can you honestly watch hulu on the skyfire browser?!?! Hows the quality?

I have watched HULU on SkyFire on my old Sprint Mogul (WinMo) phone... image quality was good, but it had a extremely slow frame rate... not worth watching.

That being said I did sign-up to be notified of the Android version of SkyFire as I expect with faster connection speed and a faster application on the EVO HULU should look great through the SkyFire browser.

I hope so.

I remember the format wars. From what I remember HD DVD were cheaper to produce with the same quality viewing experience. I still have the HD player for my 360.

The difference was that blueray had the potential to store more information and was therefore a longer lasting technology. In the case of wimax vs LTE the question is not which is better, the question is which is more important in the mobile market. Realisitcally, WiMax can do about 5-6 down and 1 up, which is more than a mobile phone will ever need. Wimax also has a lot more spectrum which equals more bandwidth. LTE (theoretically) can go faster but it doesnt have the bandwidth and therefore is more likely to be bogged down as more users switch over.

I honestly think AT&T and verizon may have made a fatal mistake with LTE. More people are using Smartphones than ever before which equates to more data usage. When there is more usage then the pipes get bogged down. Wimax can handle this, LTE (most likely) cannot. These guys are going to end up dealing with the same issues that 3g is dealing with now, too many users slowing down the connection.

I thought this is a HTC EVO thread, who gives a rats rear butt about Iphone. I should know better to bite on this, but your killing meh! If you want to talk about the latest and greatest for the Iphone go to Applesauce.com. I could give a crap arse about a piece of technology that is soo yesterday.. I and the rest of andriodformus.com care about android phones. Your point with apple products here in a Android forum is eluding me. Once again nobody cares, if your going to contribute to all things Android plz pull up a chair, but if you going to taught about Apple your are in the in the wrong place..Your a taxi cab.

"If you build they come" "If you have a good product, they will come" Unfortunately that means negative people too. Shameful.

I know this was about two or three pages back, but it seems that a few have been saying this for quite some time now, well folks, allow me to say a few things...
yes we know this is the EVO thread, but in the real world its bound to be compared to other phones and in this case the sale for such a device. With Apple and their marketing machine, it would be logical for Sprint to sell it sooner than later before the iPhone comes out. (more on this later). Still I find this talk, "on topic" since it deals with what could be complications in EVO sales, our desire to have the device asap and Apple's desire to stop HTC.
Trust me if i think its off topic it would not be here.

I know this would be considered "off topic" but seeing as there is no other news:
4G wars: LTE spending to surpass WiMax, says IDG | Between the Lines | ZDNet.com
I know that LTE wont really be available for a long while but this is still a bit worrisome.
Actually it can go either here or in the Wimax Deployment thread. Its important to note that it actually gives more credibility to what member eieio was showing us the other day that Sprint is actually pushing out their Wimax deployment but keeping a low profile about it. Sprint isn't stupid, yes they have made mistakes in the past, but with Hesse at the wheel, alot has improved (in my opinion) and with such a top notch phone and the only one in the country able to deliver 4G service. Knowing that the Lte camp is trying to catch up, Sprint is making sure to accelerate the process of deploying Wimax even more.

As for the EVO, its release dates, rumors etc, due to the NDA, alot of the Sprint/HTC/Apple/Google employees, testers and higher ups cannot disclose anything. You'll be surprised how many are here, both as members and lurkers.

but rest assured that the phone is ready to go, sitting in a few warehouses Louisville Ky, just waiting for the 4G switches to be switched on and given the go ahead to ship them to their stores. It will be done before the iPhone announces their device at their (undisclosed) convention. Sprint will have at least a 3 week head start in marketing, blogging and hyping up this phone, especially with the contest winners.
Of course that does not mean that Apple will not try to do their damnest to stop it with its own marketing, but at least Sprint has its foot in the door and is about to play their winning hand.

Anyway, I believe what's beensaid already about the 6th and 13th is spot on. Sprint on the 13th, telesales on the 6th, Best buy, Radio shack, Walmart a few days before the 13th, most likely that Friday. All this, weeks before the Apple conference and even more weeks before the iphones' actual sale.

But as with anything in life, only time will tell if if any of this is correct.

