Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

This isn't quite the advertising we're expecting but it's something lol. I noticed it while browsing through an app on my iPod yesterday so surely it's on the iPhones of the world too

So I have somewhat of a random question. I have been looking up the specs on the EVO and the incredible. I remember a little while back that someone was saying the Incredibles specs were bumped up to 1GB of Ram and 768MB of Rom. The Evo will have 1GB of ROM and 512 of RAM. Where did the info on the Incredible come from?? On Verizons site and on HTC site they both state 512/512....did the bump in specs never happen?!

Thanks for that link!

Also, I found a wifi tether app called "Barnacle" that I posted about yesterday...unfortunately nobody responded to the thread LOL. But it looks promising and its completely free.

any loss of funtionality, like PDA.net's free version?

There is also Tether ( paid) which is supposed to have a Beta for Android. It worked very well on my blackberry.

Yea they got Web Ad Banners all over, hell I see it all the time on majority of the sites I go. Funny how you are showing it from your IPOD...you'd think Jobs would try to ban that any way possible lol.

Sprint/HTC/Google need to really get together and market this phone to its full potential.

The Verizon Droid commercials have kicked butt....and the new Incredible one is awesome.

Perhaps the ad/marketing plan is to let all the noise over iPhone at WWDC come out and then bump up the ad/marketing between WWDC and the iPhone release. June 4 release is going to get swallowed up by Apple media frenzy, and you can't put your hands on an Evo right now so maybe Sprint's thinking don't get overshadowed during pre-release.

I don't expect HTC to be a major advertiser because they are still an OEM trying to put out phones for all carriers and on two other major OS platforms. HTC's slogan is "Quietly brilliant."

Hi, I'm new here but have been following this thread and learning so much. I'm really looking forward to the 4th! I can't wait to get back with Sprint and with the EVO!

Qelcome to the forum! I'm pretty new too. Ever since I found out about this phone I've been warching videos and reading forums for 2 weeks. I already belonged to Sprint Users and now I have 2 more. I can't wait to get this phone. Glad things worked out for you. I have a frind who is also getting this phone and he's excited abolut switching from his BB Tour tour but he says I am obssesed. All I talk about is this phone and and spend al day and night in between work reading forums and watching videos and picking out apps for my phone at App Brain. I have a TP2 now and am just excited to try Android.

Well as far as HTC goes, they do have the "You" commercials, so I am sure they will throw the EVO in there at some point.

Google...with the failure of how they tried to web market the N1, should be the ones to get directly behind Sprint with marketing. The EVO is now the phone that you want to compete and try and steal iPhone sales.

But I agree, why go full blast marketing right now, when majority of users will be waiting to hear what WWDC says?

If this new iPhone is going to be released, but the EVO still beats it in all aspects...then you go full blast marketing to grab the customers that on the fence on which new phone they should buy.

No loss in functionality. There is a "pay" version, but it really just amounts to being a donation - no difference between the two.

The only drawback I saw was that it didn't have lots of options for naming the network, and not sure how secure it is. Some reviews I saw said the coverage it provided would sometimes gets flaky.

Does any one know if the EVO will be able to have the same gaming experience as say the iphone/ipod touch. By that I mean since it does have an accelerometer, will you be able to tilt the phone to say.. steer a car in a racing game or shake it to roll dice etc.?

Yes, it has an accelerometer in it. The biggest drawback to gaming will be the lack of big Android games in general, not a drawback of the Evo.

A new Android based Need for Speed (Shift maybe) will get released to Android on June 4th. I know it exists on the iPhone already, but I'll probably grab it just to see what this puppy can do :D

For me, with the blackberry, it is like 15 secs. Pop off the back cover, pull battery, insert card, battery cover, phone on.

Except that booting the damn thing takes forever. One reason I am moving away from Blackberry.

On that note. How long does an Android phone takes to boot??? <<---Ignore this, there is a thread for it...

EDIT - I noticed how this thread has slow down in the last week, no complaint here just an observation. I can actually catch up to it...

I only get 15% off monthly service when using my company discount at Sprint. Verizon gives us 22% off. Do you guys think it's possible I could take the Verizon sheet into Sprint and have them match this so I get 22% off my monthly bill?

There have been some folks in here who have been offerd %25 for knowing how to say the word discount... Ok exagerating there, but it may help your case if you told them, hey if you can match my VZW discount, they may say OK.

Dan Hesse wants people like you to switch!

TS do we have any confirmation that PDAnet will work with 4G as well as 3G on the phone? June fabrics isn't very good about information updates.

***EDIT***
Found this interesting, but I still don't have an answer about the 4G tethering

Sprint says it will allow PDAnet tethering on EVO 4G, suggests it will also allow built-in Wi-Fi mobile hotspot capability in 2.2 'Froyo' update for Android
***EDIT***
June fabrics emailed me back the other day when i asked them the same question, they said
Hi

Yes it should work just fine. PdaNet supports all android phones.

Thanks,

Release dates
Original: June 29, 2007
3G: July 11, 2008
3GS: June 19, 2009

Memory options
Original: 4, 8, & 16 GB
3G: 8 & 16 GB
3GS: 16 & 32 GB

I'm guessing that the iPhone of 3 years ago was pretty damn expensive ($399 or more is what I've found) for the 8GB let alone the 16GB model.

It's all about economics. For $199 the EVO with 8GB is good and you can freely upgrade when you feel like it

sorry i was off on the first iphone offering 4gb. ive never seen one but i guess they exist. the iphone of last year was 16gb as the base and was $199. so in a year we go down in memory. awesome

Hey everybody. I'm new here. I've owned a G1 for over a year now and I've just pre-ordered the EVO at Best Buy. The point of my post is something the Best Buy service agent said when I asked her when 4G would be coming to New York City. She said 4G would come to New York City by August. True?, I don't know. Maybe she was just trying to lock in that pre-order. However, it's just a little piece of info I wanted to throw out there for anyone left further in the dark than myself as to the arrival of 4G in New York City.....Chow fellow Evo future lovers.:o

Welcome! Word on the street is that 4G is damn near ready to roll in NYC, they just need to turn on the switch. I could be mistaken, however.

i am now currently posting this with 4G here in NYC. last night I took my slate (laptop to some of you) and my U301 3g/4G modem out on the road to see if there is 4G service elsewhere other than here at work.

The results are as follows...

Time of tests: 6:30 pm thru 9:30 pm
Leaving from South ozone Park up the Van Wyke to the LIE to BQE to Downtown Brooklyn and then into Wall St area.

South ozone park, No signal
Kew Gardens (Boro hall area) Good Signal
Flushing Meadows Park (Near LIE interchange) Good Signal
Williamsburg area, I get a signal but it fades away
MetroTech Downtown Brooklyn, No signal
Brooklyn Height, faded signal
Brooklyn Bridge, Good Signal
South Street Seaport Good Signal
Wall Street No signal

Bottom line, i know its being soft pushed here and there and they do not have all of the towers online or turn them on and off for testing purposes. here at work i believe i am getting the signal from Queens Boro Hall, but Sprint really needs to get this working around the city if they are going to promote the Hotspot of the EVO. Driving around the city yesterday, the signal would not stay put and kept going in and out of 4G.

TS out
