Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

As posted earlier, the sprint Q1 earnings report was posted today. In the last few posts there is discussion regarding the Apple event starting June 7th. Here's what's interesting....

During the Sprint Conference Call, neither the Evo or 4G was mentioned at all. One would think they would highlight this, but apparently they are keeping everything tightlipped.

Then, Hesse was asked about Apple and the new iPhone and he commented how 'great' apple is. (I wasn't able to listen in). Anyway, some investors are taking that as a hint that Sprint might be getting the next iPhone, which would mean releasing the Evo near the iPhone wouldn't matter, because they'd be selling both.

Here are some investors talking about the call:
Google Finance: Sprint Nextel Corporation

Still, for me, the sooner the Evo comes out the better.

I personally think its crazy to do TV advertising without including a release date (especially) or pricing.

Also, as I said previously in the thread, the Sprint NASCAR All-Star race in Charlotte will be a BIG Evo event, I can promise you that. That is scheduled for May 22.

I'm sorry to get this off topic, but I do not like sweeping things under the rug and feel that in order to keep a good relationship with our members that such events even when in the wrong be acknowledge and set straight.

We are lucky to have you in this forum. You are not only a great contributor you're also a very even tempered and fair moderator. It's obvious when a moderator is on a power trip....and you most certainly are not. Thanks! :D

I could tell you one thing. Apple purposely chosen the 7th for their conference. With Sprint's NYC/LA event, they need to find ways to "plug in" the EVO 4G. NYC is already primed for WiMax, and work already started in L.A., though I don't know how far along the work is yet. I say activate both, and have two major markets primed for 4G.

Having said that, LA event has nothing to do with the EVO. It's a film event, though the device will be shown here and there. No breaking news happening in this event. NYC is more of a EVO/Disney event, though I don't think you'll learn anything major. My invite already came through, so anything I learn from there, you guys will know (though I already know almost all that needs to know. Incredible release date and pricing was announced 2 weeks before launch, and this might be the same with the EVO. Marketing started weeks ago, so all they need now is TV coverage showing off some features that the phone will do best. Imagine setting up the EVO in your car. Your wife streaming Pandora in the front, and your two kids watching Monster vs Aliens in the back from their laptops. Dad seems lost so he decides to use Sprint Navigation, but his boss from back home decides to video call him. Wife and kids still doing what they are doing, regardless of the video call. That's the power of the EVO 4G with WiMax. Show this in a commercial, and watch the buzz explode.

I don't know that I would bust my budget with commercials at first. I agree that phones tend to be an impulse buy so let all of us people that are going to buy it anyway get it and THEN start the commercials. If sprint waited to start their huge marketing blitz until the iphone stuff dies down then you hit people from both sides. Early adopters are going to get theirs before the Iphone even comes out and then after the iphone is released and that has died down get Dan out there to push the best phone after all the awesome reviews for it are out and all ever the place.

This phone will sell itself, but with the limited marketing budget that sprint will have it would be insane to try to promote it at the same time that all of the new iphone commercials are out there.

Okay folks, the time has come, it finally happened. I have erred and sin.

Upon reviewing my notes and re-reading the guidelines myself, it seems I may have gone a bit over the top in not allowing posts with curse words (at least certain curse words), mainly because I mis-understood the guideline as such.

Therefore, I want to publicly say I'm sorry and apologize to member kcs7272 and have undeleted any of his posts and those that quoted him. infractions that were given out will be reversed.

I'm sorry to get this off topic, but I do not like sweeping things under the rug and feel that in order to keep a good relationship with our members that such events even when in the wrong be acknowledge and set straight.

Okay, now back to the EVO.

I'm glad you guys like the "crowd gathering outside the may 12th NYC event" Photoshopped image I posted a few pages back. It was fun doing it. :D

Yeah, Jackson brought that up about Sprint possible getting the iPhone 4G a long time ago. It only makes sense if that phone is going to have a font facing camera. I like the idea of the iPhone coming to Sprint for it's 4G service and think what that will do to spread the WiMAX word.

Yeah - totally meant to mention that Jackson brought up this possibility way back on the Sprint Forums. Thanks Bill.

Picture it.. May 12th
Location: NYC

Man in Black #1: "Are you seeing what I'm seeing"
Man in Black #2: "Oh, man this can't be good"
Man in Black #1: "A crowd is gathering, I think we need to notify DH"
Man in Black #2: "Central, we have a situation at the front door. Please have DH come down"

A few minutes past....

Dan Hesse (DH): "What's the problem guys"
Man in Black #1: Ummm, just look"

WeWantOurEVO.png

Dan Hesse: "What the hell?, this was suppose to be secret"
Man in Black #2: "Nothing is secret with those guys"
Dan Hesse: "So what do we do, what do they want"
Man in Black #1: Seems they want their EVO"
Dan Hesse: "Hell, give it to them, we have a bunch of them in the back"

Crowd goes wild.

