***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Edit:

well.. I know the other threads are more for questions like this...

ok here it goes.

I was one of those ppl who considered the Bionic... until I went to try it out in the store and the screen made me want to vomit. Compared to my X... it was horrible. I'm a photog on the side and so image quality is pretty important to me. I LOVE the way images look on my X.

SO.. does anyone have a CLUE how the GNP will compare? I guess I am confused by the pentile thing... I just need some plain english!

Okay, I don't know much about the technical details, but because of the way it's laid out, PenTile on a qHD screen has a "screen door" effect that makes a lot of people want to vomit or gives headaches. But the upside is that it has a lot more white pixels, so it's super bright and easy to read if you're outside in direct sunlight.

On the GNP, we're not sure if it will be PenTile or not, but we think that if it is, maybe since it's AMOLED (the type of screen, although I don't know what it means) and also a much higher resolution, that it will eliminate the screen door effect.

Also, Samsung is known for their awesome screens, and we're pretty sure that they're not going to throw away their reputation in that department on such an important device. So I don't think you have to worry.

Pentile has more to do with the screen on the phone. All indications have shown a dual LED flash for the camera and an accelerated sensor, thanks to ICS, for the GNP, so it should take very good quality, if not excellent. However, that is pure speculation on my part from what I have read. If it ends up with an 8MP camera, you will be more than satisfied, I'll bet anyway.

I see I missed part of what you were asking. The pentile screen should not affect image quality on the screen, unless you are viewing pics taken with an HD lens at very close range. Indications are that the screen view is top notch, so it should be as good or better than your X.

I think it's interesting that pre-orders for the RAZR are starting 10-27 but for the release they only said November. I can't imagine them waiting too long after pre-orders start to release it but the fact that they didn't give a hard date makes me think that release dates for all their big upcoming phones (Nexus, RAZR, and Vigor) are still up in the air a little.

Thats what I am asking about.. the screen, not the camera.

I want the images that I look at ( while surfing ) to look like they are supposed to. they look wonderful on the X... I compared the same site on my X and the Bionic and there was a definite difference! The X was WAY better. Thats the main reason I passed on the bionic ( so glad I did now!)

Now even the official Verizon statement doesn't specify an exact release date:

Verizon unveils DROID RAZR by Motorola, pre-orders begin October 27th for $299.99

Why?

(Not that I care about the RAZR's release date, but if it's Nov. 10, then I think we can assume the 3-phones-on-1-day thing and quietly pick up our Galnexusauruses while the other people are busy fiddling with their RAZR's and Rezounds (Man, Verizon sure likes their Z's, don't they?)

That's just Verizon being Verizon, I guess.

I will give it to Apple on the fact that when they give a presentation about the new iPhone, they say "Here it is, here are all of the carriers, you can preorder on THIS date, and it will be available on THIS date."

None of this nebulous "early November" or "soon" or "imminent" bullcrap that we keep getting fed.

If I remember right, the Xperia play was released on the same day as the Windows 7 phone and earlier or later that same week came the LG Revolution. Also the X 2 was released around that same time

pre-ordering a phone with no official release is really just silly. i won't be ordering anything with no release date on record.

There are just too many confirmations out there about November 3rd for me to lose hope about the Nexus. Pre-orders? Fine & dandy... as long as I can skip into the store Launch morning and walk out a proud owner of a shiny flashy and BRAND NEW NEXUS!

I was editing my post as you were typing this one. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I hope I have answered your question in the edit.

I agree. I think they probably had a date in mind but they're still trying to to figure out how to handle all these phones so they didn't want to give a specific date yet. We have been hearing conflicting reports between 11-3 and 11-10 for the Nexus and Stephen's source mentioned (last week?) that dates could still change. I bet they still haven't figured it all out yet.

I know. Apple gives great presentations. I mean, if they can convince people to buy the 4S all basically hinging on an app (Siri), they're doing a great job.

Hey Guys,

I'm sure you already know but a few minutes ago Steven Kondik (Better known as Cyanogen, because he invented Cyanogen Mod) recently shared this on G+

"Anonymous CM member Spills the beans on the Nexus Prime

I promised I wouldn't fold to pressure, but here you go:

With less than a day before launch, this anonymous Cyanogenmod member, who is remaining anonymous for their career safety, was caught in a Google+ Hangout late last night. After a few drinks with fellow Team Douche members, this team member divulged the path with which the next Stock Android device has come to fruition.
As you may or may not know, the CyanogenMod team has been working very closely with Google over the past 2 months. Google, who acknowledged the combined experience and technical knowledge of the development team, decided to bring in the CyanogenMod team to help design, develop, and deploy the next Nexus device.
Shortly after the interaction began, rumors started flooding in about the next Nexus, none of which were true. Claims that LG was going to be involved, claims that nVidia would be involved, and claims that it would be a Verizon Wireless exclusive was just more than the team could bear. So, the team did what they do best; they trolled the Internet.
The leaks started to turn, universally, towards a “Nexus Prime”. The name had come forth out of a complete and total joke, but spread like wildfire. Bloggers across the world picked this name up from their “sources close to the action”. Before long, the name was synonymous with the device, despite there never being any proof that this was the name.
As for what our drunken would-be leak let slip about the device, we’ve been told to expect Google to unveil a phone that docks into a tablet, that docks into a television, completing the three screen approach to taking over the house with Android. Accessories for the device will include a sliding keyboard dock, a kinetic recharger commonly seen with flashlights, and a car mount with a personal QR code projector.
The CyanogenMod developer team has been given early access to the next device from Google, and as a result the phone will come shipped with a dual boot the phone between stock Android and CyanogenMod 9. Since the Google team recognized the CM team as being the only legitimate open source developer group, the bootloader will be locked to everything else.

I'm sure this is what most of "us" are looking for... :D

Thanks to superpooperduper from the IRC.

This means Verizon won't ever allow an unlocked bootloader from anyone, basically, regardless of Moto's "promises".

Gives me an uneasy feeling about the Galnexusaurus. I suppose we will see tonight.

Jim Jones was the best Kool Aid salesman to ever walk the earth. Apple knows how to market their products because they have identified their target demographic very well. Android lovers are much more diverse to drink the "Kool Aid"

...annnnd the RAZR gets a pass from me. Too bad, I was looking for the Prime anyway but was hoping to have the RAZR has a backup plan. Guess it's the Prime or nothing.

I'm guessing the release date will be announced before the preorders start. Probably after tonight's announcement is out of the way.
