Do you know how long they have advertised the new firmware. Why advertise if you take ages, granted it isnt all to blame on HTC, but seriously with htc track record... we dont want the hero saga again.

Can't say I've seen or heard HTC advertise it at all.
Actually, can't say I've seen/heard Google advertise it either
(Although, to be fair, I don't watch much TV/read many mags, so maybe they have)

Im pretty sure i saw an android/htc ad the other day. I cant be 100% sure as i was driving at the time, but it looked like the desire.

I have no idea what you are talking about! Who said anything about replacing iPhone? I am just saying in a year there will be lots of goods phones to chose from.

I agree with you that evo seems better than iPhone 4. But I was talking about iPhone 5 due for release next June.

If anyone gone confused by the randomness of my statement before edit - it was due to our beloved predictive text function of Desire.

I quoted the wrong post. obviously, i meant to quote the post you were responding to when i quoted you... oops:o

A contact I made with someone at sprint said he was on a conference call where they were being told it shouldn't be expected until NOVEMBER! I really have my fingers crossed for that to be a attempt to lower expectations, as opposed to being changes made after the last HTC OTA that was brickin' peeps

The thing is, as soon as they release 2.2 they'll be releasing new, higher spec phones with v3 on out of the box.

heard from some internal sources that 2.2. will be on Desire within the month.

Others have heard from official sources that it will be in August. Until it's announced officially, we don't know when FroYo is coming to the Desire.

I've been looking for the reply I got from HTC on FROYO and can't find it. However it was from them and said 3rd quarter of this year. If they make that time frame it will be great.

I emailed HTC about this a couple of weeks ago, here is their reply.....

Ok I got a reply from them after asking some serious questions. here is tje reply: Dear azz,

Hello
Thanks for contacting HTC about the update, i can not arrange for a HTC Developer in taiwan to personally answer you email, sorry.

so if you dont mind i would like to.
im sure you know that Google are now pushing the 2.2 to the nexus one's starting from last Monday, HTC cant not hope to get HTC Sense (along with the other apps we include) installed and tested across every European model type (of desire)the same day as Google release Android on its own.

There will always be a delay from Google releasing an update and HTC releasing it any handset that has HTC Sense.
I hope you understand we can not just push a update out with a old (or new) version of HTC Sense with out testing it (and of course inbedding it in to the rom).

PS regarding the installing the apps on to the internal memory only, i can not comment on this other than saying it was not us.

PPS Regarding the release date of 2.2, i can not give a date for release for two reason, 1 I cant know when testing is finished.
2, the updates are OTA, and are done in block order, so that we can keep the servers stable, which often takes place over a two week period (pending on how many phones have been sold, which for the desire is quite a lot)

Regards
Gary

Well I don't know what to make of it. All we know is we ate very close to the update.

Looks like a very, very early build has found its way into the hands of one of the devs over on XDA.

He's not uploading it in its current state because apparently some apps aren't working yet, but 720p video seems to be enabled (not sure if this is his work or HTC's work).

Also, it's watermarked so if he's a tester or if he got it from somebody who is a tester, releasing it with the watermarks could cause them some legal trouble...

and before anybody starts in on authenticity, he's a moderator on xda with over a thousand posts and apparently has been known to get his hands on early software builds for various phones over the years...

What's new compared to 1.21?

* System upgraded to Android 2.2 Fr

should also note that FRF85B is not the latest version of 2.2...

Wonder if the radio update in that can be used to solve the echo/white noise on the current froyo roms. Pretty cool it has 720p too.

Nice to know HTC are working on it though!

Yeah. Will be keeping an eye on xda over the next week or two. As soon as a decent version leaks I'm installing it.

There was almost no difference between the 1.21 leak and the final version that went OTA two or three weeks later. Why wait for HTC to test them when we can do it ourselves...
