Froyo coming to Voda.

In the next ten days Vodafone UK will make an update available to Desire users which will upgrade their handsets to the next version of the Android OS, called Froyo.

Vodafone issues real Froyo update for HTC Desire ? The Register

"For customers who have downloaded the recent 360 update for Android 2.1, we can confirm that the Android 2.2 update will remove the 360 applications and will leave the homepage and bookmarks on your current settings."

Here's a weird situation. Two people buy the exact same contract from CPW only a few days apart. On receipt of their phones, One gets the option to update to Froyo the other doesnt. Both phones are unbranded and unlocked and had the same software on each.

Now either HTC have pulled/changed the update, or there is something weird going on here??

I suggested Root but they dont want to mess with them, so, can anyone shed any light on this? Why would two seemingly identical phones be "different"?

There is a 1.21.......rom kicking about, its the one i used and i got the 2.2 update immediately.

EDIT: http://androidforums.com/htc-desire...anded-my-vodafone-desire-get-2-2-quicker.html

he used the 1.21 update, remember to check that you can do it without ducking up your radio etc. i dont know how that all works but it was fine for me (previous vodafone branded owner)

Interesting, didn't know there was a more recent ROM.

I think the two best bits of advice for a hassle-free flashing and upgrading process are to keep your goldcard in throughout the whole procedure and network-unlock the phone before starting.

As vodafone phones are unlocked, i created my goldcard using the SD card that came with the phone. (Had a new 16gb one). Debranded, turned off turned on, notified of 2.2 update. Downloaded, installed. Removed goldcard. Copied files to new SD and replaced and restored files/apps from backup.

Quick question. If the phone is rooted and upgraded to froyo can you only install dev authorised apps to SD card or can you install any app to SD?

Froyo will only let you move apps to SD in which the developer has allowed this.

There is a setting you can change to allow all apps to be moved, however, which someone posted on here not long ago.

but it doesn't move the cache, which is where most of the space is eaten up with web browser apps and the market place app, in my experience.

Wish I'd known this instead of going straight to Orange. Next time I know who to use.

The downside is that you'll probably get a better deal going directly to Orange, plus I think if you go via CPW then your contract is with them rather than direct with Orange - at least this was the case for me on O2 - which was a right pain at times as I had to go via them for everything and couldn't talk directly to O2.

My 3 mobile Desire got updated to 2.2 this afternoon.
iPlayer crashed on it so I will have to look in to that but the WiFi hotspot is working so happy days.

I have a T-Mobile UK branded Desire regularly check for updates, is there anyone out on T-Mobile UK that HAS got 2.2 without having to root their phone? or possible know if/when T-Mobile UK might be releasing 202? (if it hasn't already been released!)

Thanks
N

Hey guys

just wondering a thing, i wrote this before but it didn't get a reply. If anybody watched google I/O, you would've seen an app that they used to stream music and such directly from the pc and it seemed to work really well. Problem is, its not anywhere to be seen on froyo.

Anyone shed any light?

thanks

linking problem between phone-book contacts to face-book profile.

I don't know if this problem started due to android 2.2 or not but recently I noticed that I am not able to link my new phonebook contact entry to their respective facebook profile. This person exists in my facebook profile but it doesn't show in list of facebook contacts on my phone's phonebook.

Before, automatically phonebook was showing me option to link different accounts.
I tried to link it manually as it didn't work automatically but i couldn't find that same contact in my mobile facebook contacts. I also tried to forced sync facebook contacts but still i couldn't find the person that i just added in my facebook strange!

btw, this person is present in Facebook app's friends list . but not in Facebook for HTC (in phone book contact sync)

do any of you have same problem? is any solution available ?

Since I installed froyo the auto screen brightness doesn't seem to work, it seems to be constantly dark, anyone else this issue?
