section by accident. since it says "official 2.2 Froyo OTA thread" I can understand the confusion

Damn, I was hoping he actually had it for the X which would have meant we were a little closer to everyone getting updated.

That's a little weird. The D2 is using the same CDMA chip that the D1 did. I'm not sure but it looks like the same circuit board also. I wonder if the DX is using the same CDMA chipset.

EDIT***
I did a little searching and it looks like they are still using the same CDMA chip in the Droid, Droid 2, and Droid X. Doesn't look like either one of these three will support Verizons 4G network which is LTE.
 
They probably do it by 10s on the X in order to conserve battery. The more often it has to check the battery level, the more battery it uses.
