Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Back on topic now (even though we weren't that far off)
I think the Evo could really make people look at Sprint in a different way. And of course if future incarnations or successors are increasingly better and offer more....WOW! Sprint has the opportunity to better their customer service, phones, and everything, Now is the time for Sprint to "start fresh" and "reinvent themselves"

Actually I hate to admit this but Sprint is scarred. They are making some great moves and I hope for the best and think they will do well..

Clearwire is the company you need to keep an eye on in my opinion.. I would by stock in them pronto..

That is one thing I have been saying. They need to start the ad campaign ASAP! I have already seen a few Prince of Persia commercials. Since Sprint is "in bed" with Disney and the Prince of Persia movie they should throw a commercial in after one of the movie's commercials. Or even offer one free pass to see the movie when you buy your Evo or something descent like that. :)

They're probably trying to weigh how far in advance they should begin advertising, considering the effectiveness vs. cost. Who knows.

From the sounds of it, we're just going to see the "obvious" happen - the event on the 12th finally gives us the details we've been waiting for, possibly opening up the EVO to preorders.

On the 13th or soon after, the advertising campaign begins. Two or three weeks' worth of hype before the release to help bolster preorders makes sense. The preorders help to lock in customers right before the supposed iPhone announcement as well as getting the word out before the Apple hype machine inevitably drowns out Sprint, so it seems to make sense.

Who knows, though. With any luck, the 12th will reveal all. I'm definitely ready for some new official, legit, and consequential information.

queens?! i used to live there. neat-o.
i still do, even though I am hanging out in Paris for the week. :p

You guys are flirting with Banlandia...one is only holier than everyone else if he/she is followed as such. We have some big supporters of Jackson here. Before you guys showed up, Jackson was busting out info on the EVO NOT FOUND anywhere on the net, or anywhere else in the world.

Give the guy a break, huh?
Someone mentions Banlandia and its like the Bat signal, I appear. :D

I know this was last page, but its worth pointing out a few things.
First , I agree. I've said it before both in PMs, email and in the forum. I'll repeat it for the new members and those elder ones that still have an issue with jackson. For a long time now, he was the only one giving out credible info on the EVO. Whether he got that info from his friend Dan which works at Sprint (and no its not Dan Hesse), or gathering the info from numerous sources across the internet, he was one of the few that was able to do so at the time. He has been accused of many things and yet he still came through. Personally I do not care if he is a 10-16 year old as some claim or a college student of 24, he has proven himself and that is all that matters. Now a days the info is less, since most has been discovered.
One has to be on the other foot to see why it seems that he has an attitude. It started in the Sprint forums when he was giving out the info which no one else did. he was attacked there and the same person came over here to do the same. I too would have an attitude if I was giving out tidbits of information (regardless where I got it from) and was attacked about it left and right. Especially when most of the tidbits of information came out to be true. Would you have a chip on your shoulder, I bet most of you would too in his position. It might come across as smug or something else, but without seeing the full story, one would think thats the case.
As mentioned previously, its the Rumor and Speculation thread.
If people still have an issue with him, I would appreciate it not to do it on the forum out in the public. Another member did so and went too far. He was sent to Banlandia. Attack the message, not the messenger. Do it via pm or send your issue to the staff. Lets keep this thread on track and clean.

Hopefully, this is the last time I have to mention this.

Carry on.

TS out (back in Paris)

You know what is funny? I quit school in the 9th grade to help support my mom and me. If I can figure out what a good move is in the release and advertisement of a product why can't these experts with their degrees and high paying salaries figure it out? I am not a total idiot though, I did run my own business for 12 years and partnered in another :)

I actually said a few hundred posts ago..lol, that I thought they would start advertising the Evo with the P.O.P movie and separately around the 12th and definitely after.

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww snap! :D

I have a doctorate and COMPELTELY agree with you...btw, it makes me no smarter for business, trust me

Android 2.1.1 or 2.1 update 1 has been the last update since February the 3rd and is the current roll out for all phones, including the Hero and Moment.

Yeah those poor people. Sprint needs to throw them a freaking bone with the updates. They've been waiting on that 2.1 update for a long time. The word supposedly is "sometime in Q2"... Good luck

Sorry to post this again but not getting any replies on the other thread......

I just called Tmobile to ask them about my contract and make sure it was over. When I did the Rep asked me why I was asking. I told him I was going to switch to Sprint for the EVO and 4g network. At this point he was like... "WHATTT?!! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!!!" at which point I replied "Because the EVO is far Superior than any other phone that you offer and with the upcoming 4G network it will make it that much better!". He then went on to tell me that I should stick with TMOBILE and wait for the MY TOUCH 2, and that this phone was a combination of the EVO and HD2. (lol) He also told me about the HSPA+ network that TMOBILE is rolling out this year. He said that this network is FARRR faster than 4G or LTE, with download speeds peaking at 20mbps.!!! I thanked him for his time and went on the internetz and did a little looking around. I found a few articles on HSPA+.

Here's one link on PCMAG's site

From what I've read so far it seems true... HSPA+ will be faster than 4G/LTE.
I guess the only downside would be the 5GB cap on HSPA+ but its still to early to tell if they will even have a cap.
So my question is this... Has anyone here had any experience with HSPA+ and what are the advantages or disadvantages? Should I stick around and wait it out?? Or should I dive into the new 4G network and the EVO?

I think people are being objective for selfish reasons. Sprint has made mistakes and they want to see their company do well..

I have phone service with 12 companies.. I could care less if Sprint wins or loose.. I will still have coverage and phone options..

I think they have a good chance because I believe I am looking at the big picture with un clouded vision.