TS - only 1 thing to improve on. Photoshop in the verizonwireless guy with the glasses - right in front!

My wife really likes her iPhone and we'd likely move her to Sprint (and the new iPhone) if they release it on Sprint. If not, she's gonna have to pick another phone. LOL.

Since I'm in Charlotte this is great news. A guy who does free lance writing for us always does Nascar events. Maybe I can get him to let me have a press pass for it. Possibly get hands on with the Evo.

Yeah, there has also been a couple other posts where he's all *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* about some other HUGE phones coming to Sprint. It's exciting in a weird sort of way.

NOTE, this card is only a Class2, the EVO would be better suited with a faster card.

What difference would it make? From what I understand, you can't run/install apps to the microSD anyway, so I'm guessing the class of the card won't make much of a difference.

Going by that conference call statement, it could be quite possible that the next iPhone will be true 4G, on Sprint.

Can you imagine how current AT&T customers would feel when hearing that their next greatest iPhone is on Sprint with 4G? They would drop AT&T in a heartbeat just for the phone, regardless of Sprints cheaper pricing. I dont know much about Jobs...but if you wanna drag some of the buzz away from Google/Android and want to compete with the EVO....why wouldnt you set up a deal with the same carrier, and be in direct competition?

I agree with you billsmed, that FFC is a sort of a sign...I just cant see that running right on AT&T. If this is all true, EVO & a 4G iPhone, Sprint would be in for a huge year, and AT&T would be devastated. I just really wonder if Steve Jobs would be willing to almost abandon his AT&T iPhone consumers that are stuck in contract?

By the way, I dont watch much TV, but has there been any Droid Incredible commercials? Its launching tomorrow, but Im not really seeing much buzz about it?

thatd be pretty insane if sprint was able to get the 4g iphone right now considering all the talks have been about a possible verizon version.

And the thing is, it would be REALLY easy to put it on Sprint since Verizon's network is CDMA (the same as Sprint's) and the talk should have ALWAYS been about a CDMA iPhone, not a Verizon iPhone.

A 4G iPhone that's actually 4G would be pretty huge news. Even if it wasn't 4G, if Sprint's plan for the iPhone was cheaper than anyone else's they'd steal a TON of AT&T's customers.

Wonder what Sprint stock is going for right now. LOL.

I can't even find the right words to describe exactly what you just wrote here. A little over a month until we all have one!

Apple has been in deep discussion with Verizon for over a year and many Verizon employees have been spotted on Apple HQ. USA Today released an article today which stated that the deal may just go through and Apple's next iPhone (next as in the 2011 model) quite possibly could have big red's logo on it and possibly LTE capabilities.

Link: Apple and Verizon consider iPhone deal - USATODAY.com

I have yet to see any Apple, Sprint negotiations or comments thereof, however even if there was there would be no WiMax this year either way since the upcoming iPhone's hardware is final build already and it doesn't support 4G whether it be WiMax or LTE. I do like the concept of having the iPhone on Sprint's network but the logic behind it as a Sprint customer leaves a bad taste in my mouth. First thing that comes to mind is what happened to AT&T's network as soon as 20 million teenie-boppers raked havoc on their network.

What difference would it make? From what I understand, you can't run/install apps to the microSD anyway, so I'm guessing the class of the card won't make much of a difference.

From what I've learned in another thread, the difference in speed pertains to write speeds only, so you'd only see a difference when you were copying files, movies, music, or whatever to your card. From what I read, the read speeds are the same for the different speed classes.

I think Apple would stay with AT&T as well. Why would they force their customers with previous versions to go with Sprint? Only those that want the iPhone 4G and WiMAX service would go with Sprint.

...the upcoming iPhone's hardware is final build already and it doesn't support 4G whether it be WiMax or LTE.

How do you know that? Even in the teardown of the new Iphone that was lost in the bar, the chipset wasn't exposed. Couldn't there actually be a Wimax or LTE radio in the phone underneath that cover that wasn't removed (where the processor is)?

Read the last sentence of that article:

Apple would also benefit, he adds, "because that means they'd have to buy a new iPhone."

That's EXACTLY what Apple wants... more sales.

I think they'd have their phone on Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T. They just want to sell phones and bring in those $$$$$.

It was a GSM radio found inside the leaked iPhone, unless AT&T can grow a 4G network in under a month what's the sense in building an iPhone with 4G for a carrier that has no network to operate on. It's not like the iPhone "4G" will be around for many years to come Stevie releases a new iPhone every summer.
