Their Market share has dropped slightly becuse of the vast influx of Android devices flooding the Market. There's a new one dropping every hour. The iPhone on the other hand is a lone wolf.

Apple's iPhone will rein king for some time. I say the only way to knock Apple off it's perch is if a manufacturer follows their business model. Pick one handset from their Android line-up and make it their flag ship. Every year continue to evolve it.

You hit the nail on the head, well said and I agree completely....the battle between number one and number two!

This device and manufacture may be the beginning of this process.

Ironic thing is: Apple relies heavily on Samsung for iPhone components. Now that Sammy is playing hardball, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them cut Apple off and force Apple to take lesser components for the next iPhone. Apple will be playing catch-up into perpetuity, with more and more fanboys and gals - fed up with sub-par components - switching to Android for its quality.

Apple is already going to others for their components......last I read they were not getting anything from them anymore. somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.

OH NO... not ANOTHER one!

Exclusive: Motorola Spyder (Droid RAZR for Verizon?) features industry-first qHD Super AMOLED display, LTE, dual-core processor | This is my next...

How many new phones are we expected to track??? It's already confusing enough!

EDIT: If they're going to dredge up old phone names, why not start over and call it the Droid StarTac? :p

Interesting. Now Moto seems to be using Super AMOLED from Samsung in this phone according to this report. It looks like what Bionic should have been, slimmer and faster. Now I wonder what Bionic fans would say about pentile LCD vs Super AMOLED.

Motorola DROID RAZR is real, and allegedly sports a qHD Super AMOLED screen, Kevlar chassis

maybe OMAP 4470 (with the new PowerVr SGX544), maybe Qualcomm MSM8960 (first Krait 28nm-processor with the new Adreno 225 GPU), maybe Tegra 3: Kal-El (not impossible :D), maybe Samsungs own Exynos processor (just higher clocked) OR maybe even a brandnew Samsung owned Soc... remember when it's called Samsung Galaxy Nexus, it'll be like the Samsung Galaxy 2.5 and as we know every galaxy-flagship has got its own samsung-soc...

i could imagine a samsung-soc with dualcore 1.5-1.8 GHz and PowerVr SGX544MP2 (yeah 2x SGX544; why? cause the iphone 5's A5 will have 2x SGX543 which is nearly equal, and the Prime is meant to destroy the iphone 5)

but i can't imagine the prime to come with a stupid 4430... that would definitely make NO SENSE!

edit: or maybe some new mobile Soc by Intel? ;D

I still believe OMAP 4460 will power the Prime phones. At this point, it should be pretty much set in stone, design and manufacture wise. Those awesome processors you mentioned will probably appear in phones next year and ICS will be ported to them. As for Sammy's own SoC, I saw somewhere that they are preparing 2Ghz quad core Exynos for SGSIII.

But I think I will be just fine with OMAP 4460 (or Exynos), 1Gb RAM, ICS for next two years. It's gonna take good while until apps will fully utilize quad core APs. And we probably won't see quad core phones here until summer next year.

maybe you're right but remember... archos had problems with the 4460 and their first tablets with it are coming out next year... and i don't think their problem was archos' fault... so there has to be a problem with the SoC...

and if Archos can't fix it, google probably won't , too...

i don't want to wait for the prime until next year...

also i'd like the prime 2 come with a new / way better GPU [Omap 4460: Still PowerVr SGX540; Omap 4470: New PowerVr SGX544]...

i'm just saying, the prime is expected to be the best phone out there, but i don't think that it will be able to beat the SGS2 with just an Omap 4460...

maybe it will, i don't know, we haven't seen any benchmarks with the 4460, but i think it's very unlikely...

[Remember: The SGS2's Exynos SoC comes with an ARM Mali 400MP4 [So 4 GPU-Cores... and this quadcore-gpu beats the PowerVr SGX540 (Source) of the LG Optimus 3D (for example), the SGS2's GPU is twice as fast as the Optimus 3D's... and the SGX540 of the 4460 is only clocked ~ 30% clocked higher...]

