something we all knew to most likely be the case, with this being a nexus and all, but BMX just tweeted this...

interesting he makes sure to state it was one of googles "must haves", but it shows vzw agrees to this long ago

the nice thing about this is that it's further confirmation that VZW won't be mucking with the phone.

Well, ICS is reported to be coming in Feb to Razr. And, once Google owns Moto, i bet it will pressure Moto to get updates out quickly.

Agree with you 100%, but as I posted over in the RAZR forum, I feel a battle of good vs evil is happening with you HK! Come back to us husker!

The problem with that thinking is you have Verizon to deal with and they have to approve of these update's also. Verizon love's to drag their feet.

Guys I tried searching for this in other threads, etc., but haven't found an answer.

With this storage issue, a lot of people are talking about syncing stuff "from the cloud". I was wondering, can you really store movies, apps, documents, ebooks, etc. "in the cloud"? And if so, can someone give me a link where I can sign up (I know it's not free). I was just wondering how comprehensive it is.

I just got a Google Music account started and am uploading about 1,200 songs and seminar segments that I need for work. (It's uploaded 5 files so far. . it's going to take a long while.)

Edit: And yeah, I thought about creating another thread for this or posting it somewhere else, but everyone seems to be stuck in here just hitting F5, and if we can talk about cable companies broadcasting in 720p and 1080i, I think we can talk about this.) :p

For backups docs and stuff like that there are an few options I can think of. you can try either dropbox or box.net. dropbox i think give you 5 or 10 gigs free of online storage. I have box.net when i bought an cheap touchpad , i got 50 free gigs of online storage. Both options have androids app on the marketplace.

As far as music goes you should take an look at the amazon mp3 option i dont recall how much it is, if you buy an album from them i think they up the limit to 20 gigs, dont quote me on that tho.

Google was present at the RAZR event. Show of support already....

The main thing I'm looking forward to from the probably Google acquisition of Moto is that their phones run with no custom skins. Just vanilla Android and whatever demands the carrier has (locked bootloader, restricted tethering, bloatware, etc.). Face it, without giving in to the demands, local carriers aren't going to pick them up. But, getting devices like the Droid 3, or the Droid RAZR with stock Android and faster updates would be nice.

Thanks. I'm going to stick with Google Music because it's free (for now) and allows me to upload 20,000 songs at this point. I think I might have about 1500 total, so no big deal.

Will Google docs let you store dozens of huge pdf files? I know that ebooks take up only a very small amount of space, but on a screen this big, I'd like to be able to read stuff for work on the train instead of carrying around my iPad or laptop.

Amazon has an free part also i am just not sure how much music it is maybe 5 or 10 gigs.

Not sure on the google docs thing, dont really use it that much. Can you put huge pdf files into say dropbox? I think you will actually have to manually download it from dropbox on to your phone which may be counter productive

Interesting, since only about 14.7gb is free to begin with, so only 1.7gb taken for ICS allocation, firmware and stock apps? Seems low, but good none the less.

14.896GB is the actual "available" storage in a 16GB drive. Remember, there are two user available partitions on the device, the "internal" and the "mountable" storage. If you're saying that there is roughly 14.7GB available to the user, then that means about 200MB formatted for firmware and included apps, which makes sense.

Just wanted to mention that the 14.9GB figure applies to devices advertised as disk equivalents (real HDs, SSDs, USB flash drives) and is just the binary equivalent of a decimal 16 billion bytes -- see gibibyte.

IIRC, internal NAND memory is measured like RAM, so you'd have closer to a full 16GB binary available even after formatting. Can someone else confirm this?

On a separate note... Think I need a little time off here. After a couple of awkward exchanges lately it's probably good for me to de-Nexify for a few days and catch up on real life. I'll check back in, hopefully before the thread gets locked. Sweet dreams all you GNexers! (well at least the VZW ones for now, heh)

I use Google Music and G+ for pics (Picasa). That knocks out 90% of the big ticket items for me that would rob local storage. I just pin and unpin which stuff I want locally and roll like that with the music.

I would be fine with a locked bootloader if it was a vanilla device and updates would come right from google. Most of the reason people root and rom is to get rid of the skins and get their device up to date. It would be a win win for verizon and everyone to stop skinning their phones and let google handle the software and the companies handle the hardware.

So I guess now I know why CK isn't here. . .he's been posting on the RAZR forum that he's definitely going to get that phone and will be passing on the SGN because of it's sucky build quality. . .

That's too bad. Now I have no one to fight with. :(

He can have the RAZR. OMAP4430, non-removable battery, Gingerbread, qHD display...

He was the one mucking up this thread with his negativity, and we finally get an announcement and now he doesn't even want it?

I agree but if the oem's are getting them to verizon faster and less buggy it wont take as long as it does now since the oem's also seem to drag their feet with updates.
I agree that the OEMs are the biggest problem. Usually, it's the mfrs that drag thier feet, not the carriers.

And if by "drag thier feet", means checking stability and correcting bugs, I don't inherently have that much issue with it. Verizon was right to reject alot of builds provided to them by the mfr. I know one build for the DX that had AT&T plastered all over the wifi hotspot app. How'd that look for Verizon if thier internal testing didn't catch that?

I use google music and amazon music storage(not sure what it's called) for music google docs for documents and minus for everything else. Minus gives you 10 gb for signing up and you can earn more. It also has an android app. Dropbox is good also but you only get 5 gb free.
