How the hell is it useless?

I had plenty of apps on my iPhone and had TONS of room left over for media.

If I could get a ton of storage on my phone, THEN, I might actually be willing to ditch my iPod.

I mean, who am I kidding. iPod batteries last WAY longer than any smartphone will, but it would be nice to have all my music on there incase I wanted it.

I agree with ya man. Cause when you save certain things, it gives you the option to chose internal and sd card. nobody will rely on sd cards alone. people want certain things on the phone itself. soon the main purpose of having the sd card is saving apps to it.

and everything is stored on the microsd card I'm going to roll with the Samsung Galaxy S.

It sure would be sweet if they released this phone a little early....to take advantage of the Labor Day weekend. People will be getting together...traveling etc....and will want to have their new toys! Weeee!

There really are no facts suggesting an early release...but intuition tells me it's very possible....very possible!

PS....I wanna touch things too....mmm! Smooth backs...yummy!

Don't you mean memorial day weekend? LOL

Can anyone explain the difference between ROM and internal storage? I understand you can only install apps on ROM but what makes them different? They are both built into the device but why can't we just have 8GB of ROM?
Also why is it called ROM, I thought ROM stood for read only memory (when you can clearly write to ROM).

Auto, the point I was trying to make was the storage on an iphone IS used for ALL storage, ie picts, music, as WELL as to run apps. Android, as of yet without rooting, doesn't support the RUNNING of apps from the card. The mainstream user that doesn't know about or care about rooting will not get the same use from the "storage" capacity. Imagine you are the "average" user and read you have 32gig of "storage". You d/l all kinds of apps and suddenly you are faced with a slow running phone, or something that says you don't have enought room for that app. You check your onboard mem and find that you have 14gig free, this is why I said it is "useless" until aps2sd is supported. When that happens then the storage mem will be a big issue. Sorry I wasn't clear as to what I was trying to get across.

Has been discussed before it is ROM but a different kind there are 4 different kinds. Someone else explained before but am too lazy to go back and find the post.

Read-only memory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and who knows why no 8gb could be becasue they know no one will use it all one way to make the device a bit faster wthout having to constantly keep with the internal stroage in lame mens terms anyway. Also micros sd card keeps you flexible ( and puts the cost on the customer to increase space)

Could be a price saving idea as well. But 1gb is enough for me i already have an 8gb card in my tp2 I can just move over and use their cheap.

Ok, so it can be modified, kind of a misleading name, lol.

Well I really hope they include 8GB internal memory instead of an 8GB card because I would just throw that 8GB out and put in a 16GB card anyway. I have an 8GB iPhone and it is filled.
If it had internal memory instead of an SD card then I could have 24GB of storage vs only 16GB. I would probably just put my music collection on the internal memory because it is only about 5GB.

Sadly it is looking like it will be an 8GB SD card.

I seriously doubt they are going to put an unfinished model in the hands of Oprah to show everyone and her how it doesn't work.

I would not be so sure of that. for instance, if you have all the basics covered, which would make the phone appear complete to your average user, then it is all good. Power users are the ones that find all the bugs. Folks that dig deep into the settings and push the phone farther than any normal user ever would.

I don't know Oprah personally, but I'd just hazard a guess that she is not a power user. She is more than capable of being one, but seriously doubt she has time.

thought Id chime in with a new rumor... a high up their sprint employee o the sprint users forum says he knows the release date ... and he is one of the trustworthy ones hope he tells

If the N1 was going to be released by Sprint this month, I think we would have heard something about that by now.

My gut's telling me the ECO 4G will be released May 22nd. For the life of me, I can't see the phone being released during the middle of WWDC, so that means an early June release out. If the phone is ready and they're starting a media blitz on May 12th, let's release the phone!!!
Would be kinda cool to get an EVO and go to WWDC, stream live video from it and say. Yeah, this is coming to you from my HTC EVO:p

This makes no sense how will you upgrade internal memory? You plan on hacking the phone open and de-soldering the memory from the circuit board? Internal memory cannot be upgraded, sd cards can by simply replacing the card. Not to mention they are swappable.

If the phone is ready now and the media blitz begins on the 12th at the NYC event, why not release the phone soon after that?

There's a lot of talk going around here saying June 6th or June 13th, but May 22nd has also been rumored. I think it makes more sense than the June release, mostly because of Apple's WWDC conference taking place June 7 - 11.

Do you really think Sprint is going to release the phone in the middle of that event? I don't! If the phone is ready, May 22nd makes more sense as far as being able to capture media attention and buzz. Think about it.

Sprint may have initially been set for an early June release, but the Apple event forces their hand. We're only talking two weeks earlier than originally planned and that's ONLY 3 weeks away! That should be sufficient time (May 12 - 22) for the media to give this a good spin before the phone is released.

