just did the update and all working well so far including GPS.

Updated to Android 2.2 at least a week ago. Such a fuss going on don't know whether it was pulled or at patch is already being worked on. Only issue I have is that data netwrok does not automatically kcik-in when out of range of wi-fi. Will connect manually though,

just got an reply to an email from HTC about the 2.2 update.

Thank you for contacting HTC In regards to your HTC If you have a Desire HTC branded you will receive the ROM update, unfortunately we don't know the release date for all the devices. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our Contactus site using your email address and your ticket number
So it looks like it hasn't been pulled and what people were saying about them doing the update in batches are true. Also HTC seem to have really bad grammar :P

Well, i'm not sure whether to wait for the OTA or manually update it, anyone know of any disadvantages of manually updating it?

EDIT: Just checked for updates and its now installing the update, they really should have had a different message for the people who've had to wait, would have saved a lot of confusion

I just got the message on my unbranded/unlocked Desire to update to 2.2. My device is currently rooted and I am curious if I will lose the tethering capability. I read somewhere that some 2.2 devices may not have that feature? That is probably one of the most important features to me and would hate to lose it. Can anyone advise?

I'm assuming that I will lose my root upon updating - but I'm not so sure I will have a need to root after 2.2.

Oh, whoops just realized I'll have to unroot to install the OTA update. Will think about this some more.

For speech-to-text, I tried to make settings, but do not see "Android keyboard", to select, and accordingly, I do not see microphone sign in my keyboard. When I go to "Language & Keyboard", I only see two selection (select language + Touch input). So I can not use text-t0-speech, unless only in google search (that microphone pops up). Please help me (My phone: hC desire, Android 2.2). Thanks

A couple of questions about the update:

1) Is it correct that Bluetooth voice dialling isn't there?
2) Has proxy server support been added?

regards,
/alan

My O2 Desire showed that the 2.2 update was available yesterday (9 Aug) at 5pm. Downloaded & installed it today. Had to remove about 10Mb of applications from my phone to make approx 25Mb available for the update. But it's looking good. Not very obvious what had changed but this guide on the 2.2 update is worth reading.:)

Still waiting on an o2 version *sigh* on 2.1 update1 but playing about with the ADW Launcher is fun :)

Vodafone have done a u-turn:

"We’ve listened to feedback from customers on a number of points around the recent 360 Android 2.1 update and made some changes to the roll out plan.

The Android 2.2 update for Vodafone HTC Desire users will be based on the HTC open market version of the software and we will customise it to ensure our network settings are installed.

For customers who have downloaded the recent 360 update for Android 2.1, we can confirm that the Android 2.2 update will remove the 360 applications and will leave the homepage and bookmarks on your current settings.

Customers who want to access the 360 services will be able to do so once the Android 2.2 compatible version is available and, in the meantime, can now download apps like 360 People from the Android Marketplace.

We plan to make the 360 apps available in a separate update for the HTC Desire at a later date, giving customers the choice to download it.

We will let you know when the date for delivery of the Android 2.2 update is finalised, but, subject to testing, we expect this to be in 7-10 days time."

Any help please for "Stock Android Keyboard" ? Where to download ?!
I can not find it in my newly made Android 2.2 (on desire), hence can not find microphone...; Please !

Call me cynical but they've been caught out by the fuss, and used good PR to their advantage. Steve Jobs would be proud!

They've added 360 to the Desire and rolled out the update; and people didn't like it.

They're rolling out 2.2 and fully intend to add 360 to that too - but now they know that won't go down well. So, they say they're taking it off the 2.2 update (chances are, it's because they need to roll out the standard version produced by HTC to avoid delay - which will also see them slated) and will then roll-out a 2.2update<n> shortly after, which will have it integrated whether you like it or not.

They say people can choose - but most people will update when they see an update offered (as they did this time around). So, wait for the next s**tstorm in the coming months...!

EDIT 2!: ok right, done some looking around and found a version that works:

Download and install the HTC_IMEhi22.apk
Go to Settings, 'Language & keyboard' and tick 'HTC_IME mod
hold down in an input box and select 'Input Method' from the popup.
Select 'HTC_IME mod'.

not sure what the clicker_hi.apk does, it doesnt seem to install for me.

You should not install the clicker on Sense Devices due to a conflict. Clicker should only be installed with the mod when running a stock 2.2 ROM without sense.

Think I might bite the bullet and install the 2.2 OTA update.

I'm wondering whether to also just factory reset the unit before installing 2.2 to give it the best chance of applying without any weird issues. Seems quite a few people have had to factory reset anyway to cure minor issues so maybe just do it before the update anyway?

Can any other fellow O2 Desire owners (I have one of the earlier unlocked versions) confirm this? I have been patiently waiting for O2 to deliver. Com'on already..

Hi,

HTC have recommended backing up before installing 2.2

but what do they mean by this, I thought the phone automatically backed up settings, etc, to the SD card. What should I be backing up before I install 2.2?

thanks

I think they just mean to check its not been disabled before you upgrade.
IIRC its in Menu --> Settings --> Privacy

I have an unlocked, unbranded, un-rooted HTC Desire on 3 and have just received the 2.2 upgrade OTA today. Now upgraded to v2.09.405.8 Quadrant Standard benchmark shows result of 1158 - just below Nexus One 2.2+ I have WiFi coonectivity but not 3G although the network shows usual phone connectivity to 3 network. Tried rebooting and reseting network data connections etc. but still have no 3G.

Checked your APN settings?