TS out

I just came from Best Buy here in Emeryville, CA. I went to the phone section and talked to 2 of the reps there about the EVO. WOW talk about excited. I thought I was excited! They REALLY want this phone as bad as me (us). They kept talking about the HDMI output and the video recording LOL They were teasing the guy at the camera dept saying that the phone is gonna make him lose customers because of the video and 8mp cam. They said that about 50-60 folks a day come in asking about a sign up or reservation list but it doesnt exist yet. Anyways just wanted you guys to know the buzz is definitely spreading here in the bay area CA

OK so the HTC EVO 4G has the Qualcomm 8650 snapdragon processor inside, the Nexus One has the Qualcomm 8250 snapdragon inside. Both are clocked @1GHz.

Whats the difference besides the obvious?

Not to nitpick but claiming 6Mb/s is more than enough for a mobile phone is kind of short sited. Heck I can already think of things that I would need more bandwidth for today.
"640K ought to be enough for anybody." ;)

Yea I personally don't think it matters when it comes. Cause when it comes it will be ready period. People will complain or love it. It's a good and bad to everything.

If you personally care about how the Sprint business is doing and how they sell out and the stock and all that then maybe it matters to you but if your getting the phone anyways I don't think it should matter. Before the iphone or after the iphone will get it's shine period. That's how the media is. The Evo will get it's shine to. Just let it come out and be happy. Some people are making it seem like if the evo doesn't do good media wise your own evo that you buy won't be good. forget the media. The evo will get it's own buzz and do well. iphone will always do them. just be happy for what your going to get. I love this thread but some stuff is not worth arguing or even debating. cause at then end of the day its still going to happen how it was anyways. not everyone will like what you like . I'm sure most of us will feel the evo is better and some for the iphone or whatever phone. comes down to personal choice and who is really into phones and not for the name and bandwagon

It will be..

Sprint needs to go head to head with the school yard bully.. Drop it about a week before the other phone and take them on every step of the way.. The tech blogs will do the heavy lifting for them and some really good commercials and it would be a knock out.

This has been my thought all along with the arguments being "release in May!" or Bill's "release after iPhone".

It'll be a risky move, but the rewards would be great. For the Evo to come out the winner, it might actually snap some Apple fans out of their hypnosis (maybe..)

It most certainly matters. The reason for the awesome amount of development on the iPhone platform is the large user base. The reason Palm is about to go under is the relatively small user base.

More users means more development and continued improvements whereas a flop means a drop in support and being written off as a failed platform.

There has never been a phone that has the hype of the I-Phone when released..

The specs on the EVO are top notch.. If you get the Blogs and Media comparing or even saying the EVO is a better phone (which most here think it is) the hype will be unprecedented..

Plus sprint runs some cool commercials to back it up..

So you see the EVO on TV. You google it and come across a forum or tech site laying out the comparisons and showing which is a better phone..

If they get 4G and Voice running at the same time. Plus a Video conferencing software.. Priceless

I am guessing at this.. But I think Qik is going to be a bigger part of the picture as well..

Now that I think of it more and more....there is no way that Sprint is not going to market/advertise the EVO in the right way. This isnt like the Palm Pre, last year.

This isnt an attempt to "save Sprint from bleeding" or trying to dig Palm out of the grave. Plus Sprint really didnt have much control over Palm's marketing strategy. But now, this is Sprints Flagship Android phone, its first 4G phone...the EVO is going to be the top of line Sprint phone, as well as spec wise the best phone on the market.I expect them to do a full on marketing blitz for the EVO, the same as they have been doing 4G commercials, or the newer ones with Dan about Customer guarantee. It honestly now seems like a step by step, ingenious marketing ploy by Sprint.

First, you advertise 4G, and the high speed experience it brings....next you advertise how Customer Service has improved, and your guarantee towards it.....then bam

Introduce the EVO, the nations 1st 4G phone on the Now Network...bring new customers in hook line and sinker.

The problem with that assertion, is that advertising is not a science, but more of an art. There is no objective "this will work, that will not"... advertising is subjective. They may think they have the best $10 bajillion dollar ad campaign and it could very well flop... vs some stupid $100 viral video some acne-faced pre-teen nerd threw together while he was bored one Friday night.

hey guys. went to BestBuy after school today to pick up some stuff and I went to the cell phone section. i ask a guy, "do you know anything about the htc evo?" he says "i do, and i cant wait till it comes out" so i ask "have you heard anything about a release date?" he says "ive heard from my sprint rep that we should expect more info around the first few weeks of may. the talk is june 13. but you know sprint, nothing is ever confirmed with them."

soooooooo pretty soon and we will know.