It sure does make more sense, the thing is the june dates are just rumors as well. The release "window" is summer so until sprint gives us a real date I'm not going to keep my hopes too high that the phone was really ever going to release in early june, summer doesn't even start until the end of june and I have yet to see sprint release anything earlier than they announced.

That's not to say I want the phone to really release in summer, late spring is much better for all of us I'm sure. I think most of us agree releasing at the same time as the iphone or anytime soon after the iphone announcement is just stupid from a business perspective. You need mind share when you launch a flagship product, and nothing will eclipse the iphone as far as media and andvertising after it is unveiled.

Just for me personally if the phone doesn't launch by the end of this month or at the latest early next month I may leave sprint, I have been basically donating money to them for a year and a half because the phone I have is nearly useless (original instinct) I have unlimited web on a phone with an AWFUL web browser so I never use it, a screen so small it's hard to type on so I don't text much and the speaker quality sucks so I don't use it for calls much either. There have been months where I literally have not used the phone at all and when december came around and it was time for me to upgrade I saw all these other phones were coming to other networks yet sprint had a bunch of mid range slow phones and I was not going to "upgrade" to another mid range phone.

Sprint has gotten hundreds of dollars out of me for pretty much 0 services provided and now my ETF is low enough to where it wouldn't hurt me to leave if the Evo doesn't come out soon, I'm not willing to wait until July, August or September for this phone.

I'm not the one that brought up May 22nd in the first place. Eieio and Self Praise both mentioned that date, but SP later said the phone won't be released until June.
.
1) This week we heard rumors that the phone is ready and is being shipped to warehouses.

2) The media blitz begins on May 12th at a NYC event, then continues on May 17th in Los Angeles.

3) The rumored release date is June 6th or June 13th. That date was also confirmed by Jackson, but this week it was announced that Apple's WWDC conference will be taking place June 7 - 11. Releasing the EVO 4G in the middle of that conference would be a disaster and I highly doubt Sprint wants to release their flagship device during the middle of that.

4) If the phone is ready, releasing the phone in May makes sense as far as being able to capture media attention and buzz.

5) May 22nd makes perfect sense, because the following weekend is Memorial Day weekend and a lot of people will be out of town.

6) May 15th is two days before the May 17th LA event, so that date doesn't make any sense.

7) The weekend after Memorial Day is June 5th which brings us to the beginning of WWDC where Apple will be getting all the media coverage. I can't see a June release.

8) May 22nd is the only date that makes sense. Of course, this is based on the rumors that the phone is ready, but I believe the rumors this week suggesting the phone is already being shipped to warehouses.

9) User Orion: "I think that time frame [May 22nd] would make the most sense. The EVO will dominate the media during that time".

I'm still betting on May 22nd :)

Bill, I'm just curious if you have any info backing your strong seeming bets?
I'm not here to question your personal feelings/judgment or to rain on anyone's parade, but are we possibly setting ourselves up for disaster? Just because we feel that Sprint should do something doesn't necessarily mean that they can or will.

Everyone thought that Sprint should release details before, but when an arbitrary event turned out to be nothing public, it was drama, drama, drama. What if the NYC event has no release date or pricing info? All indications are that it is just A early preview screening for Prince Of Persia, and possibly the turn on of 4G for NYC. For us to assume that other details have to be released seems pretty shortsighted.

I understand that right now, as opposed to the 'event' before, we have more info and that a release seems ever more imminent but could we all just be getting really excited over-inflating things?

Don't get me wrong, I have a countdown clock program on my computer desktop set to May 12th (and June 6th), I want the Evo just as bad as the next guy, but I'm trying to keep my head on straight through the whole thing. Voice of reason I guess.

Anyone can have an opinion, but when opinion turns into status-quo group thinking, there exists a disparity that will likely create consequence.

I noticed over in the unofficial thread that you posted these words in regards to Ozcar posts:
Okay, I see your point. I just don't see spreading BS rumors.

I just want us all to see this; are we really much better than Ozcar?

Remember Bill I said this before, you have all my respect in the world, And don't go changin' that optimism, I love it.

He's just stating his opinion as to when he THINKS everything might happen, that's what this thread is all about. If he or anyone else had facts I wouldn't be here, well I would but I wouldn't be reading guesstimate posts, heh. Truth is in my book no matter how "insider" you are I take all posts as nothing more than guesses. I'll believe it when Dan Hesse says so and not a moment sooner, but it's fun to read everyone's opinion.

I hear ya, I love the camaraderie and differing opinions when most of us can act like distinguished adults while respecting others.

My fear is that not everyone takes posts with a grain of salt like we do Latin, and not everyone can act like an adult with a head on their shoulders.
