[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

i was at a metro pcs store, in brooklyn new york, I was told that the tapoi edition phone has 2.2, and it is the same exact phone witha different back.....he said metro is releasing the upgrade, via sd card at coorperate locations, they have not decided if it will be free or not
 
I am one of the lucky few that actually has MetroPCS's Corporate Headquarters telephone number in Dallas.

After reading through the forum, I decided to call. I spoke with Tracey L., a Vice President & Regional Manager in Dallas. She told me that the Ascend is supposed to be upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 by the end of April.

However, with me being in the Tampa Bay area, she referred me to Mike Ward, Regional Manager for Florida. I spoke to his assistant who sent me to a Ms. Ramsey. I left a message and told them that I was a freelance reporter looking for a definite answer to this delimma.

Let's see if I get an accurate response...in a timely manner. If not, I still have Mike Ward's telephone number in Ft. Myers. lol

As soon as I get more information, I will post it here first!:D

I have just gotten to the point where I am fed up with Metro. I've been a customer since 2005 and to feel like I'm more knowledgeable than the people who work there is crazy!

My main reason for wanting the OS 2.2 now...other than it's a lot smoother than OS 2.1...is the fact that I am out of phone memory and I need to move my apps to my 8 GB sd card.

I can't stand feeling like I'm being held hostage by any company! And, since Metro no longer gives a trade in for phones, I will not be told that I have to buy the TapouT version of the same phone!

I think that if we all call them, then they would have to listen. I have no problem posting the Corporate telephone number if anyone wants it.

THE DEMAND IS GREAT...BUT WE ARE GREATER!
 
yes im not far from 2 corp office in dallas, and they have the slightest clue on anything...btw welcome to the forum hope you enjoy....

Me too!! LMAO! mainly because I'm not seeing "live wallparers" option anywhere in CM6... Am I missing something? ;)

I pulled this off their website. I may have to go pay them a visit too (I live in Winter Park). And show them CM6 and CM7 and ask why two people in their spare time can get 2.2 and 2.3 running and the company (whether Huawei or Metro) can't do the same.

Well instead of waiting for the update you have some options for a fully functional phone.

You can flash another rom. Icarus, which is a cleaned up version of the stock 2.1 with a2sd which will move all your apps to your sd card, and CM6, which is a 2.2 custom rom based which will move your apps to sd also. Both are fully functional and you can find threads about them in the All-things-root subsection. You can also flash to CM7, which is 2.3, that is almost fully functional. Isaac is still working on it to make it better.

If you want to stay stock there is an app Links2sd which will move some of your apps to your sd card.

I would recommend CM6 or Icarus as they are both fully functional. I've used CM 7 too and like it. But I'm currently running CM6.
 
So yeah ive been readinqq this forumm for a lonq time lol and i wannetd to upgrade my ascend too but i couldnt so i was lookinq it up and i came across this forum and everyone was sayinq they didnt know when the update was going to happen soo recently my phone stoped working and since i have insurance on it i went to trade it in. I asked the lady if there was going to be an upgrade to 2.2 and she said it was going to be in three months.. I just qot the Zio instead

I'm sorry that you made your decision based on an uninformed reps comment. Obviously you missed the many parts about how the reps have no clue. I do hope you enjoy your Zio though. Good luck.

Well i really dont know but yeahh the Zio is preaty good. It has a lot of cool features. But my poor Ascend ... RIP

I think you may be slightly confused between a "Corporate Store" and the Corporate office.

I'm sure there is a corporate store in Orlando somewhere....but there is only ONE Corporate office. The corporate office is also called the Metro PCS Headquarters. It's where the stockholders meet, the President and VPs sit on their butts and basically do nothing. lol

1. Here's the Metro PCS Corporate telephone number for their Headquarters. DO NOT PRESS 1!!! PRESS #2.

Also, if you are going to call them from your cell phone, their system registers that you are calling from a Metro PCS phone and will throw you into the Customer Service Que, dial *67 and then the number. Either that, or call them from a landline.

Be aware that if you dial 0, you will get a "general mailbox" that never gets answered.

I received a call back from my message yesterday.

Apparently...it's the same old song and dance.

They are not looking at the fact that they are holding Ascend owners hostage or the fact that not releasing the OS 2.2 and forcing Ascend owners to purchase the TapouT version of the same phone, is considered extorsion.

I'm still waiting for a definate date. The only thing positive that was said was that WHEN the OS 2.2 comes out, it will be put on the MetroPCS website as a link to download on the SD card, along with instructions. Therefore, saving the customer from a one (1) to two (2) hour wait at a MetroPCS Corporate store.

That's all I have right now. I will update more when I get information.

I found it really funny how the gentleman was very concerned as to what publication I was writing for...;)
 
Havent posted here in a while :D How goes things? Ive been keeping up to date on the metro page and still no news on the update just posts saying " A date is being finalized, We'll let our community know when its coming "
