No shit it would. Because they would not see a change in their monthly bill. What a dumb thing to say.

So you're saying i should have gotten 50 dollars back?
I was wondering why in the hell a $50 gift card came out to more than $50, but I had a 2 yr old in my lap talking about how he just tooted so I didn't really pay that much attention. LOL. I read on another thread that they will fix it when you buy the phone.
Happened to me too.i got charge.. i thought all of it was going on the card but i just check.. The card is only worth $50.00 so i got hosed for the tax.. guess i will keep the receipt!!!
You guys should just take a look at the post

Just substitute your own state sales tax and it'll add up just fine. You just have to make sure that when they ring up your order that they deduct the gift card amount from 199.99 PRIOR to adding tax.

Omg your right.
You know what, I'll represent you on this. We need to escalate this matter to a higher place.
It's high time we show them we mean business. Don't lose that receipt. It's important evidence. Ok ?

this has already been covered, The bestbuy employee I pre-order with told me it was a gltich in there system, and as long as the receipt shows i paid that extra amount i will be covered for that extra amount when the phone comes in. Hell, b/c of another glitch in the system earlier in the day, they had an issue that not everyone got a giftcard anyway.Omg your right.

Isevo, in my opinion, if you are not in a hurry, waiting will be better for many reasons: (1) any initial quirks will be sorted out by Sprint (2) the $10 extra fee for the device might reduce or eliminated, depending on customer response (3) when the actual product is released into the open, it might behave differently than what is shown in demos (with 4G cell towers in the same building) or even what is demoed in controlled conditions (4) developers will start to write application/hacks for the phone that you might be able to avail of and then decide what plan you want to get & (5) with the rush of people clamoring to get this phone, you might have to wait a while in any case, so why not wait it out in the first place, let the rush die down and then order the phone?Hey, gang. Just joined up to ask this but I've been hanging around forever. Hope this isn't too far off topic.
Really want this phone, but I've never been an early adopter of anything. Now that it's time to make a decision I just wanted to know if anybody else has any concerns about being on board early with the Evo. I'm telling myself that the HD2 reviews I've read say it's a great phone from a hardware perspective and is lacking in the OS department. Which I think makes this a safer bet.
So, am I foolish to be nervous at this point?
Enjoyed all the information I've picked up from you guys. Thanks in advance.
That's about what I thought. And any jobber could've guessed the price. Did any of these "insiders" own up to being wrong?
.Moze, I would take anything a rep says with a grain of salt. I have been bitten many times when the rep has said one thing and the invoice says something totally different. Then it becomes a "You said / I said". If a rep gives you a deal, ask for it in writing or in an e-mail. That way you have some proof if Sprint charges you more. Often, reps do not all have the same information and unless your questions is pretty straight forward, there is every chance that the rep might say things that they might not have control over.I just spoke to Sprint and went to Best Buy... This may be known info, but I'll share my experience anyway.
SPRINT:
I first called Sprint to ask several questions regarding the Evo... I filtered through the scripted responses and got some (seemingly) unreliable info...
* The sales rep kept stating the wrong day for the Evo release
* I asked about 4G coming to Syracuse, NY and she immediately said "Yes, it is coming." I believe I could have made up a city name and would have gotten the same response.
* Through Sprint, the phone will be 299.99 with a $100 rebate. I was able to negotiate an additional $25 off the phone if I bought it through them.
* Through Sprint, the rep mentioned the possibility to give me an even larger discount than my corporate discount (20%) if I bought the phone through them... However, they could not give me a quantitative figure -- she said 25-40% off depending on several factors. Take this part w/ a grain of salt.
* Sprint won't pre-order. They can pre-approve your credit, take down your info and call you on the 4th. You'll then, of course, have to wait for it to be shipped to you.
* When I spoke with the rep, she did not mention the extra $10 fee at all. I was interested in the 450min plan for the EVO and she said it would simply be $69.99 before my discount.
* CREDIT: I was approved for 5 lines, 0 deposit, 0 spending limit w/ not amazing credit.
Best Buy:
* I went to a best buy in Syracuse, NY. At first, the sales person said "we are not taking pre-orders for the EVO." I asked her if another Best Buy in town would be... As she checked on this for me, she mentioned that they literally just started taking pre-orders (as in within the last 5 minutes). This was at around 2pm EST. I was the first person on the list -- they schedule you a time to come in and pick up the phone and activate it. 10am for me.
* To pre-order, you pay a $50 deposit in the form of a BB gift card. If you choose to buy the EVO, your gift card is applied toward the balance of the phone. The phone is $199.
Hope this helps... GL.

As someone mentioned in an earlier post (I am sorry I do not remember the name), the $10 might be a ploy so as to avoid a new EVO customer seeing a huge phone cost. A phone costing $450 would seem more expensive than charging $200 and then $10 a month (which would be $440 over a 24-month period). In fact, if a customer keeps the phone for longer than 2 years, then paying $10 a month is more beneficial to Sprint than asking the customer to pay up $440 at the very beginning.Someone posted this on the AndroidCentral forums and I think this pretty much sums up this useless fee:
I'm more annoyed by the reasons Sprint offered for the extra $10 than the charge itself.
A "richer data experience" when not in a 4G area?
My Sprint Palm Pre has a very rich data experience and yet I'm not paying $10 extra. Or how about a faster processor, better camera, etc..
When did a carrier think it could charge monthly fees for advances in manufacturer hardware vs carrier upgrades? Does your broadband provider charge more because you have a faster computer?
Ugh, Dan Hesse was doing so well with Sprint's customer relations.
I spoke to a Sprint customer rep this morning and the lady told me that I cannot get the EVO on my $30 Sero plan, but I could get it on the $59.99 EPRP plan. She did not mention anything about the $10 and I did not ask as I was not about to pay 100% more on a plan for this phone. I told her that I was willing to even pay for the full cost of the phone (knowing that in a couple of years, I would have made up the cost thanks to the very cheap SERO plan) but the lady said that with the old SERO, the phone was a no go.hmm still no note on EPRP... weak
