I buyed my Desire from vodafone, but i don't have any apps from them, my phone its clean :). When the update will be available (this week-end), I will be able to update it ?

iTunes syncing?! Now that i did not expect. And yes i know iTunes is awful, but having lost my ipod and had problems with doubletwist, this is great news.

Edit: what is this HTC caller ID feature?

Well, exactly, mines Vodafone, but there is nothing obvious about the phone that says Vodafone, so I can only assume it's the preset sms, mms, configuration. Surely it can't take long to put those into the generic 2.2 and send it out?

I'm in exactly the same situation, and therefore similarily hoping it's very quick. I'm gonna head off to the Vodafone eforum now and see if there's anything on there about it.

OFFICIAL; HTC TO ROLL OUT OTA ANDROID 3 UPDATE BY OCTOBER,
THE GINGERBREAD VERSION OF ANDROID WILL BE RELEASED FOR ALL HTC PHONES BUILT AFTER 6TH MARCH 2010,

not really, just want to see how far this goes !!!!

Anyone know when the Orange branded handsets may get an update, beyond the HTC offered 'in several weeks'.

Otherwise, what is currently the best method of de-branding.

Also i have seen issues with radio not working or sim locking after debranding the Orange Desire??

Any help appreciated.
Nice one to those unbranded's!!

Why not just wait?

Why not just wait?

I know i come across as impatient!

Just don't want to be 2months behind waiting for Orange to catch up, and then find its full of the same bloatware as before!

Also fed up of having to delete an app to install anything new at the minute.

i have a question about upgrading to froyo. im running launcher pro, would it be better if i switched back to sense before i update?
also in terms of backing up data..does anyone know what we would be losing? or anyone recommend any good backup apps.

Like with Hero Orange is going to be the last operator to upgrade Desire. Unfortunately I have an Orange FULLY branded phone too, which I am too scared to root as there seems to be problems with this particular version of Desire. Orange probably put some software that makes it more difficult to debrand.

I am also getting tired of not being able to get all the apps I want. And this is when I do not even have That many big space requiring apps.

I am getting tired of Orange. Yesterday I was in Picadilly and needed to find a restaurant and neither did I get GPS nor the Data connection. Tried for 30 minutes and decided to ask a stall holder for directions. This is crap.

I dunno why people keep bringing the hero issues in here.
It's an entirely different case!
The hero had to be updated from 1.5 to 2.1.
I don't know if you know, but the changes from 1.5 to 2.1 were pretty big. Alot of things changed in the system's core.
In 2.2 they mostly added things, which means less work for htc. This gave then more time to add some features, like HD video capturing, and itunes sync.

So, what have we learned from this? Those who are patient will be rewarded.

sigh, O2 have said it will be "several weeks" before they release 2.2 for customers, T-Mobile are saying September

VF are still to confirm their plans, but it doesn't look good for a quick update :(

Got this from Techradar annoucement of Froyo:

As for the upgrade, HTC says the update won't delete any of your phone's content. Due to the size of the update, the manufactuer also advises using Wi-Fi to download it. You don't say.

Just to confirm, even though Im 99% sure, I got my desire from CPW but my contract is with O2. It doesnt have any O2 stuff when I load it up or any O2 crap anywhere on the phone. this means its unbranded right? And that means I will get the update this weekend?

Im in the same boat as you eteyen. Im sure that our phones are unbanded. I dont have any 02 boot up messages or anything. So we should get it this weekend.

All phones from CPW come unbranded so yeah you should get some FroYo lovin this weekend :D.

Look at the phones firmware and google it - that should tell you if it's HTC or O2

Sadly, my firmware is a Vodafone release so I'm at their mercy (that won't stop me trying over the weekend though)

I'm gonna love looking at this thread on monday ,
see how many people are saying " well, maybe next weekend, but its coming !!!!!"
