Do you really need to pre-order this phone like today or tomorrow?

What if I wait until next Friday, for example, won't I get the same treatment of people pre-ordering on the 1st-2nd day?

Most likely, yes. They will order at least enough for the pre-orders. If you want to pre-order, you should be fine until the 31st at the latest.

If you just renewed your contract, didn't you just sign away your subsidies when the EVO comes out?

No, I am currently not on a data plan so she applied the revolving monthly credit to my account and that lasts for the full two years of my contract. When I get the phone next month, I will upgrade to the Evo plan but my $10 monthly credit still continues along with my EVP discount as well.
To be clear, the $10 revolving credit is just something added to my plan for renewing the contract and not specifically tied to the EVO $10 monthly surcharge. I still have my $150 phone subsidy on my account as well, which I will use when the phone becomes available on the 4th. Hope that helps.

FYI - Just got back from placing my pre-order at the Best Buy closest to my work. The store rep told me that the pre-order guarantees me a phone on the release date, but they'll be calling me on my cell to set up an appointment time for pickup.

Only thing that concerns me is, that's a Friday and I've got Friday meetings at 10am, so I'm hoping they'll give me choices that'll be later in the day. I'm gonna try to call them to see if I can schedule the pickup now, rather than having to wait.

I wonder if the Sprint Retention Reps will be so kind and waive the $10 fee if you are still on contract and you are just eligible for the 1 year upgrade because of the premier program.......I seriously doubt it:(

For the people pre-ordering in Best Buy. Are you signing contract? Do you have to fill out a paper? application?

How does the process work, Ive read countless of people saying they have pre-ordered, but not a single one have said exactly what was the process.

It was easy, i went in said i want to reserve the evo -- she gave me a paper that reqeusted my phone number, name, address and that was it and then I paid the $50.00 bucks -- no contract to sign

Not entirely sure how that works but could you ask for a new two-year agreement, starting now, and a monthly discount?

$50.00 + tax?

I read they give you a gift card?

If you really want to make a statement, be quiet, and don't buy the phone. Every cell company does it... Sure it was for the phone we all happened to want, but I've paid 440$ + for a phone before... Show them you're not willing to pay, don't keep it In our ears... Im slightly annoyed by it, but it is worth it to me (currently on a share plan w verizon so my price is doubling per month...)

Well to get the upgrade you have to sign a new 2 year contract - it's part of the deal -- I just am not sure if the retention reps will be as generous to those that are still on contract

Yes, good point. I will say the rep was very forthcoming with the $10 monthly discount. She said she would have given me $20/month off but that promotion ended and they are doing $10 now. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask. Good luck at any rate.

I could poke holes through that every which way and sideways, but its getting boring :p
I moaned to retentions and I got what I wanted without to much hassle. With little resistance from them and such a huge buzz on the Internet about this 10$ fee, I'd be surprised if they don't reevaluate things.

Amen on poking holes. That was the most illogical logic I have seen in a while. I had the reply window out, but decided to leave it be. BTW, I have no probs with the $10, but that doesn't mean I won't hit up retentions to try to avoid it.

I'm a little relieved now. The Best Buy I chose to do my pre-order at doesn't set appointments until the day they actually receive the units in stock (Mobile manager just told me on the phone, they'll probably receive them 2-3 days prior to actual release date). Once they receive them, they'll call each person on their pre-order list to set up appointment times for pickup.

Good news is, I'm #7 on the list (so I doubt that I'll have to worry about a pickup time, since it's a pretty big Best Buy). At first, they had told me I would get pushed back on the list if I can't make the appointment times they offer me, but the manager verified that if I can't make any of the pickup times they have available, they'll hold the phone for 2 days for me to pick up anytime after the release day!

$50.00 + tax?

I read they give you a gift card?

Just to clarify, the gift card is given so you can use that towards the purchase of the phone.

Does anybody know if they account for the extra tax you pay for the gift card or are you basically eating the extra money paid cuz of the tax on the gift card? Just wondering because for me, it's an extra $5 (approx.). No big deal to me, just curious.

Guys please. There are at least two other threads on the 10$ fee. And there's a Poll! Wow! Please take it there.......

Does anyone have anymore info on 2 way video chat? Specifically, if the streaming will down grade on 3 g or if it's the same on wifi/4g?

Ty

but you don't have to use it on the phone.. GC is active that day on anything at Best Buy or Bestbuy.com:)

Thanks. I wasn't sure 'bout that or not. You quoted before I edited by post, but do you know if they account for the tax you paid on the gift card (towards the purchase of your phone) or is it basically lost money (e.g. extra $4.98 for me). No biggie. Just curious.

On the phone with retentions line now........and they said they would take $10 off now FOR 24 MONTHS and I would still be elgible for my upgrade -- REMEMBER I STILL HAVE A CONTRACT WITH THEM WITH 1 YEAR LEFT!!! IF I WAS YOU I WOULD CALL!!!

Ok I have one question (that BSOD might be able to answer) Will the Teather programs in tha app market allow you to usb tether the evo to your computer over the 4g network. the only reason I ask is b/c I dont need to tether 8 computers, just my lap top SOMETIMES when I'm at work (night club w/ no wifi access in the DJ booth). I know alot of people have use those programs in the past, but will they work with 4g? (like USBnet and so on)
