This may be a re-post not sure I did see some talk along the lines of this earlier but not sure if this was linked. So sorry if it is.

Found this over on XDA its pretty interesting stuff about locking up our phones.
It is Illegal for Verizon to Lock Some Bootloaders | xda-developers

Will most likely be circumvented by Verizon stating that Motorola is actually responsible for locking the phones (prior to them leaving the factory). Then the fact is that Verizon never locked the phone even though Motorola locked it at their request.

Laws are only made for the convenience of those in power, even if one fails to comprehend who that really is.

Yeap - I don't know how that works, or what the numbers come out to.

But the big news there settles any doubt for those that were unsure:

- Source going into AOSP code repository available for use by anyone -

- Immediate return on the whole rendezvous promised for phones and tablets -

moto =/= google <--- that deal isn't final yet, so yep, this is a big enough announcement

Especially for the Gnex'rs that have been posting about wanting a custom rom.

all I read from that is vzw is getting more ics love while the rest of us got nothing haha

I get "sorry that page doesn't exist"

the link is broken because motorola realized they shouldnt have said that and deleted it. heres what it said...

ics-6-weeks.jpg

edit: under my interpretation of what this says, it sounds to me like new phones will be coming pre-loaded with ICS 6 weeks after release, not upgrades to current devices, but that could just be the way i read into it

Honestly RAZR isn't even my 2nd choice. Rezound is sitting in 2nd for this guy...

i think that goes for me too. very interested to see what they do with the "beats by dre" audio enhancements, as i listen to mp3s a lot of time from my phone.

i'm gonna have to figure out how to root and unlock this thing - i absolutely suck at using ADB/SDK!! hopefully it's as easy as it was to root and unlock the OG...

I haven't even taken a shot at those. My DInc is rooted thanks to the awesome people of unrevoked.com.
I have a feeling the Gnex will be my first foray into adb/SDK.
(I'm also wondering how far Steven is from me for when I panic. Lol)

Honestly RAZR isn't even my 2nd choice. VIGOR is sitting in 2nd for this guy...

Me too.
Fify too. ;)

The tweet moto said( which people took the wrong way) said they would announce more devices that would be upgraded to ics 6 weeks after ics is launched. Everyone jumped the gun and said it meant within 6 weeks after the razr xoom, and bionic would get ics which is not what it meant.

Moto clarified their tweet according to DL:

Update: We received a clarification on this Tweet from Motorola. They do not plan to have Ice Cream Sandwich on devices 6 weeks after the new OS is released. Instead, they plan to announce a timeline for ICS updates within 6 weeks of Google releasing it. So that means that the DROID RAZR, Bionic and XOOM will be given time lines some time within 6 weeks of the ICS release. That make sense? Don’t expect Android 4.0 by the end of the year – expect Moto to announce when they will have it ready.

So...they'll give you a time frame in 6 weeks. Knowing their history, I wouldn't expect to see it until late 1st quarter 2012 at the earliest.

Don't expect anything amazing. Beats are pure marketing. They are not very good headphones nor are they a good line in-general.

Nope thats not the one. I linked it wrong. Im posting from mobile but it essentially clarified the tweet saying it would be released for xoom razr and bionic 6 weeks after google sends it out with other devices to be announced later.

Cant link it sorry gents. Im out

Edit: so theres confusion no mention of it coming end of year. Still looking at jan/february. Which is nothing new.

well sir, as someone who owns a pair of their $300 studio line headphones, i have to disagree with you. they are some of the best headphones i have ever owned, and have better mid-range and certainly more low end response than any others i have heard in that price range.

I think my touchpad has the beats audio built in I can't tell the difference but I am not what you would call an audiophile.

I'm starting to get a sense that this is beginning a Moto/htc vs Gnex thread. Personally, I don't want it. Here's why. It's only going to get ugly.

They're all good phones with their pluses and minuses. I don't mind those comparative-type posts, but Early and I are going to watch a bit closer for anything that resembles personal posts and/or baiting.

Keep it lovey dovey in here, k? :D

No that is not what the tweet said.Motorola Plans to Announce Ice Cream Sandwich Update Time Lines 6 Weeks After Google Releases It (Updated) - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
Droid-life talked to moto and it doesnt mean it will be updated within 6 weeks after ICS. You just failed to read the original tweet properly as did many other journalists.

Makes sense - 6 weeks would include holidays - and that's unpossible.

Besides - all this news does is confirm that ICS is going to be available for development, and that's of interest to some Gnex owners.

Nothing much else to see here, really.
