PocketNow.com put up a nice EVO-HD2-Nexus comparison.

Video: HTC EVO 4G vs. HTC HD2

Few opinions on the vid I have..

-transitions on the HD2 seem much smoother than on any Android device using Sense. Most notable in switching between weather animations and when going into landscape
-I was upset about the lack of amoled when the phone was first announced but got over it. seeing the nexus next to the evo though, man..it really does make a difference. it won't stop me from buying the evo but my next phone after the evo will def have super amoled :)
-I really don't think anyone should really consider using the Evo camera to replace any true dedicated camera. 8 mega pixels is awesome but it really doesn't compare to a true 8mp camera in the long run.

I'll get what I want when I want it I already ordered the EVO I just don't like
paying for something i can't use. They will probably include a Premium data charge to all their phones in the future. Once the sheep accept it, they tend to keep it.We all use things for different purposes, you say you will go way over the cap so $10 is a reasonable sum. I've never come close and don't expect to in the future, on 3G, probably with 4G that will change. Currently they have a cap on 3G no cap on 4G I was happy with that. When 4G is available to me I will pay the $10.
I am going to scare alot of people right now. Just looked at my sprint bill. I have used 4.3 gigs of data on my 2 phones since the first of the month.

Which means I will have about 10 gigs at the end of the month, which is my cap. I have gone way over that number on several times, never been warned or charged for it.

But with facebook, myspace, twitter, youtube, and business apps running, the little blackberry just sucks through it. I am always waiting for something to load, so yes when I get 4g it will be alot more data. I pushed 393 pictures this month to family, friends, and business contacts.

That does not change anything. If you are not going to use the EVO for a ton of data, you might want to wait. You do not have to pay it.

I'm going with BB over RS just because at RS it's upsell city. Good luck buying it and getting in and out in under 30 minutes. Somehow they will try to convince you, you need their service plan with it, which cost 100 dollars a year.

ever heard of no???? first thing I say when they ask is, I'm here for the phone and if you want to keep trying to sell me these upsells you know what, you'll get nothing, cuz I'll walk out and go to the store down the road.... in a friendly but firm way, never have been bothered yet.

Just want to drop in my .02 before everyone complains further. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, the $10 add on is NOT because its a 4G phone. Sprint knows that the majority of us aren't in a 4G covered area, but because the purpose of this device is multimedia along with video chat, people will definitely be using more data than before. It doesn't matter if you were only hitting 500MB or 800MB, you WILL be hitting more data usage per month if you get this phone. HENCE, they are charging you the extra $10 because you WILL be using more data and data heavy apps.

I just want people to stop complaining because they think Sprint is charging the extra fee for 4G, its NOT, its for the increased 3G usage. IF Sprint wanted to charge for 4G, they would only charge users who are covered in 4G areas instead of making it mandatory for ALL Evo users.

This is NOT fact, but my own opinion based on business reasoning.
They can call it what they want but it is for 4G. They are not charging just in 4G areas because right now that is probably only 25% of the country. Right now to the majority of us the EVO is a 3G phone only maybe the best one but 3g only. The HD2 and Incredible are also "multimedia" devices but there aren't any "premium data" charges, YET(if sprint gets away with it others will follow). I don't mind paying for what I use but do not appreciate paying extra for NOTHING>

It's pretty silly that we are discussing one of the greatest cellphones that has the potential to make a large splash, but the internet is buzzing about Sprint's 10$ fee.

Not really. If we both have 1500 minute plans but you only use 100 and I use 1499, we still pay the same price.

Or if we both have "premium" unlimited minutes plans, it's your choice to only use a few hundred a month, whereas I could burn several thousand, and we still pay the same price.

That's a pretty silly comparison. That said person would be an idiot if they didn't lower their plan. That said person HAS THE OPTION to change their plan and continue to have the same service.

As a potential EVO customer and a current Sprint customer, I am not being given that option. I am forced to pay for something I am not receiving.

Because you are using the same hardware as I am. You can watch flash, play online games, streams movies, download songs, watch youtube, and even video conference on a 3g connection.

