[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

THX for the words of wisdom/friendly warning.No infringement of copyrighted material intended here,but,definely something for all of us to keep in mind in the future when sharing information.

BTW}

2) As far as the MY BACK-UP,you can use GOOGLE to do the very same back-up.Unless,you just have a preference to use the MY BACK-UP app from CRICKET.Again,if that's the case,I do believe the apps/apks are available here somewhere,just can't remember where exactly. Hopefully,someone'll chime in soon to help you out.

Hi Playful God....I've been following the forums for a couple months now and I'm tired of waiting for an official release..:) You appear to be Omniscient ;) concerning cm7. I'd like to upgrade to cm7 but have never done this with a phone. I am a computer geek, (mcse), so I'm not at a complete loss in grasping this. can you tell me where i can get detailed instruction on backing up my contacts etc., and then step by step how to upgrade from a rooted 2.1? Any direction on this would be greatly appreciated!

no offense but if you are a "computer geek" then you should know where too look by now. even if you have been here for two months. :-) Not being mean just pointing out the suspiciouse. (i think i spelt it wrong)

Please read the threads in the All-Things-Root sub-section about the roms. You're questions should be answered there. It all depends on what you want to do with your phone.

How? Can you provide me with a link to the proper thread? My Ascend for Cricket is UNGODLY slow, esp. with texting and navigating any interface. Like, literally 5=10 seconds after every click. What would be the best solution? 1)Find an 2.2 or 2.3 upgrade (obviously not official) 2)Use app2sd, 3)Root phone, 4)Install Icarus or cm6/cm7

Im not super techy, I can follow instructions but I want my phone to still be easy to use after I play around and do whatever I gotta do to speed it up. Thanks guys

i can say this little device cannot be brick, and the chances of not bricking this phone is 99.9%, but with all the help and guides around here its 100%...
 
I wonder if I should just sell my 2.1 ascend on ebay and buy the new one. Metro is trying to milk us into getting the 'newer' phone...and it's slowly starting to work. :(

So true. Or just switch companies - I believe virgin mobile is doing better than metro right now and it has betters phones and better speed for around the same price in billing as metro.

Another fine example of how smart some of Metro PCS's sales ppl are....

Wife and I stop by a authorized dealer in our local mall. First off dude tries to sell us on the 2 for one deal.... yea the ubber cheap phones lol. Tell em no we're looking at a Android phone for her. He starts babbling about the reg ascend, I go yea I know I have one. He ask, ah really? How do you like it? Is it fast? I replied umm yea after some uh tweaks ;) lol

Then my wife asks after the tapout, he was like uh? the what? No but we have.... and started reaching for some other pofs smart phone, wife says no the tap out edition of the ascend. He goes uhhhh... again and turns around n asks the gal we dealt with b4, she pauses n she umm no we're... no wait we got one left. Wife ask how much out the door. Gal answers $149 +tax but theres a $20 mail in rebate. Dude starts in on some other shyt again n by this time I have completely tuned him out as its obvious he has no clue about any phone they sell lol.

funny that the only thing these ppl knw are the prices of the phones ... just like ppl at cricket.. its so annoying i asked one guy at cricket about the update and he was all like your phones up to date thats y they have they new ascend out .. go figure...:confused:
 
I actually applied for a job at Cricket. I was talking to the manager about phones they had and she had no clue. I bet that's why I didn't get an interview. I knew more than her. I bet she thought her job would be taken by the guy that knows about the phones they sell than she did.

I know what u mean I went to apply for metropcs and I asked the guy what I needed to know about the phones and he said nothing that it doesnt even matter that its all about attracting ppl in to the store... But come on how can u sell a product if u dont know diddly squat about it? Customers want to know what they are buying and what it can do am I right? Please do correct me if im wrong :) I wont mind

Thats how I am, I tend to shun salesmen off if they dont know shyt. And I normally do my homework b4 buying stuff so I usually know more about it than they do lol
 
Companies like Sprint have their employees go through training on every phone they sell. When a new phone comes out, they start training a week before it goes on sale. Companies like Metro and Cricket just don't get it.
