Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Just to go along with what Jackson has been telling us and for people to really get rid of the May thoughts for themselves and have peace of mind knowing it'll be june, I made this post in the "May Release" thread that was started.

http://androidforums.com/610995-post21.html

EVP sells to employees of coporations and you can clearly see in the email I posted that ALL of the discounted phone promotional prices ends on June 5. If that doesn't corolate enough with the June 6 date Jackson had mentioned, I don't know what other kind of "proof" people would want.

So do you think if the chance comes up to release the phone a week ahead of schedule they wouldn't because they have some promotion going on?

Like I said before, every single day that goes by Sprint is losing customers who are going with the Incredible. By NOT setting an official date so far that tells me that the process is still really fluid right now, but don't think some promotion is "proof" that its influencing when the Evo will get released.

@kritzell

they are guessing, they don't know. We haven't been told anything unless something was released this morning and I can't read it since I'm off.

Correct me if I'm wrong but 15 plus 5 for shipping and possibly tax were over 20 bucks wouldn't it b cheaper to just buy it at a sprint store?

Maybe but most likely with the added sprint retail markup price - it might not. The key is to get it as close to the manufacturer without as much middle man markup. Sprint will probably get a huge bulk order, add their really high retail markup and then sell it to us. Same thing with Best Buy - but even HIGHER retail markup :D

Yeah shouldn't be too long for monoprice and other places to get them.

they could have a "soft" launch and sell it for a bit WITHOUT a marketing blitz. this will get some initial $$$ and buzz going....then may 22/june 6/june 13 they could have an official release with marketing and hype.

like how stores/restaurants open with a soft opening and maybe a week later or so have a grand opening.

wouldn't that be nice.

me and my wishful (yet possible) thinking again..

and i'm surprised i didn't have to catch up on 5+ pages when i woke up...

If they do have a soft launch, I bet it would be on the 6th for the 13th release date.
That's the only thing that really makes sense to me. Do some promotion, release the phone and then after all the iPhone hoopla dies down, come out with both barrels. From what we learned from eieio (btw, all those posts have been moved to their own thread) yesterday, he expects a lot of 4G coverage within the next 30-45 days. That means by early June, there should be a lot of WiMAX coverage for demonstrating the awesome power of the EVO 4G.

here's another Sprint sponsored event for "Prince of Persia" for May 17 in LA. i wonder if the EVO will make an appearance.

A Star-Studded Evening in Hollywood Celebrating Jerry Bruckheimer Sponsored by Sprint - MarketWatch

Eguy - maybe you can schmooze your way into the event. disguise yourself as a waiter or something. mission impossible.

I'm actually considering going.

I'm just saying, this is actually typical for past Sprint promotions. The promotional "pricing" ends the day prior to a new phone release. I remember people who worked with Sprint posting similar type of "internal" documents, prior to the Touch Pro/Touch Diamond releases.

So many things are getting repeated lols . i understand people that are sprint customers want the best for sprint in every way but everyone has their personal opinion about something even if it's ignorant or if they are missing out. so my point is i don't think people should worry so much about who will go and get the incredible because no release date is set out for the evo . all it takes is for a new phone to come and bam people jump . it was people ready to come to at&t and to sprint when verizon was silent and now the phone is out you have people coming to verizon. same will happen with sprint. some people are not loyal to their own carrier or will wait forever and just instead they follow every device in my opinion that's not smart . you will never be satisfied . cause every carrier get's a king device . that's the point of competition. i don't see it anytime soon but i'm sure there will be a better device then the evo next year and that is a good minute from now.

i think whatever comes out during the summer will be the game changing devices and maybe a few solid devices during Q4 . I just know if your getting the phone you should be happy and let the other people who you claim are going for the incredible instead do them cause at the end of the day what phone will you have when both are out ? worry about what your getting and everyone will do the same when all is out.

i'm a little surprised and annoyed that VZW got the big display 1GHZ Snapdragon Android Superphone before Sprint. in the past, VZW was always cautiously late to the game when it came to new devices.

1) release date will be on June 13th give or take a week. May is not going to happen, so don't worry or get your hopes up about that one

2) If you call tele sales they can usually help upgrade you early as long as you sign a 2 year contract. An in store location does not always have they seniority or know how to accomplish this.

3) The Evo is coming with the largest battery in the cellphone industry. It would come with something bigger but it deosn't exist. It should last you a full day though. People make it out like saying 4G takes up sooo much battery life. That is soo false its not even funny. Its actually wuite the opposite. 4G allows you to process info faster and do things quicker so your processor and other components of your phone don't have to work as hard. By doing this they are working les saving you energy. You will be able to do more things like video chatting and such which will use battery life, but you should know that already. If you are just going to use the phone as you would the NExus or another android device you will servivie a full day without dying. Even though it has a bigger 4.3" display i can assure you (i know this for fact) that HTC has done all they can to make it the most efficient phone on the market.

you will all enjoy this one i promise.