What you are saying is that I am not getting the speeds as you so that is unfair. What I am saying is that you can do everything I do on 3g and regardless of speeds, you will take up as much data as I will.

A 20 min youtube movie will suck up the same amount of space on a 3g connection as a 4g connection.

You are not paying to get the 4g connection. That is free, you are playing to get an uncapped connection. That is not free.

You see the difference?

You spent all that time typing that out, pat yourself on the back. Some of us don't even have a 3G connection, your argument is moot.

A 20 min youtube movie will suck up the same amount of space on a 3g connection as a 4g connection.

Again your knowledge deserves a pat on the back. /sarcasm
Normal people don't have the time to sit around and wait for youtube videos to download on their slow connection. They just won't watch them or they will view them on a land line.

You are not paying to get the 4g connection. That is free, you are playing to get an uncapped connection. That is not free.
Unlimited isn't really unlimited now is it. What they should have done, and what I suggested back on the previous page is that they should have changed the plans to limited with a 5gig cap plan and an unlimited plan. The TRUE unlimited plan would cost 10$ more.

I have two questions that I hope someone will be able to answer:

1. What is Best Buy's return policy? I've heard mixed reviews of Sprint's coverage in my area, so I want to test the Evo for 30 days to see how strong the signal is. If I preorder through BB, will I still be able to return it within 30 days with no strings attached like Sprint is currently advertising?

2. My wife and I are currently with Verizon. I plan on getting the Evo and if it passes the 30 day test she'll cancel her Verizon account and probably get her own Evo (she won't play guinnea pig because she uses it way too much for work to risk it in her mind). I get a 15% corp discount and she gets a 23% discount. Will I be able to sign up using my 15% discount on an individual plan and then convert to a family plan when she comes over and use her 23% discount or are we stuck with the 15% discount because I signed a two year contract with Sprint?

.

Oh, really? I just subcribed to Sprint TV Xtra which is $9.99.

glad you brought that up....what xtra do u get with the xtra? is it completely everything that sprint tv has to offer?...i've been thinking about doing this when i get the evo seeing as how it will enhance the overall experience on that gorgeous screen...i do want to make sure that the 4g shld resolve all the grainy picture and lags with sprint tv though correct...shld be a flawless experience now correct?

Yes, it has all of the channels that regular Sprint TV has, as well as a couple live channels that aren't avail. on reg. Sprint TV. I subcribed because Fox News Channel (live) was recently added back to the lineup. It works pretty damn well on my Palm Pre, but it should look (and preform) better on the Evo w/ 4G. Eugene is suppose to deploy 4G service on July 1st, according to the Clearwire guy I spoke with the other day! :) Sprint TV - Mobile TV from Sprint

Yes, all of this talk about the $10.00 is getting a bit lon g in the teeth. I hope the idiot who came up with that line of marketing is out the door today.

If Sprint would have come out and said $79.99 for the EVO 4G with everything on it, everyone would be saying " Wow we get all this stuff for only $10 buck more from a regular Sprint plan! " ;););)

I will not have a problem paying the $10 when 4G is available. It is available now to about 25% of the pop. by the end of 2010 they HOPE to have it available to about 40%(120 million). They say I will have it this summer but I also read it may have been delayed. Some people may not get it for a year or more. Unfortunately Sprint has nothing comparable now(HD2, incredible) I could wait for something else but it could be months and I need (WANT:D) a new phone now.

To my experience with BB you should have NO problem/questions, etc with returning the phone to BB. They honor the 30 day guarantee via Sprint, as if they were an actual Sprint dealer.

As for the discount whoever is the account holder is what determines the discount. So if the account is in your name then it will be whatever your company discount is, not hers. However there are two options you can look into: 1) utilize the 30 day guarantee and "RETURN" the equipment and then just setup the account in her name and they will not actually take the equipment back possibly just switch paperwork OR 2) do an account change of ownership and she'll become the account holder and it'll switch the whole account and such into her name via Sprint directly

No you'd still have current subscribers bitching that their plan went up.

