Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

If it's Sprint's "flagship," who better than Oprah to sell the device to people "outside" of the "target market?" Why would Sprint want to limit who they sell the phone to?

yeah maybe Chevy should promote their pickup trucks on Oprah too. Why would they want to limit who they sell their trucks to?

who's her audience? a bunch of fat middle aged technophobe yenta housewives???

that doesn't seem to match up with the EVO's target market.

I know a lot of college age girls who watch Oprah. And a few of their boyfriends tag along. Her audience is ridiculously large. This is GREAT marketing for the EVO. Even the most non-tech savvy individual will drool over a screen that big.

On an unrelated note, didn't Jackson say this would be coming to Sprint??

This phone looks like a great addition to the Sprint 4g line..

From what I've seen, it seems it will be similar to the Hero/Eris deal, where the devices will basically get reskinned according to the carrier.

What's interesting is that the Sprint version likely will/should have 4G built into it, but obviously that would not be possible with the VZ version.

nobody else can touch Sprint's $99 Unlimited Everything plan. it's by far the best value in the wireless space. add 4G and the Premier perks to the mix and it's a no brainer.

however - i'm still angry and bitter that i am still waiting for a flagship 2010 device while Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile already have theirs in hand.

What's AT&T and T-Mobile's 2010 flagship device that is already in-hand?

Nexus 1? Not exactly flagship material.. MyTouch? Hardly great.. Um...

It's frustrating when people complain about Sprint's lack of phones. EVERY CARRIER has 3 great devices and a bunch of cheaper ones. Sprint has Hero, Moment, TouchPro2. Soon to be EVO. Sure we don't have the Nexus 1. The Incredible is still too new to be jealous of.

edit: I forgot HD2.. T-Mo has that.. But we get the better half in a month!

Frankly, Sprint, in my eyes, has always had great options. People just love to complain. The grass is always greener on Verizon.

Yea I was about to post the same thing. Its pretty sweet. Same experience as being on the laptop. I just tried it out. I deleted it though since htc sense has it's own version. But people with stock should get it most definite. it's really the same thing just different skin over it. i like the animated bg of it though, with the clouds moving.

Good reply. I still think Sprint has over played their hand with the early announcement. In doing so they have significantly limited the potential upside. That is no no in the business world. Plus I'm really p.o.'d that I will have to return my Incredible in a couple of weeks and go back to a craptastic motorola until the EVO is released. Stupid blackberry couldn't make another couple of months.

Man, I really feel your pain. My GF has her Incredible and keeps taking it away from me when I am playing with it. Dang sweet phone. I just have to be careful that I don't get all smug when I am holding the Evo in a few more weeks (sounds better than saying this summer).

I have been swapping out phones for the last 2 years, always trying to find something better than my old blackberry. Moto Droid was the closest I came to jumping ship, but touch screen was jittery and the phone felt klunky. hated the slider kbd too. Incredible is almost perfect... almost ;)

LOL...Wow, that's completely the opposite example. Oprah's audience spans so many different demographics. You think Sprint wants to limit themselves to "tech geeks" getting this phone? Oprah having the phone on her show expands the limitations of who will get this phone.

BTW...Oprah's demographic ALSO includes RICH HOUSEWIVES, which also includes RICH HUSBANDS...Key word here, "Rich"...LOL.

You obviously haven't watched "The Secret" otherwise you'd understand. For those of you that have watched it, I'm positive you're positive :D

I just posted another one of her holding it. Yeah the quality is pretty bad i took it with my BB Tour :(, shows how much i need an EVO. I hate Oprah more for having it.

I wonder if that is a unfinished model, because it looks like something is in-graved on the side of the phone. Like some number code or something

I can tell you that the Evo forum here sure picked up big time, after CTIA. I can also tell you that Evo started showing up all over the place in other web blogs and tech rags. So, they are getting lots of free marketing mileage right now. How many folks here on the Evo forum have left for the Incredible? A couple have speculated, but I think maybe only 1 or 2 actually got one.

Sprint is going to make a comeback. Just watch and see.

