Root **Official** Droid X encrypted bootloader and efuse thread

Don't do it...hold out for the X....

Or at least buy it and wait the 30 days to see if anything happens before returning it!

I think I'm gonna wait like 10 days past the release date and then go pick one up. Hopefully during the 30 days I'll have a chance to hear a lot more about the Fascinate and even get my hands on one (aka hopefully if I get the X on the 26th, the Fascinate will be out before August 24th).

Hackers, start your engines! *grabs a bottle of vodka and starts chugging*

I think people need to accept that this phone will not be a phone that will easily be cracked, if ever.

What makes you think will only be a Droid X situation. This will be something that all future Android phones will have is my guess. All carriers will see this as a way to control bandwidth theft, so that they can charge for it.

Patiently/Impatiently waiting for the release of the Droid X!

I love the comment you have at the end of your posts!!!!

Just because the European Galaxy S is rooted doesn't mean that the Fascinate will be quickly. Every company has there own software tweaks that can affect root. Many thought that since the cdma hero was rooted the Eris would use the same method. Same goes for the Desire and Incredible, and don't forget the difference between the Droid and Milestone.

maybe we'll get lucky like we did with the Eris, and someone will drop an engineering rom on us!

because technically the Eris has yet to be cracked

What are the chances someone breaks the lock-down on the HDMI-out that only lets you output "user-generated content" (i.e. only video shot by the camera, not a movie you downloaded)? That would be the main reason I would want to root the X.

Not very good until someone cracks the bootloader. No cracked bootloader means no customer recovery image which means no flashing patches to unlock the use of copyrighted material thru the HDMI slot. :(

+1 but just like the eris, i will get the most out of this phone I can until someone makes progress and then when they do, It'll be like getting a brand new phone all over again. This phone is going to be amazing. Better than anything else verizon is offering (for now). I have made my philosophy on this clear in that I think all phones should be open so we as the actual owner of the device can push the device to its full potential. Some think we should take a stand and speak with our wallets and say we won't support you unless you create a true open platform. I would agree with this in principal, but I have since come the conclusion (after a spirited debate with another forum member) to speak up in another way. I will speaking up by helping to crack this thing. To show them that no matter how hard they try they can't keep us down. After all we are all alike!

this is the best phone out.

the itouch4 is a joke. yes i have used one for a whole evening......never again

I think it really depends on the implementation. If an app has access to the HDMI port, then I wouldn't think that you would even need root access (much less the bootloader) to play what you want through HDMI.

as i attempted in the beginning, this isnt a big deal!
this phone is still HOT out of the box. signed bootloader but we still may be able to get it rooted to take crap off. no sense...no overclocking...but so what!
this phone is still A GREAT PHONE!
but...if you dont like it no more now...GREAT!
raises the chances of me getting one on launch :)

Ya that is F'ing redicuolous to charge 20 bucks on top of an already expensive 30 dollars a month! And it also has a 2gb cap! WOW who in there right minds would buy that service?!?!?!?

Yeah it's a overage trap for sure. If you have 5 devices hooked to that you will easily go over 2 gb and then they hit you with a 50.00 per gb rate. I'll bet its an extra 50.00 even if you only go over by a MB or two also.

its a total rip it would be more useful if they sold it like they did the Verizon navigator. Where you could use it for 24 hours or a month. If they did it that way I'd pay for a day if my home service went out or I was going on a trip I might pay 20.00 for the month. But not every month (well i guess you can change your plan at will so maybe someday I'll add it for a month and then remove it if possible if I have to.) And what's with the 2gb I thought my plan was unlimited?

Well being that I never said anything of the sort...

I know this is about controlling the theft of bandwidth. They have every right. All of the altruistic open platform moaning is BS. People just want to open up the phone to steal bandwidth they don't want to pay for.

YouTube - How To - Load a Custom ROM on the Motorola Milestone (www.TheUnlockr.com)

Loading custom rom on the milestone.. if its anything like the milestone then we should still be able to load roms.

That's not a custom ROM, it's a customized Nandroid backup. In order to make a Nandroid backup for the Milestone, you have to have it actually up and running on the Milestone.

If you could get a different kernel on the Milestone and make a Nandroid backup of it, then, yes, I'd assume we'd more or less be able to flash true custom ROMs with this method.. but Nandroid can only back up what's already there. And since we can't actually get real custom ROMs onto the device, there's no way to back them up to a Nandroid file...

I agree that Verizon should be allowed to put in protections against people abusing their network. Personally, I wish they would just say that the data plan is $30 for 5GB/month and anything over that is a penny per MB. Use the data however you want (tether, hotspot, video chat, whatever). Then have a little app that tracks the monthly data usage and gives a warning at 4GB or 4.5GB or whenever the user wants.
