Very puzzling as i have the same as you orange branded from CWH and the update went in a treat?? Looking forward to hearing how you solve it mate. Sorry i couldn't help you this time.

My unbranded/unlocked Desire from mobiles.co.uk (part of CWH) updated smoothly - I only had to make some space as I only had 19MB free. Nice to see 720P HD on the movie mode now. Not really had a chance to explore so I am looking forward to some more new features and better performance in some areas.

You are lucky guys, because if I chose to show Current Location in Clock widget it says Cambridge (Current) and "No weather data available" (same was in 2.1). I don't know what to do about it... So if I change my location(city or country) I need to re-add Clock widget and change town manually...

I have the same problem as Afonja - the weather widget in clock just shows up Bromley with no weather - tap on it, and it tells me there's no data, yet I swipe down to get to Bromley (again), and it shows full data! Admittedly this is OT, since it was happening on 2.1 as well as 2.2, but has anyone got a remedy?

Ive had my CPW unlocked unbranded desire for around 3 weeks and got the 2.2 update yesterday. I've had a not so great experience:

1) The scrolling in the browsers seems a bit more laggy or slower (maybe thats on purpose, it might have been scrolling too fast before)

2) 720p recording is awful, it really shouldnt have been enabled IMO

3) Calendar Exchange sync messed up. Had to reset to factory settings (which in turn resulted in me re-installing all apps)

Can't really see any positives yet. The phone works just as well as it did in 2.1 (and thats a very good thing!)

I've had problems with the APN settings - these are used by the phone to access the internet and for MMS picture message sending. I'm on giffgaff which uses O2 as a carrier but you can't use the O2 APN settings for giffgaff, even though the phone offered them to me when I rebooted after installing 2.2.

So I tried to install the saved APN settings from 2.1 by using the app APN BACKUP & RESTORE - this is the app I'd used to save the settings in 2.1. However this seemed to upset the phone as it then wouldn't let me into APN settings at all - it came up with an error message saying that com.android.settings had closed unexpectedly. And it couldn't connect to the internet.

The answer in the end was to delete all APN settings using APN BACKUP & RESTORE and enter them manually from here :

Definitive APN Settings list. - The giffgaff community

which is what I'd done originally with 2.1.

Perhaps other users of APN BACKUP & RESTORE have had problems with the saved 2.1 APN settings not working with 2.2?

BTW, not an advert but very happy with giffgaff - completely unlimited texts and completely free mobile internet (no cap) - pity tethering isn't allowed! ;)

Unh.

My unbranded 3 week old Desire got offered the Fro Yo update today.

Upon any power on event I'm now subject to android.process.acore errors, with no option but a forced close. They also happen on 1-2 of the other home screens, and the notification screen.

On the upside, issues I had with peoples names and contact details (especially mobile numbers) not being fully displayed in 2.1 seem to have been fixed.

No real problems here on 3 unbranded other that the APN needed re-enabling. Other stuff was just app compatibility.

One thing I have noticed is they seem to have fixed the bug where if you had you finger on the touchscreen before pressing the power button all it needed was a wiggle of your finger to unlock. I've now uninstalled Call Confirm so hopefully no more call from my pocket :D

Updated to Froyo (2.2) yesterday evening to my unbranded (sim free) Desire.

Wifi reception much stronger.

Able to transfer 5 of my 28 apps to my SD Card.

Is anyone elses video recorder started playing up since the update? I enabled 720p but whenever I try to record something the screen goes black then it'll go to camera but I am unable to start a recording but I still get a display but no options to record etc.

Just rebooted and it seems I can initiate a recording but cannot stop it.

and video playback is terribly slow. I can't view videos as the screen just turns black.

Any Virgin Mobile Desires got the update??

Not that i know of, well i havent received any yet.

I have rooted my virgin desire though so im not sure if that means i wont get the update or not - I am still running the stock Rom (1.15.....) so hoping i will just get the update like everyone else.

I think battery life is quite a bit worse than before, anyone else notice this? Its only been awake for 1 hour 24 mins and its at 30% battery, nothing heavy running just (wifi) , gps off etc, perhaps the extra wifi strength is at the expense of the battery??

Is the 720p recoding really that bad. I havent had a chance to test yet but i havent seen anyone impressed by it yet.

Read through the battery section of the Encyclopaedia thread at the top of the forum, and use the information to check if anything specific is eating your battery.

I think you will. I have been ignoring an upgrade to 1.21 for just over a month and updates today didn't show 2.2 I've just done the upgrade to 1.21, checked again and now the 2.2 upgrade has been offered.

I've got a branded Orange Desire with the following:

Firmware: 2.1-update1
Build number: 1.15.61.10 CL155070 release-keys
Software number: 1.15.61.10

Now I know This is locked down, but two questions:

1) Will I automatically (eventually) get FroYo as an OTA update (manually searched for or otherwise...) or will I have to update something first?

2) If I have to update something first (software to 1.21?) how the heck do I do that?!?

Thanks in advance!

How do you get USB tethering to work? When I select this option on the Desire, the computer can't find a suitable driver. I'm running Win7 x64.

Well just incase no one else has already posted this (many apologies if so) but T-Mobile UK just sent me the following through their help twitter channel.

Hi Mike, we will be serving up some frozen yogurt for the HTC Desire in September :-)

I'm running Windows 7 64Bit as well and appears to work fine. Installed a driver automatically "HTC Remote NDIS based device" might have overwritten another driver as well as I think I saw 2 but perhaps not.

After the driver installed it automatically created "Network 2".

Hope this helps a bit.

Something definitely wrong there. I can record without problems and play back. I haven't really pushe it yet but I suspect the frame rate isn't particularly fast - probably not 30fps) but details is good and it doesn't go fuzzy when there is a lot of action. So far, all things considered, I'm pleased with the 720HD mode, and playback.