Edit: But yeah you're totally right, i will take at least 1 whole year until Games and Apps require the full power of Dual-Core-SoCs... and another 1-2 years until they can use the full power of quadcore-chips...

you can still play nearly every game on e.g. a Samsung Galaxy S (1 GHz Single Core; PowerVr SGX540)

Benchmarks are just that, though: benchmarks. If both phones are pretty much real-time response, they're just degrees of speed after that. I think the average user really won't care if one benchmarks over the other, as long as both deliver a buttery-smooth, instant response to commands. Display and memory will be the big sell at that point. If the phone will hold its own a good 2 years, no reason for me to wait for a faster benchmark.

"I want the one with the bigger GBs..." :p

microsdxc - new microSD-Cards with up to 2 TB (yeah TerraByte) of storage..

do you think the nexus prime will support those microsdxc-cards?

it would be very nice to have up to 2 TB of storage on a mobile device...
imagine how many movies and games you could have... and i mean you've got a 720p display, so you'd need more storage if you want to enjoy all your movies in real 720p... a movie in 720p is (i guess) about 4GB... a standart microSDHC had a maximum capacy of 32GB...

[i was planning to get all How-I-Met-Your-Mother Seasons & Episodes onto my smartphone (with dual audio - 1. english 2. german) with the support of microsdxc i could do this with a resolution of 720p :)]

as the nexus is meant to set new standarts of the upcoming devices, microsdxc-support is very likely isn't it?

2TB is a little obnoxious, seeing as though I have 640 GB on my main computer and slightly less than 2TB on my server...then again I would probably never watch a movie on my phone, so maybe people do need it.

Apparently I have absolutely no loyalty to as-yet unreleased phones because I might just have to wait for this. Why? Kevlar, Gorilla Glass, and a splash guard coating...whatever that is.

I am very hard on my electronic devices. :o

I didn't think they would, but apparently newer phones can at least read the 64GB SDXC cards:

http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/394162-64gb-micro-sd-work-phone.html#post3222317

2TB??? Not sure about that kind of staggering memory... not that it's invented yet anyway...

nice to know that :)

64GB is (at least) twice as much as the microSDHC maximum of 32GB (yeah i know my math skills are amazing :D)

but the important question is: How fast are those new SD-Cards?

microSDHC was avaiable up to class 10 though most microSDHC-cards were only class 4 or class 6...

If this phone is to be a beast, verizon had a stake in keeping it quiet too. If the phone is a beast, and conclusive and confirmed specs leaked on it, who would have bought the Bionic? The Bionic was a big release for vz. My opinion anyway...

Kind of unrelated but if this phone was going to be a big launch, and I was verizon, I would be crapping in my pants right now over the lawsuits threatening to block the SGSII or whatever in the US. Surely that's why they're stepping into that lawsuit. This phone would probably be next on apple's list to get an injunction on.

Joe

I have to wonder how their siding with Samsung is going to affect their agreement to sell iPhones. It's probably a locked-in contract now, but I bet Apple will think twice about releasing iPhone 6 on VZW.

I'm still glad Verizon took the right side, and that Sammy is taking the kid gloves off.

I truly don't understand why there isn't anything SOLID about the Prime. In the past, I believe when we were this close (a few months out) there has ALWAYS been something.....this has all been so speculative. Not the norm.....not at all. Concerned???

Do you suspect both phones - with release dates - are vaporware?

It's easy to think that, but I try to remain positive that Han's sister and the Panda know something... and it's epic.

They are vaporware...only thing we have is WiFi and Bluetooth certs along with model numbers. Couple that with rumor and absolutely no pics or FCC clearance.

It's vaporware until something concrete shows up in my personal opinion. Heck the Moto Droid RAZR is already appearing with pics so we know it's real. i1950 and i515 are nothing more than rumor and speculation. I've been around too darn long to believe rumor without physical verification at this stage.

Vaporware.....................

Correct me if i am WAY off base here but...............

With absolutely no info about the "Prime", VZW skips over the Sammy SGII, and it is rumored that we all (Moto owners) will be very happy with the new VZW release.............

Could it be that the phone VZW is going to have in place of the SGII is the newest Moto phone, the RAZR ??????

It does have very similar specs to the SGII and as others have said, VZW and Moto are best friends.

Talking out loud.....................

Then there is maybe the "Prime" on another carrier......... :(:(
