Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Just got back from a road trip over the memorial weekend and got a chance to get caught up on the thread. Didn't read much about BB calling everyone for appointments. I got a call while I was on the road from my BB and even though I was #33 on a list of 35 I was able to get an appointment for 8:30am Friday. They're going to have 4 guys working the appointments starting at 8am and giving everyone a half hour with their rep. So they're doing 8 per hour. Hope it works out as smoothly as they're saying. Just 3 more days! :D

Hey Bek- you actually have phone in hand right? I hear its fast as hell; wondering if thats what is causing the mem card error. Similer to when Win98 was shut down too fast? I wonder if putting in class 6 card would make the difference? With the autoterminator and all that? Again I don't have the phone in hand so I'm shooting in the dark. Also keep in mind just because it says that it is a class 6 does not mean it is as fast as some class 4-look at Sandisk Extreme cards....Hope it helps...will trouble shoot more on Friday when I get mine

That's one possible theory, which is why I'd like to hear from folks who may be having issues with the non-stock SD card.

And there's an SD Speed Test app, which I use as a simple smoke test since it does a 200 meg write then read operation for its speed test.

When Sprint first showed us the EVO, I clearly remember them saying that the phone supported hot spot. Sprint conveniently (or not) forgot to tell us that there would be a cost associated with having the hot spot. $29.99 is cheaper than other alternatives, but it is still $29.99 more than free.

Then Sprint mentioned that the front facing camera would be able to be used with the Qik application. Here again, I don't remember Sprint saying anything about the $5 for using the Qik application.

I wonder what else Sprint is not telling us and will start charging for? They might even say that Froyo is there, but if you give $print $$, they will provide you with the means to update...

I know things move fast around here, but the $5 charge thing for Qik was overblown a bit. Their basic 2 way video calling will be free, but their "premium" services which will be unveiled on June 4th will cost$5 per month. As far as the hotspot thing, I don't think anybody thought that would be free, did they? $30 is pretty competitively priced, considering their hotspot devices and plans are $60/month.

WSell i broke down and done it .. ordered both hubby and i a screen protector..Chose Zagg, what a good deal .. was going to go regular shipping and broke down and got ups ground ..:D

I know everyone is trying to take advantage of the 50% off sale; however I would do a little research first. I personally will never order another Zagg screen protector, not because it isn't quality matierial, but becuase it leaves a resedue (orange peel effect) and over time it becomes tacky and hard to glide your fingers accross your screen. I made the same suggestion to a freind of mine. He bought the HERO a month after I switched over to my HERO (couldn't stand the Pre's hardware issues anymore + wanted to see what all the hub-bub was about) and his Zagg protector cost him approximately $20 and lasted him 3 weeks and he took it off because it just became a hassle to use his phone. I would greatly suggest Ghost-Armor. It's a thinner skin, it still protects your phone and stays on forever.... Just my $0.02

I assume that you've had experience with the Ghost-Armor skin? How well does it work on the screen for tactile feel and smoothness to let your finger glide over the screen? I guess you'd call the tackiness of the skin.

Can anyone confirm how much the Evo will cost with an upgrade eligibiltiy? I have heard 199.99 or 299.99? But I would like to have it confirmed.

I had the ZAGG on my Touch Pro2 and found it had a negative impact on screen sensitivity and even after several months, it felt a bit tacky and my finger would not move smoothly over it.

If you're a Premier customer with only partial ($75) upgrade eligibility, you are not eligible for the MIR. That would be $375 total for the phone.

If you have the full $150 upgrade eligibility, it will be $199 for the phone after MIR ($299 out of pocket, $100 returned via mail), or instant rebate at BB/RS ($199 out of pocket).

Premier customers don't have the $75 upgrade cause we get our full upgrade after a year which is what a non Premier would get after a year. The $75 is for a full upgrade with a 1 year contract.

What you meant, right?

Actually yes. Typing too fast.

What I did mean to say though was that non Premier customers are eligible for the $75 partial upgrade after a year into the contract but have to sign a two year deal. After two years they are eligible for a full upgrade with a new 2 year deal or $75 with a new 1 year deal.

My first phone (I joined Sprint April 12th last year, so first phone w/ Sprint) was an Insticnt S30 (garbage) and bought the Zagg Invisashield for it.. no more than a few days later the screen felt like an old orange peel, a week or two later and the screen its self began changing color and started to peel. I always keep my phones in the best condistion possible so that I can sell them once upgrade season rolls around. Needless to say, I sold my S30 just a few weeks later cause the Pre launched and I bought Ghost -Armor and it was a perfect marrige. The skin stayed on for months. I also owned the touchstone and the backplate that goes on the Pre its self was a rubberized back and the skin still latched on like glue.

I went golfing with my brother and took out my Pre to show it off to my iphone lover and brother and in doing so droped it from just below waist high (my pocket) and the skin looked pulled and the phone even looked chiped. I peeled back the skin to find the skin was damaged, but the phone looked spotless. I will only order Ghost-Armor period. It's a thinner skin and I know that its not quite as protective as Zagg, but I'd rather have somthing that A.) isn't noticable & B.) stays on to actually potect the phone.

Pro's: No tacky feeling, stays on longer, when completly dry can't tell it's on. It's a thinner skin so don't try and take a knife to it like the youtube video's depicte you can do with a Zagg skin, but protects from objects found in your pocket or purse.

Cons:
Not as thick as Zagg, less protection

Thanks, I really appreciate the additional info. You've sold me! :)

Interesting. I'm a Premier customer, Sprint made it clear that this year I am only eligible for the $75 upgrade with no MIR and have to wait until the two year mark for the full upgrade, and that nonPremier customers don't get any upgrade until 2 years.

If you have a shared plan and are the primary phone on the account, you are entitled to a phone upgrade every 12 months. This is from Sprint about the Premier benefit

"To thank you for choosing us, we treat you to incredible savings on primary phone upgrades every 12 months--10 months earlier than our standard offers (requires a 2-year service agreement). We also waive the upgrade fee, and, if you upgrade online, you can forget the shipping and activation fees. "

The key is that your number has to be the primary number of a multi phone account. Mine wasn't and I had to wait three months after switching numbers around in the account to make mine the primary and get the 12 month upgrade! Fortunately I did it just prior to the EVO announcement! :D

I went ahead and bought a Ghost-Amour a few minutes ago also.

I had checked into them a couple of weeks ago and wasn't sure how good or dependable they were. I emailed them about the EVO skin availability since it hadn't been released yet and this is what I got back from customer service. So it may be a few weeks before they start shipping.

"We have things set up so that when the phone is about to come out we get it a little earlier then the regular consumer, so that we can develop a kit for the phone. You Pre-Order it now and get the savings. then once the phone is released we ship your kit to you.

Wow, played with one at a Sprint store on lunch, they just got it in Fri. Ran it through the paces, great phone. I'm even more excited to have mine in my hands!

After I ordered mine, I couldn't log into the website anymore, so I e-mailed them and they told me that the GA wouldn't come BUT, I got it in the mail last week. YMMV

Interesting, I ordered mine Saturday so I was curious when it would come in the mail. Hopefully I get it around Thursday or so.
