Just mean we are happy to have you here!!
Oh, shucks... I'm really happy to be here. Thanks...

Sorry Bill - edited my post and added the question:

how solid does the back cover feel while it's on the phone? Does it feel well assembled and as "snug" as the Hero and Nexus one?
When you remove the back cover it feels flimsy and flexible. It's very thin, but when it's on the phone it feels rock solid and it has a very nice feel. It doesn't have the rubbery coating or feel that my Hero has, but I like it.

Oh and a few questions for everyone:

the EVO will be my first Android phone ever, so I just wanted to know - who pushes out the Android updates? Is it the carrier or HTC? Also, given that the Nexus One is already getting the Froyo update, does that mean EVO's will be getting them too?

I'm just not sure how HTC or google or sprint handles android updates but it seems to take a pretty long time (given that their Hero and Moment devices finally just got the 2.1 update)

True. I was more embarrassed than anything because of what happened. I'm feeling better about the whole situation now.

Look at it this way. Half the folks here now, are "newbies" who have absolutely no clue what the hell we're talking about! :p The other half either joined you, floated between both, or don't give a rat's ass. So it's all good!

Currently, the carrier pushes out updates and has the final say. That will most likely change once Froyo is pushed out, since Google is changing underlying infrastructure to allow for future updates to come from them.

while i do believe this video is better quality, i think a good amount of it has to do with there being hardly any movement in that record, as supposed to most of the ones we've seen where the recorder guy is going left to right at a rapid pace, not letting us see a good still video.

YouTube - San Francisco in 720p on EVO 4G #2

Quality looks good on this (aside from the shaky hand :D)

this video DOES look better than the other EVO videos. maybe this guy played with the settings a little, maybe the lighting is a little more favorable, but this does look closer to what i'd call "high definition" (jerkiness aside).

From what I understand, HTC readies the updates and passes them onto Sprint. About a month after I got the Hero, I received a message that there was an update and that was handled on the spot. For the Android 2.1 update that just came out for the hero, you had to download two executable files from HTC or from Sprint. I downloaded the files, but didn't do the update, because I got the EVO the same day. My understanding was that you'd connect the phone to your computer through the USB cable and do the update that way. It seems like the update for 2.2 might work the same way, unless the EVO has been worked on to accept an OTA update. I'm not sure.

People are real anxious for the 2.2 update, because it includes the JIT compiler for the first time in Android and apparently, it makes the thing fly. Especially for games and smoother video streaming, etc.

I'm going to be leaving soon to run some errands and to take some pictures and video with the EVO. There are a lot of setting for both the camera and the camcorder, so I imagine it will take some getting used to, to produce the best quality. I'll be experimenting with that today.

I'm going to ask here since it's a rumor.

To the people who claimed to get a credit for the premium fee, what did you tel the customer service rep?

I WISH Sprint TV worked over WiFi!!!!

i keep seeing quotes like this regarding sprint tv and wifi...am i missing something...i'm currently on a wifi signal with my pre and watching sprint tv live on my pre....is this referring to something else?

To Bill or anyone else who has a phone: it was mentioned that the power button was kind of a pain, and from the description, it sounds similar to the Instinct's power button. Is this accurate? I have put up with that one for 2 years. :o

when i called sprint and asked for the credit, it was the day after the mandatory $10/month was announced. so the rep barely knew about it. i explained that i wasn't going to pay for a first class seat for a plane that only had coach seats. :-) she laughed and said, "yeah, it doesn't seem fair to pay $10/month when your city doesn't have 4G."

so she passed me to someone else. before the transfer she said, slowly, "tell them you could always go to ATT and get an iphone." then she repeated it. i got the picture.

the person she transferred me to to immediately said, "would i solve your problem by giving you $10 off per month for 24 months?" i said yes and then asked about the $70 credit, which he gave me.

question:

for the EVO, do people recommend a case, a screen protector or both?

i have screen protectors for my expensive canon DSLR screen and it is a pain in the rear.

afaik, none of my friends with iphones use screen protectors.

thanks for the advice.

On Android, Sprint TV doesn't work over Wifi.
I sure wish it did.

Regardless, Sprint TV looks good on the EVO using 3G. :)

much appreciation for your reply....i'm glad you said it looks good on 3g, bcuz your comment is the first positive one about sprint tv on the evo...all the others i've seen have complained about lag and grainy frames....i use it alot and was hoping it would be a dramatic improvement over all the other phones i've used it on

Just called BB by me. Rep said they'll call the day before and set me up with an appointment. I cant believe all BB preorders get a free Plantronics Bluetooth. I was like "say that again". She said its free with preorder. She didnt know what model but who cares its free !!!! Glad i didnt go the Shack

EDIT: Its a Plantronics 230 ($40 value)

Not the best bluetooth but it is free. I may sell it for a Jawbone or something else.
