Guys iv updated my orange branded desire to 2.2 things look ok few wee issues a big one is that i cant import my contacts from the sim card it loads as if its importing but the contacts just dont show???

Mine did that with on of the roms, click view everything including only show contacts with phone numbers, sync it then im port and it should be fine.

don't mean to be pissy here fellas but I've spent half a hour reading this thread ( currently 17 pages long ) and this thread is supposed to be for news regarding the official OTA 2.2 UPDATE and not the custom rooted 2.2 versions.

there are other places to ask those kind of questions and they just make this thread longer and more crammed full of crap than it need be.

All we know at the moment is that the current planned release date is the last quarter of this year. You can get the latest update on the stickied 2.2. thread at the top of this forum. An alternative is to root your phone and install one of the other ROMS - some of these have Sense, some don't. Guides in the stickied section of the root subforum.

Being an Android noooob, I was wondering if the 2.2 update will install automatically or will I need to do something to receive and accept it? I imagine this will also depend on Orange, my network provider?

Yes :) it's either 1) OTA (over the air) upate or 2) manaul update (manually install the update.zip file).

hmm this is getting no where.... it seems i need to remove some applications (first i thought i wil be getting froyo update soon so that i can move all my apps to sd..think in the near future it wont happen :( )

root + old school A2SD+. It's much better than the froyo A2SD anyway.

Great News. Froyo is coming to HTC Desire in August.

HTC Android 2.2 Froyo Available Now

While it may be true (and I would certainly like it to be true) it is rumor, just a rumor and nothing but a rumor - like all the others.

For those who are impatient: root - flash AdamG's Official HTC Froyo ROM with Sense (most likely the same thing we'll get OTA when HTC finishes testing) - wait for official OTA - unroot - upgrade. Running 2.2 as we speak. Makes waiting on HTC much easier :)

To quote the website:

It was previously said to be that it will be released in mid July 2010 but now the board of directors decided to release it in August 2010 starting, that is really a good news. HTC has made it very clear that they are going to roll out the Android 2.2 (Froyo) to the phones HTC Desire, HTC Droid Incredible and HTC Evo 4G.
According to the news the lucky ones would be the HTC Desire holders, as the Android 2.2 (Froyo) going to rool out for HTC Desire in August, which means earlier than the remaining HTC phones. The remaining HTC phones HTC Droid Incredible and HTC Evo 4G are getting Froyo in December before Christmas.

Who the hell wrote this nonsense!

The article in the link seems to not show very much to back up the story. I would take it with a pinch of salt.

Here's hoping it does arrive in good time in Q310.

You should check your facts before flaming someone. It was announced yesterday on Samsungs Twitter feed and is available now.
no no you should check your facts :) they did get the firmware but LEAKED, and a TEST VERSION. and froyo update is only coming somewhere in september for them :)

so, i can say that we have more than this as our test Froyo firmware version that has been leaked is already optimised and tested and being used by many people and not only by people on this forum :)

I would take anything from HTC customer service with a grain of salt given that they are the ones that started many of the froyo release rumors. The Chinese HTC website looks more reliable. Ahhhh maybe I'm just being too optimistic :(.
