Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Agreed. My plan was to just call them once I get the Evo and see what they can do for me--I'm porting over from ATT. Also, does anyone know about this $100 porting credit I keep hearing about? I've already pre-ordered the phone through BB. :)

I spoke to an EVP rep today and asked about the port credit. It is only available for business accounts. The term they used is "corporate-liable." Of course, that's just what I was told. Who knows, there could be other versions of the truth out there. :)

I just got back from my pre-order experience...2 issues:

1. I filled everything out and paid for the $50 gift card + tax ~ $54 in NYC. Then after all that she told me that my phone would be ready June 5th!

I said, then why would I pre-order, why wouldn't I just wait in line in the store on June 4? She said, because Sprint has a mail-in rebate, we have an instant rebate. That is worth it to me. She also said it might come in early so I'd likely get it the 4th.

2. I paid tax on the gift card, so the amount on the gift card is $54. If when we go to pick up the phone they plug in 199.99 in the register and it puts tax on that, around 18-19 bucks, and I use the gift card to pay for it, I'm effectively paying tax on the whole phone as well as on the $50 I already paid, so I'm paying double taxes.

Just make sure when you go in that this doesn't happen to you. It's a sneaky way they can make an extra 3-5 bucks per phone.

but, you paid 54 bucks today. when they ring up the phone, it'll be purchase price + tax - $54. it's the same, right?

however, you shouldn't be paying tax on gift cards. that'd be like you giving me $54 and me giving you a $50 bill. you walked outta there with a $54 gift card, right?

I got charged tax too. The guy said to just bring the receipt when I come to pick up the phone, and he will deduct the tax from the final sale price.

as long as they deduct on june 4th what you paid today, no scam involved. however, if you walked out of the store with a piece of plastic that says "best buy" and "50" on it, and you paid $54 for it, there's a problem.

you're right purchase price + tax - 54 = is correct.

brain fart sorry.

1st one in line this morning...but about 6-7 people behind me pre ordering, we all paid $50 even for gift card dont know law where your at but in kansas never tax on gift card. because your right that would be double tax

^^Might be another sign that Sprint lost a lot of would-be customers with the $10 more per month shenanigans...

I wouldn't call a handful of people on a message board "a lot of would-be customers" 99% of sprint customers don't even know about the Evo and won't know til AFTER launch day.

Why do people think that members of message boards make up Sprint's customer base?

EVEN if 1000 people are not going to buy the Evo because of whatever that is 0.1% of 1 million people and Sprint has more customers than that, just to put some things in perspective. So probably 99.9% don't even know about the Evo til after launch day.

Just like most of us are not auto geeks, when a certain new high tech part comes out for BMW, or Audi, who but the auto geeks on auto message boards would know about it?

Again, these message boards aren't even big enough to make up the minority.

Just wanted to throw this out there, I just spoke with my local BB and inquired regarding the whole "extra $20 accessory credit at RS" and the lady I spoke with informed me that it was a special right that RS had worked out with Sprint.

So I am pondering this, and be it speculation only, my own thoughts on paper per say, but didn't someone mention that RS had worked out a special deal with Sprint? Maybe this is their "special deal"...just $.02 worth

The best buy employee told me they were having a glitch in there system w/ the pro-order giftcards for the evo today and as long as it shows on the reciept (they kept a copy of the reciept too) you will get the credit for the extra that you paid in tax. its not something that happends often, but it does happen sometimes when corp. guys forget to enter a code into the system when they set up the pre-order for some things on the computer network. They had the same issue earlier for alot of stores where the code for the giftcards didnt get put in either and some people didnt get giftcard b/c of it, but it didnt effect the fact you pre-ordered the phone. They did say that they could get an upper management person come over and take it off if i wanted, or just leave it on and have it credit toward my phone when i pick it up (i said screw it, leave it on, didnt feel like waiting for the manager to make there way over there)

It's not a way to make extra money. It's a bug in their system. The chick in the store I went to knew how to get around it, and said that it would be fixed by 5pm EST today.

Yea that also popped in my head as well. But seriously though, its only 10 bucks. I'm not rich or anything, but I do use A LOT of data on my phone, and if paying 10 bucks a month removes the data cap, that's great. I know I wont have 4G yet, but supposedly will (live in Pompano Beach, FL). And like most others said, even adding 10-15 dollars a month, is STILL cheaper than other carriers, without a cap, and 4G when we get it.
Cache & Carey | Sprint 4G coming to South Florida this year

I hope that article is true, still wonder what the source for it was :P. Anyways back to lurking.

BSOD said last night (in a relaxed, vacation like state) that RS inked a deal for early release. may 29th, i think?

The rep I spoke to said that they aren't offering anything like that. But she was just a Tier 1 CSR. What I heard was that the credit you heard about is for business accounts, so you may be able to get it if you have a Tax ID.

Pre ordered mine just an hour ago. Luckily I was #5 on the list. Can't wait...It's gonna seem like forever until June 4th.

lucky for you guys to get 10 dollar recurring credit for 24 months.

It would be impossible to pull off 30 dollars of credit since i want 3 EVO for my family

What'd you tell them exactly, if you don't mind me asking?

I asked to speak with the retentions section as soon as I spoke to a live person. They transferred me to them and I then told the lady that I have been with sprint forever and that I wanted the evo but was not happy about the $10 fee and that I don't care about 4G and all I want is the big screen. I then said that I did some research and T-mobile is cheaper with the HD2 and I was thinking about switching and that I was aware that I would have to pay the ETF. I then asked if is there anything she can do to help me out cause I would like to stay...........That's when she offered me the discount.