I would just sign up the acct originally in her name but you use the phone. if she comes over later you keep the higher discount and if you don't like the phone cancel in 30 days and it would be the same as if it was in your name.

Geegolly.

Let me just try once more. (promise I will drop it after this)

If you and I go to the same dealership, and buy the same lamborghini gallarodi lp 560 spyder (Get yellow).

The top speed of that car is 324km/h or 201 mph.

Now you take your car and go to let say Oregon State. I go to lets say Montana.

Now the speed limit of the car in montana is 75 mph. The speed limit in oregon is 55 mph.

What you are saying is that you should have have to pay the same maintain fee as I do?

That since you go slower with the same car, you should not have to pay for the oil changes, tires, tune ups, and the other 100 things that happen when you own that car? Just trying to understand.

You want to own a sypder, but you think since it can not go 201 mph on any street near you are exempt from maintaining it?

Now I know this is a bad example, but it still true. Because you can drive as fast as you want to does not mean you can not pay taxes or maintain your car. When you registrar that car at the dmv and they charge you the luxury tax, are you going to say, I am not paying that, because I can only drive 55?

The car is what the car is, the phone is what the phone is. If you have to pay to own it you might not want to own it.

You have convinced me 1000 times today :D I did sort it out in my head and I am OK with it... I did do the EVP so I should NOW get a 23% discount on my current bill which nullified the $10.00 for me.. so GAME ON! :D

Interesting - so then the 10 dollar surcharge means that what we are paying for is unlimited data that goes beyond the 5 gig cap. I successfully got retentions to lower my monthly bill when I get the EVO next month by 10 dollars so it's essentially free for me, but that at least makes sense as to why it's on the EVO.

Good post in that it's somehting EVO releated, thanks..

I could poke holes through that every which way and sideways, but its getting boring :p
I moaned to retentions and I got what I wanted without to much hassle. With little resistance from them and such a huge buzz on the Internet about this 10$ fee, I'd be surprised if they don't reevaluate things.

This is a completely irrelevant example. You have a choice as to fast you drive or where you drive. I can not use 4G if I want to it DOES NOT EXIST WHERE I LIVE OR WORK I agree this is getting silly already. Enjoy the phone and eat up all the gb's you can, At least I know my $10 will be supporting a FRIEND.

haha this is completely useless the car will still go 201 its your risk if you want to drive it at that speed and get cought, but the eve doesn't even have the option to ever run at 4g even if it wanted to in my area. BIG BIG DIFFERENCE, also you buy a car for what it is and not how fast it goes but the $10 add on is pretty much strictly due to 4G, sprint just doesn't want to come out and say it cause even more people will complain then.

Woooo jus got back from Best Buy, pre-ordered the phone. Lol there was no one there, and the paper he wrote me down on, I was the third person, and my appointment is at 11 am. I thought me being the 3rd person on that paper was pretty funny with all the hype about this phone, then again that could have been the second or third piece of paper :P.

Just for those wondering about the $10 upcharge on a family plan, per my chat with a Sprint representative on their website, the charge is definitely per phone, not per plan. Here's the transcript:
Sprint said:
ME: one more question- is the $10 EVO extra charge a per-phone charge, or is it per plan? In other words, since I'm on a shared plan, if two of my phones upgraded to the EVO, would I have to pay the $10 extra for each phone, or just once for the plan?
SPRINT GUY: I appreciate your continued patience. I am still researching this issue for you.
ME ok
SPRINT GUY: I am showing that the extra $10.00 charge would be per EVO device on the account.
(I edited names)

Can we all stop this $10 a month talk? Its moot since it won't make a sliver of difference. The horse is beyond dead if there is even such a thing. You either get it and pay it or not pay it and don't get it. Its amazing how after months of rumors and speculations and BS, the bans, the on probations and all the trolling in the world and Sprint FINALLY drops the info like you all wanted and all you can talk about is something that can't be changed. Somethings will never change.
