No offense but you should send your desire back and ask for a new one because mine does that and with apps running on the back.

I thought navigating between screens looked a little smoother and it appeared a bit more responsive to me.

yeah it did but the phone was pretty much bare blank. tbh i'm not expecting a 'zomg mega speed blink if you miss it speed increase' because as it is, it's pretty fast already and i don't want to hype it up, only to not notice much improvement. the way ppl are going on about 2.2 as if it's like a completely new revamp.

i'm just looking forward to apps2sd, more stableness (sms force closing being the biggest bug for me) and 720p recording. regarding the latter, i know ppl say 720p will be overrated unless the frames rate is improved; my question is, is this possible through a software update? i.e is the hardware is good enough already?

i get laggy frame rates on video on my phone right now with 800 X 480, so i use 640 x 480 which is more bearable. it's much much better when outside in full daylight of course but indoor lighting makes the lag more apparent.

i'm not sure if it's because of the standard 4gb class 2 sd card i use though..anyone use a class 6? is the lag still the same?

Okay can someone explain to me HOW these updates work?

I keep hearing talk of other manufactures releasing 2.2 soon, but NOT HTC. What I don't get is why 2.2 will already work with some phones but not others. It's only the operating system, so surely once it's working on one 'droid phone, it should work on them all.

You don't see Microsoft say, "Okay so we're releasing Windows 7 next month, but it will only work on Compaq PC's. Dell owners will have to wait another 6 months for their version to work." Is the internal architecture of different 'droid phones so diverse that some manufacturers can't use 2.2 till they've done some internal upgrades to their own firmware?

I REALLY don't understand how 2.2 can only work on certain makes, but others have to wait.

Andy

At lease your waiting for an update. My moment is 8 months old and they said their not taking it to 2.2. It took 8 months of waiting to get the 2.1 update, which they stated would come out in January when I bought the phone. I was waiting the entire time to get the adobe and now when it comes out they said it will only be for 2.2 and some 2.1 but not mine. I know things are outdated when you get them but when they stop updating them it really bites.

That DOES suck. Bad customer support there. :(

The browser is much faster in my froyo build, as is general opening/closing of apps and navigating through different apps.

I presume you're running stock Android on a rooted Desire, right?

Think this will be possible with 3.0? (I kinda doubt we'll see an official HTC version)

Sounds promising lekky

So, when you're in the photo album (for example) and you want to share via twitter - the transition is much faster?

The christmass line was taken out of context. The original interview is, in fact, much more optimistic (it states that we probably won't have to wait as long as it was the case with 1.6 to 2.1) and christmas was mentioned while talking about gingerbread. Read the whole interview here HTC explains why Android 2.2: Froyo updates are slow to arrive - Pocket-lint

Actually thats a fair interview. Also it does point out that it's not just the Sense UI that they are updating/checking but all of their (mostly very good) apps and widgets which would explain the extended wait. Just wish they'd said something official a bit sooner.

Given that I'll have this phone for at least the next 18 months I'm quite happy to wait a bit longer for what sounds like a huge update for the phone

The problem, though, is that the SDK has been out for a while, so HTC should have been testing the software since then (late May, early June, was it?). So, this seems like a huge excuse to be lazy, to me.

be nice when froyo actually arrives however they could have done summit with sense ie homescreen kinda got depressed when noticed same old screen

So, Lekky, how about that "stock froyo on desire" guide? :)

Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk

Just follow his root guide here and change the end so you flash a froyo rom of your choosing instead.

It's a really good guide, I followed it myself so it must be simple! ;)

Everything that is In that video can be done with your desire now I think its a lie

Wifi hotspot? - nope
Car dock screen? - nope
720p recording? -nope

Looks like a Froyo build to me!

So what do people calling me pessimistic about the Froyo on Desire say now? I said:

1. Foroyo will be on Desire in 2011 - Correct!
2. Gingerbread will be out before Desire gets Froyo - Correct!

I knew this as this makes commercial sense. HTC Sense. Any way my contract will only run for 6 months in 2011. So to bigger and better things....

So who here is running the froyo rom from xda? Thinking if giving it a go but have two questions:

1) can anyone confirm the 720p recording works?

2) I'm running modaco r3.1 currently so how best to back up apps/sms/stuff then flash froyo then restore my stuff?

Sheshnag sorry to inform you but it is 99% official it will be out by Christmas which is I'm afraid before 2011. And gingerbread is due for release 2011 Q1 which is after Christmas I think you may be wrong there.. so bigger and better things will be coming in 2011 shame you won't have an Android desire then. Please correct me if you feel I am wrong..