Jackson

1500 is the standard battery most sprint smart phones come with and bigger do exist I havea 3200 mah in my phone so yeah. My touch pro 1 and 2 both came wtih a 1500 and its about standard for a smart phone

others with 1500
moment
hero

so nutin special about the battery its sprint standard. Wish others followed this though

i don't think its a standard because of its size. The nexus one only has a 1300 and the iphone is close to that aswell. 3200! How big is taht phone? It must be huge the battery to support smething like that is roughly 4-6 inches...

He has what they call in the business an extended battery, I've seen them as big as 5000mah and as little as 1200mah, the actual size of the battery doesn't change if it did the battery wouldn't fit. These batteries have been around for a long time and are usually sold by third party vendors for specific devices.

Example: Amazon.com: Extended High Capacity 2300mah Phone Battery for HTC Tmobile Google G1 G-1 + Black Cover: Cell Phones & Service

Seidio sells 3200mah batteries. They usually require a special back to fit the extra bulk.

If it doesn't fit the original back I wouldn't buy it plenty of reputable 3rd party battery companies make entended batteries to fit the device perfectly, by the wat the link I posted is a cheap battery as well just wanted to give you an example.

Hi everyone. I've been reading this thread for about a week now, but I've finally joined the forums. I am really excited about the Evo. I live in the Chicagoland area, so this is a really a no-brainer for me. I'm with Verizon currently, but I've been out of contract since February. Because I'm so tired of my Samsung Flipshot flip phone, and I had an NE2 upgrade available with Verizon, I pre-ordered the Incredible just to try it out and to show my dad what smartphones can do. Hopefully, it will convince him to join my mom and me when we start our Sprint family plan. I will have to find some Sprint phone to purchase during mid to late May and then return it when the Evo is released. Just like everyone else, I can't wait 'til June! It's been great reading your posts and I'll be visiting a lot this next month.

the point is that huge batteries currently exist regardless if any current phones have them as stock batteries. even if they didn't exist they could be made.

HTC could have went with a 2,000+ MAMP battery if they wanted to. they would simply ask the battery manufacturer to make what they want per their specs.

i guess they chose 1500 MAMP as the best balance of size, weight, cost, performance, and life.

well lucky you. you get to play with the new Inc. until the new EVO comes. and we are stuck with our old phones.

Welcome, Jmobie. For the most part, we're a big happy family and getting bigger everyday. Please feel free to add to the conversation whenever you like.

1. i don't like the big rumpshaker backs. not on my devices and nor on women. "No man should date a woman with a bigger ass than he has - because it's only going to get bigger." - Sir Charles Barkley

2. i don't like those third party batteries from Seidio etc. i don't trust the electronics.

what they should do is increase the size height and length of the battery to match the phone - rather than increase the thickness. if youve ever held the HD2 the device is THIN! almost too thin! i say make a thin battery but make it the entire size of the back of the device. so you get more battery "mass" from height and length and don't need to recess the battery into the device - just lay it on top like a deck of cards. yeah it might add 1/8" but the HD2 is thin anyway. (im assuming HD2 and EVO are comparable thickness). so take a current battery, add more mass to it, but smash it flat to cover the entire back of the device. make any sense?

yeah but the average sprint high end phone has a 1500. I wish I remembered what my 6600 and 6700's had but I know for sure based on experience and phones owned the touch pro 1 2 diamond moment and hero all have 1500 mah batteries. But I wish for smart phoens the industry would follow a standard 2k or more to be honest. Energy usage sucks with them. They have some awesome power but need to be able to dry out a batter slower . I was hoping we'd have at least upt'd battery technology to the point where we could get 2k in a 1500 package but doesnt look like we are. Personally Id love to see smart phones with a built in battery AND a removable. That way we can hot swap and no worries if its an emergency the dreaded wait till it boots up. What I find funny though is alot of times Verizon phones come with a 1350 while the equivalent sprint phone has a 1500. If i remember right Sprint is the only one with a touch pro 2 with a 1500mah battery dont quote me on that just going by 2 friends with the tilt 2 and touch pro 2 with tmobile and AT&T and both got a 1350. Though that is because GSM supposedly uses less power then CDMA but my phone lasts longer on its 1500 by a good 2-3 hours then their 1350's so who knows.

I wish with the evo they would have gone out thier and gotten a 3000mah battery and built around it. Could have made it slim and still had the same size or a bit fatter then it currently is. Id been happy!
