[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

ok so my phone i just updated to 2.2 froyo via metro pcs app store over 16 hrs ago.. al of the sudden my phone decides to shutdown and then restart stay working for a bit, freeze, and reboot again. it does this over and over and over again... i have no clue how to fix it or what caused it to go crazy... ive wipe cache and restored to factory settings, and the re-did the update. any ideas on a fix?
 
Does anyone know a way to root the phone after you have installed the 2.2 update from metro? It wont let me root it now. I had cm7 on my phone but it keeps force closing and im tired of it. Just want to know if anyone has rooted it after the new 2.2 from metro.
 
So, Im sick of the stock notification bar and stock lockscreen on the huawei ascend 2.2.2. Does anyone know or have a guide to changing one or both?

Rooted, 2.2.2, Some bloatware removed, MetroPCS (GhettoPCS. Freakin hate the low signal....)

Install CM7 & use the themes provided to change the look of your phone.You can also download themes for CM7 from the MARKET.

Also search the MARKET for what you're looking for.I believe the app METAMORPH will also aid you in customizing your phone.
 
I am a newer member of this forum but seriously. If you do not want to take the time to read the post recommended you probably aren't going to want to do the steps to complete a successful flash. The ultimate customization thread needs to be read before anyone new continues. It is an awesome resource.


There really is no way to summarize what is said in there as there are multiple options.

I would root your phone, then install PG's latest build.
 
Hello All. I have just signed up and have been using this site as a reference to everything I have done to my Ascend. I flashed to Icarus 1.1 and loved it but after a while it just didnt cut it anymore, especially since the Ascend is 2 versions behind. But, I just wanted to post to say that I finally took the leap and flashed to cm7 2.3.4 06242011 and i am VERY pleased with it. It all around runs smoother and acts like a newer (name brand) phone. I couldnt be more pleased and thanks for everyones help (via posts) along the way. I gotta feeling that this is the ROM I will be keeping for awhile. CM7 is AWSOME so I would suggest that anyone that has the knowledge and ability to utilize this awsome rom, do so. I will not be waiting for cricket to release their 2.2 update anymore. Thanks again!

nope never. For one 3.0 is for tablets, 2 the ui is real graphic intensive which would make the ascend crawl worse than a snail. 3 no dev is gonna waste their time to port it to the ascend.

Currently working on a new build with latest CM 7.1RC1 src. but I am having issues with wifi n bluetooth working. BobZhome has a new build 0701 on RC1 but screenshots has been added since.

do you no which launcher he used was it launcher pro or ADW I really like ADW I think it is a much better launcher
nevermind I found it he say's it is using ADW
one last thing since I am going from 0624 to RC1 all I need to do is the wipes and not the formats

which ever is used will only be the free version which is VERY limited...i think it was adw but i dont remember as i have already removed it and use GO and launcherpro (GO at the moment as LPP hasn't had an update in quite some time)...either buy one from the market or get it from a warez site and use 'System App Remover' to remove anything you don't want...

I saw this a couple of days ago he knows what he is doing just make sure you follow the steps and make sure you have the files on your sd card cuz i had started it and when i got to the last part i didnt have the 2.2 update on there so i had to get out of it (keep in mind i already wiped out all the caches) after that my computer wouldnt read my hpone when i plugged it in my computer anyways i ended up putting my sd card in a card reader and putting the 2.3 on it i like it there are alot of new apps and there is a new pop up screen when you turn your phone on i but if you try to put do this with your phone i want to send you another link onhow to do the cm7 thing cuz the linkyou have he doesn't really explain that very well :cool:

I just got done trying BobZhome version and guess what at first I thought everything was working but than I went and tired to send a mms text and it gets stuck on sending even after applying the metro off it does not work also GPS does not work and data does not work the good news WiFi does work will I restored my backup and using your version 0624 because everything does work

scratch that there is something wrong with metropcs in my area sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't my wife took her phone in to the store and they told her they are working on the problem with there 3g 4g service not working all the time just the last 2 days have been like this I thought I damaged my phone because I ended up taking it back to 2.1 and it still wasn't working. Wifi works great until you need to send a picture text mms it does not work until you turn off wifi and wait around ten minutes for it to get a connection and metro is saying it is on there side and they have been trying to fix it for 2 days now.

The version of ADW in CM7 is build from source and not the apk you get off the market ;)
