Hmm...
Anyone think HTC will bother to stick some other stuff in to the upgrade?...
Maybe the Nexus's animations and 3D launcher...
That would be cool, though I don't think theres going to be any major updates to sense for a while...

Hopefully on 19th 2.2 includes Flash and native apps2sd.
:)
Desire is a new product and is HTC's flagship device in Europe so they should release a update for it.

HTC will release an android equivalent of the HD2 sometime this year. Their will be some improvements around HD video and potentially a 1.5GHZ processor.

The Snapdragon is plenty fast enough for anything I throw at it and is capable of recording 720p video, so I'm not sure I see the point of a faster one just yet :D

i hope they do include apps2sd. This is the only reason i rooted my phone if they do this i will be happy. also to allow us to remove default apps

Any reference for this info?

Me. Heh, nope, sorry I jumped the gun a little, got mixed up in which website I was looking at. I would guess though the earliest will be mid June to coincide with the likely release of Flash 10.1.

However, that will be the be the Google release, so unless HTC have a copy to and are working to put their stuff on top, I would think HTC will release it after.

I thought 2.2 was for Google to take back uniformity of Android, so all bases will be the same, then HTC will simply pump out an update to add on Sense from a vanilla base?

That's what I have read. I do hope they sort out whether to show you a keyboard only input if you password lock is number only. Like the Iphone does!!

Anyone know when would be the Google IO "keynotes" (not sessions) on UK time?

It would be broadcasted via YouTube?

So is the HTC Desire going to get this? :)

edit: Wow I really hope Google do that so we can all get the update at the same time.

2.2 will be out 19th May, however HTC will probably take a few months/Years to tweak it for their phones.

FYP ;)

I hate to be a wet blanket here, but given HTCs absolutely abysmal record of putting out real OS updates for their phones I'm not holding my breath.

Desire is a new product and is HTC's flagship device in Europe so they should release a update for it.

The Hero was a new product, and HTCs flagship device in Europe last year, and still hasn't had any meaningful updates. It's still stuck on 1.5

Sorry to be so negative, but it looks like a lot of people are getting excited about an iminent update to 2.2. All I'm saying is just wait and see. From what I've seen from HTC so far It might not happen on the desire for a long time yet.

Anyone else think they should improve management for battery usage?

Yes.

I've heard 2.2 will focus on performance, but whether that means making the system faster, or improving battery life, or both... I don't know.

I think they could definitely do something about the amount of battery life used up by Cell Standby and Android system.

I have an unlocked, unbranded Desire.. hopefully 2.2 will be available straight away :D

What happens with Android updates though, do you install the OS over the existing OS and keep Sense, all your settings, etc? Or do you have to wipe everything?

I also have an unlocked desire, but in the USA. I'm wondering if I will also be able to get the OTA update?

It will depend on how quickly HTC adapt Sense to Android 2.2. Hopefully they will do it quickly, but I'm hearing there are issues with FroYo's JIT compiling and Sense... can't remember where I read this.

If you ditch the HTC software and flash to a standard android rom, you should be able to get android 2.2 as soon as it becomes available.

Should be the same for the US, since I've read that it's coming to American networks soon (if not already). And, if not, the ROMs will no doubt be available from various sources online and you can always flash them yourself.
