Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

So when he/she gets her phone. They have to promise, not to use flash content, video conferencing, live video/audio feeds, stream movies, and the half dozen other things that the evo will allow you to do that your current phone will not.

They have to promise not to use it.

I seriously think most people do not have a clue how much data they really consume.

Haha..

From that standpoint I guess you are right.

No they wouldn,t. I'm talking just EVO customers! Positive spin on phone versus "Add-on" negative spin.
Yes. We would. We complained when they ripped our Free & Clear plans. We complained when we lost grandfathered vision. There is nothing positive about sprint giving us an EVO tax.

So is everyone replacing the 8GB card with a 16GB right off the bat? I'm shopping for one tonight. To bad 32GB are out of the price range.

Any word on Radio Shack and if you'll get the phone early?
Just called them, they said they are taking preorders yesterday and the phone will be in store BY june 4th. I said I heard rumors, and he said all he heard is BY june 4th.

I called best buy, they said the same thing. The phones will be here BY june 4th. Told him that I though you had to set up a time to get the phone and he said you do.

So the answer is maybe. I am getting mine from my company. So just rumors.

Ah, bummer. I would have liked to pick it up early (duh!)...but I think BB will be my best bet, as it's closer to home.

I am a current Sprint customer, out of contract. Talked to the Sprint retention rep and got $10 credit applied to my account for next 24 months on new two-year contract. Also received one time $50 credit because I just asked for it. Very easy to get the $10 monthly credit if you renew your contract and the rep was extremely easy to deal with. Thanks, Sprint.

Hate to stray away from topic....but atleast get away from the $10 talk....where can I find the best info for Android, as in the OS?

Been using a PRE for the last year, so the learning curve was different with that since it was brand new. But since Android has been out awhile, where's the best spot I can learn about it?

Have friends that have Droids...which they rave about...you know "Droid does", so I wanna be knowledgeable by the time I have my EVO, so I can say back, "but EVO does it faster"

When did a carrier think it could charge monthly fees for advances in manufacturer hardware vs carrier upgrades? Does your broadband provider charge more because you have a faster computer?

And the answer to that question is yes they do!

The standard internet price for me is 60 bucks a month for a 2mbps down 1 up.

I however can not use that plan. Please I have faster computer. I have 3 home servers. They can not use the standard internet connection, they have to pay more for the server connection.

So yes, if you have a data intense home computer, you will have to pay more for the service. I am sorry. But that is how the system works.

No!!!! If you upgrade one of your home servers from a dual core pc to the newest fastest quad core pc that is out there they will not charge you more! That is essentially what they are doing.

Also in your example, that is your choice to upgrade bandwidth. One that you can weigh the pros vs the price. We have no such option. We are forced to upgrade even if we aren't going to be using that new quad core pc for anything other than email (and before you bash me saying I am buying this phone with flash and video calling etc, I will probably never use video calling. Other devices are getting flash, are they getting charged?) If this fee was optional I would be 100% fine with it. But because it isn't I have a serious problem with it. Will it keep me from buying the phone? IDK yet, maybe - just on principal alone.

The one thing that is sad is that this new awesome phone is coming out and everyone is focused on the $10 charge (not just on here either - all over the web). That in and of itself should prove that the add on charge was a terrible idea.

Hey RiverOfIce, I seem to recall in some of your ealier posts that you were very knowledgable about things relating to FCC certifications and such (if I'm mistaken, I apologize).

Would you have you any knowledge or insights about a future Sprint release of a WiMAX capable Airave? It would be nice to be able to create local WiMax cell service at work/home.

Well to change the subject just a bit, why is no one complaining about the $30 hot spot charge. That is the one i am most upset about, you keep telling us it is so great why make it $30, just make it less $5, $10, $15 dollars and prove to everyone that it is the best. I know that company have to make money, but they will never make it doing it this way. Sprint went from #1 or #2 cell phone company years ago, and with bad decisions they slip to last place, and is now on the come up at #3. If they change their businesses plan and try to draw people in it would work, you have the the right phone and system to do it on, now prove to the world that it can be done. at&t is smart let apple do all the advertising and watch all the people come for the phone, service not so good, apple is what make the service bearable. learn sprint learn......

Can we all stop this $10 a month talk? Its moot since it won't make a sliver of difference. The horse is beyond dead if there is even such a thing. You either get it and pay it or not pay it and don't get it. Its amazing how after months of rumors and speculations and BS, the bans, the on probations and all the trolling in the world and Sprint FINALLY drops the info like you all wanted and all you can talk about is something that can't be changed. Somethings will never change.

Yes we (when I say "we" I mean "they") eventually will, but this is to show that Sprint dropped the ball in marketing this phone. This is what I was afraid off. People are talking more about the fee than the features that they said the phone will have like video chatting, voice and data simultaneously, etc.

I believe no one is complaining because it costs more than $30 to achieve the hot spot capability without the EVO, using the Overdrive device.

How are you using a hot spot now that costs less than $30?

Nonsense.

A) It was stated 4G would not cost more.

B) ATT caught major flack over upgrade eligibility for iPhones They changed it pretty quickly.

If you just renewed your contract, didn't you just sign away your subsidies when the EVO comes out?

I think no one is complaining because it is an optional add on. I for one always thought they would charge at least $20 for the hotspot feature. So $30 is a little higher, but not unreasonable since it is optional. Honestly though, wait a couple of weeks (at most) and the phone will be rooted and this feature will be free if you root it.

People aren't so upset over that one because there are existing, free ways to tether the Evo already - albeit to one other device only. But how often will most users want to tether 8 devices at the same time?

So there's a way around the hotspot fee for most people. There isn't a way around the $10, unless you can convince them to knock $10 off your plan to compensate, as a few SERO folks have done. But SERO is a special case, and most customers won't have that luxury.

...such a huge buzz on the Internet about this 10$ fee, I'd be surprised if they don't reevaluate things.

I'd like to agree with this...but I have doubts. I think they'll drop the tax when some new hotness is released.

On a side note...I've only used 400 mb this month. That's a few you tube videos, a few song downloads here and there and tethering my Touch Pro to my laptop every night (because corporate firewalls suck). Most of my email is don't through my phone now. Even if I'm at home - I'll likely check/send email from the phone instead of the computer. A little sprint TV sprinkled in here and there. I SSH to my home server often and and do regular maintenance stuff...start downloads...run scripts...etc.

4gb is a lot - even spread over 2 phones. That's more than a few pictures. According to my usage history - I average 400mb but hit 600 last month and 1

Do you really need to pre-order this phone like today or tomorrow?

What if I wait until next Friday, for example, won't I get the same treatment of people pre-ordering on the 1st-2nd day?

Mods please.

Can you moderate this thread regarding 10$ 4g price ????????

Start a new 10$ discussion thread. This is destroying the great news we just got and preventing any sensical discussion about the phone. I can't read it anymore. i'm quite sure I am not alone.

I agree. The whole $10 thing is VERY legit, and the forums DEFINITELY are a place to discuss it, but I wish it was a centralized place that isn't clogging up every other post.