Also, do we think we all understand the market better than Sprint, Verizon and Apple? We dabble in research on this topic, but they pay teams of top marketing folks a ton of money to get this right. Doesn't mean they wil, but I certainly feel they are more qualified than us to make a decision on release dates.

Besides, don't we have an Evo insider on here that has repeatedly said the phone is still in testing? Please oh smart phone gods, don't let Sprint ship the Evo until it is ready for prime time.

If anyone followed the Incredible thread, they went down a rabbit hole on release dates and folks kept getting more and more worked up over it. Rumors started about early release dates and everyone started working themselves into believing it was meant to be. Then they got mad at Verizon for letting them down.

Why is anyone slinging mud at Sprint? They made a nice early announcement at CTIA, which is what the Verizon/Incredible fans wanted but did not get. +1 for Sprint, right?

Then they showed it off as a working phone at CTIA. +2 for Sprint.

Then they give us a target release of Summer 2010. +3 for Sprint!

What did Verizon give the Incredible lovers? Nada.

If Sprint has a specific schedule/timeline for completing the phone and releasing it in the Summer, would you rather they never told us about it at all until right before release, or tell us like they did at CTIA?

In my very humble opinion (yeah, go ahead and chuckle ;)), I think Sprint has performed admirably and has not done a single thing to merit any bad marks on this Evo release.
Thanks, Norril. Very, very well stated. Everything you said about marketing is great. I might add one point about the EVO 4G being introduced at CTIA. Some people are bashing Sprint because they didn't release the phone soon after that event, but Sprint did say "Coming Summer 2010". I was so relieved when word came about the EVO 4G at CTIA. No, it wasn't released right away, but we had pictures, videos, spec sheets and a lot of media coverage. Up to that point, I was really antsy, starting with CES in January, then at WMC in February and nothing was said about the Supersonic. Finally at CTIA in March, we got confirmation and I thought it was great. Sprint said the phone wasn't quite ready yet and that was only five weeks ago. Now we're hearing that the phone should be released soon. Sprint has generated a lot of hype so far and now the general public will start hearing about it, so I don't see where Sprint has failed at all.

I think as long as we get a clear cut release date and maybe a few of those "features" they've been holding out on people will get over it. They really need to set a date though for sure.

HTC Incredible vs. HTC HD2

Now substitute the EVO for HD2 and what we have is WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER

I just got really hungry for KFC.

Every User's Dream - HTC EVO 4G Mobile Phone Accessories

This is what intrigued me the most in that article:

What the heck is that? I don't remember that ever being talked about anywhere.

SOunds like HTC may come out with their own signal boosters? that would be cool. I am getting a cell signal booster for my lake house. Essentially what it is, is a high power antenna that you mount on your roof, point it at the nearest tower, then it pumps that boosted signal into your house, so you get more bars.

This is the one I am getting:

Wi-Ex zBoost YX610-PCS/CEL Dual Band Wireless Extender (YX610-PCS/CEL) - Wireless Extenders - YX610-PCS-CEL - 186639000229

Boosts both data and voice. My lake house does not get Sprint signal, but Sprint can roam on the Verizon voice. Then I have a Verizon Palm Pixi with a data only plan and it also does wifi hotspot, so my Evo will wifi into the verizon phone and get it's data that way. You can't roam data networks between Sprint and Verizon, so that is why the 2 part setup.

I almost went with an Incredible, because of this setup, but since I need a separate cell modem for work, it lets me get the best of both networks.

Well, they've already got the Air Rave, which I love, but this would go on top of that and it's based on the 4G network?...Either way, sounds great to me.

My link is not for a 4g booster. There is no 4g up there to boost. I am boosting 3g/2g, to cover voice and my Verizon data network is all. Now if Walmart buys up some lake property and plops a store up there, maybe I'll get some WiMax out in the boonies :)

Sorry, should've made myself more clear. I was talking about Sprint. Just quoted you cuz we were talking about that link I posted for the 4G booster.

It definitely is not a finished model. They haven't put the final software into production.