I can be wrong, but I am looking at a their potential 6-12-24 month road map and it looks good to me..

It is not Sprint that is causing the delay

Yes, no, maybe so

Right now on paper it looks faster but we will see in time..

It might be faster now but what happens when more users start to use it??

Where will you be able to use it??

How big will the network coverage be??

Can you roam using that network?? Will it be available out of the country? (might not be important to you I know)

Do you know anyone or have you seen any one post that they have consistently achieve those speeds? and where have they done so

get the EVO.

Guys, seriously....

Sprint is a billion dollar corporation. You don't get to be there unless you have SOME idea of what you're doing. Whether or not it's what we want, or how we think they should run their business, I guarantee you behind closed doors these same conversations have taken place a billion times. They have an idea and are going to go through with it.

Is there really a "best" way to market a phone? Not really.

Saying you know more than they on a internet forum is not really a great basis for an argument. It's like arguing why Ronaldo shouldn't have been traded to Real Madrid... It's happening (or happened rather) whether you like it or not. Bicker, whine, and fill up the a thread all you want, but Sprint isn't gonna pop on this forum and go, "you know guys, you are absolutely right, we've been idiots not following your marketing plan, and following the people we pay thousands of dollars."

Now granted I'm being a little mean and a bit harsh, but this marketing argument has been going on since the A9292, and it's a moot point.

Personally, I don't see the "fun" in arguing for a better marketing plan. A rumored release date, different specs, optional hardware -- awesome! But saying the company bringing you your dream phone is "stupid" or "idiotic" for following a marketing campaign that frankly - we don't even know what the hell it is yet!

If you have a PhD in marketing and want to try to explain what Sprint is doing, be my guest -- but to continue bringing up the (DEAD) discussion of; "Sprint you guys are stupid dummy heads," is rather pointless. I follow this thread for information on the Evo.

Ok, sorry for the rest of you who lurk or post for info, this was rather a rant.

I'll accept my probation now.

Yeah, I wouldn't put too much stock in these new plan rumors floating around. Sprint knows the one major advantage they have over every other carrier is their package prices. Just have to wait and see but I'm not concerned.

i'd start buying some stock if i were you. ;)

they're calling it a "bundle plan" and they will not be able to provision the evo unless we have this new plan. that's not to say there will be any cost differences, i don't know about pricing yet.

i'm in chicago and am getting this information from the manager of the store i buy my products from. he started training last week as the store "advocate" for the phone. this means that he's going to be the in-store go to person for questions related to the phone. he's also the person that confirmed for me several weeks ago that it would be released on 6/6.

this isn't a contest to see who can get the best info. out here for everyone to share. rather it's a forum to share information that might help everyone here that's excited about a fantastic new product. since this is the speculations thread.... we'll see what happens but this is pretty solid stuff. :D

I apologize if I spoke out of ignorance about the updates being delayed by sprint. Is it an HTC/android issue? Also I've heard things about the T-Mobile network as well but I have to agree with eieio on that one. Things always look better on paper.. Like the Jets this coming season :p Sorry NY fans. Anyway back to the EVO... Regardless of networks the EVO IMO is a superior phone hardware wise as well. The HD2 will be old when the windows 7 series comes out and the mytouch 2 wont have a bad ass 4.3" screen with a mother f-in kickstand lol

No, at the time the Moment was $99 at the Sprint store. So they will at times charge more for upgrade then Sprint will for upgrade. At least they do here in local stores. Couple months back at Radio Shack they had Pre's $29 for new customers, $179 for upgrade.
:eek:Thats just wrong of them..greedy aren't they. But your right. I have seen that as well.

I'm hoping for TFT as this will enable me to see it when outside. Then again I do live in Oregon and 9 months out of the year it is like living in a cave so OLED might be good too!

I think not seeing well with a OLED screen outside versus a TFT screen outside is overrated. Because honestly you can't see good with any screen outside if the backlight is not set right. That's the point of having it set to auto.

When your outside you have your light up so it can go against the light and in dark rooms, light stands out naturally so you would have it turned down. In the hybrid incredible thread the guy took pictures of the screen in direct light and it looked clear as day. TFT i'm sure handles it better but it is highly overrated when it comes to not being able to see.

Some people make it seem like you just can't see at all. Not saying your one of them. I just wanted to point it out in general. I think people would be just fine with whatever screen it comes with.

Best setting is auto because it knows when to light the screen in certain light and when to dim and it also saves battery. Cause I can promise people will have to adjust their light for the screen even with the TFT.

But besides all that I see it coming with the screen that's been on the prototypes . Wouldn't matter to me.

get off the computer and go enjoy Paris.
get on topic or Banlandia awaits. :D

its raining cats and dogs here, so I can't go out, stuck in the hotel. Damn Volcano. Anyway, although I'll be off in a few since i have to get up early. just catching up a bit in the forum now that I have wifi.

As for the post by keatre, I agree. We can cry and complain all we want, but Sprint has a plan. It may not be what we like, but its a plan none the less. Hopefully its the right marketing plan. :D

oh really? like Enron? WorldCom? or more recently - Bear Stearns? Lehman Brothers? corporate executives make mistakes all the time - and many times those mistakes are fatal. i also submit that one should never be overly impressed with academic credentials.

some of us here know a thing or two about business and have had some level of success. regardless - this is a discussion forum and a demand to stifle the discussion is what provides no value here.

I would if I really thought it was in his best interest.. But i do not believe T-mobile will be a major player against sprint..

I also believed at the end of the day after weighing their options T mobile will be using wimax for their 4g service later down the road, if Wimax 2 is rolled out..
