Will the froyo update be available for all countries?

My Desire is the UK non-3G version but I am using it in Panama. I probably have the only HTC desire in here, we are only 3 million people and HTC phones are NOT sold in stores.

I cannot even get google maps which is the saddest thing.

This is one thing I cant agree.. One guy in a senior position company tweeting some nonsense..How can a company such as HTC allow this???? Its either a cheap game they are playing or in between something happened with the update....

Jeez.... Such harsh words! HTC is bringing the 2.2 update (most likely) before any other company. All that talk how HTC sucks and how Samsung and Moto rock and how they will get Froyo first (as if that would matter, really), all that talk how HTC is holding out on upgrading because of their new phone models, all that whining and crying and all that "it's not coming till Christmas" talk.... And now they are going ahead of everyone else but still it's not enough! I want it today! Today, I tell you! They are making us wait! Cheap game! Guys at xda developers did it in, like, a day and HTC needs several months! They suck! :))

For some time, I've been following the news about other companies a bit (Nokia, Moto, Sammy, SE), trust me, in this industry - one overzealous employee tweeting something that turns out to be slightly false is NOTHING.

Just be patient, it will come. And if you can't be patient - rooting and putting a 2.2 ROM (there is even an official HTC ROM out there) takes, what, 5 clicks of a mouse? Either root or wait. I'm sure where there's smoke, there's fire - it'll come out soon.

Also, please remember to read the fine print. They said they would start in holland yesterday. They also said that only a hand full of people would receive it yesterday due to bandwith limitations.

They never said everyone over the whole wide world would have it yesterday. So stop the useless whining.....

Although I am eagerly waiting 2.2 I am not unhappy with 2.1.

I do not mind waiting as I would rather HTC take the time to get things right rather than rush things out into the market (take note Steve Jobs).

It took HTC the best part of a year in the end to get 2.1 to the early Hero adopters, so we should have an open mind for 2.2 on the Desire.

Twitter accounts can be compromised. If youre relying on this to deliver something official, then you'll easily be drawn in by hoaxers and rumours.

I agree that the twitter accounts can be compromised but in this case, the person himself tweeted... I was just saying out that he should be responsible for what he says... If I am tweeting some thing then I will be responsible for it... so if he is tweeting some thing then he is responsible for what he tweets but in this case he is tweeting some thing that concerns his company. Either the company should be taking action against him for tweeting official matters or it should release its own press release regaridng the same... Well i am really frustrated with whats gng all aorund.... i was thinking like the htc froyo wil be coming only by december but this news gave false hope to me..... thats y this blurtant outpour....

Can u name or say abt a single person who got the official froyo update in holland??

Here's a little question...

I have an unlocked, un-branded Desire on the T-mobile network in the UK. Where do firmware updates come from? HTC's server somewhere?

I guess that with a network-branded phone, the network itself hosts the update ROMs and wotnot, but for the unbranded masses...

Cheers
Charlie

I agree that we shouldn't knock HTC. The Sense skin will take some time to update for 2.2. Remember that Sony have put a similar type of skin over their Xperia phones and they are running Android 1.6 with a promise to update to 2.1 in Q4! HTC don't look to shabby in that light...

WOW!! You sound really distressed mate!
Look, if you are that impatient to wait for 2.2, then go ahead and root your phone, there are a good lot of froyo with/without sense roms to choose from. There is just no need for your vitriol towards HTC really is there? if you was so desperate for 2.2 why didnt you wait and buy a 2.2 device they should be here by Christmas.

calm down a little mate.

The vast majority of smartphone users don't post on forums. You can see this by looking at how many members there are per each fan forum vs. how many sales of said smartphone.

Therefore, lots of people could have gotten the update but not posted about it.

@desirablehtc he he.... if i want froyo that badly surely i wil go for rooting its just like i want to get the official update...then only thing thats currently discturbing me in 2.1 is the pace issue... apart frm it am really enjoying my desire.... :)

Chill your boots people it will be here when its here :D

Damn coming from Nokia makes HTC look like nuns. They sent their phones out completely unusable and then made you with 6 months for an update to make it usable.

this phone is great out of the box, sure tethering and APS2SD would be great but its coming.

"The Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for HTC Desire will start rolling out across Europe this weekend," said HTC in a statement. "As well as including the complete set of Android 2.2 features, the update will contain a few special additions of our own through the latest iteration of HTC Sense."
"The update will provide 720p video capture, HTC's App Share widget, as well as our enhanced HTC Caller ID, and improved multi-language keyboard. Also, though the update, HTC Sync will allow HTC Desire users to sync their music with iTunes."

does sound good, but I bet O2 take their time releasing their version... all they have done to 2.1 is add a splash screen on boot, but it wouldnt surprise me if they shoe horn some other stuff into 2.2. hope not. Anyway, good to see its coming soon.

Well, exactly, mines Vodafone, but there is nothing obvious about the phone that says Vodafone, so I can only assume it's the preset sms, mms, configuration. Surely it can't take long to put those into the generic 2.2 and send it out?

Easy there CarsnGadgets, boot logo, wallpaper AND ringtone! :D

As soon as this is getting pushed onto unlocked Desires, I'm gonna start badgering O2 :)
